What do you mean by that? He can take the SAT or ACT every year. He has requested to take both every year because he enjoys it. I heard you should not take the SAT in 9th though.

How did you show it on the transcript? Did you just move the 8th grade stuff up to 9th? I guess he could just take the ACT in 8th incase it becomes 9th. Or maybe it doesn't matter how many years ago they took it. Maybe if you register for the test as an 8th grader the score is automatically purged. I think I like that option best, so he/I can change his mind about graduating early.

What is your son doing for math and science the last two years? I don't see any other courses to take other than going to college! And, yes, I am having to wait to start the AP courses until 9th. I hear that you can put Biology/Ap score 5 on the transcript and that is almost as good as AP Biology 5. I haven't posted my high school plans for feedback yet because I just wrote them yesterday and I am still trying to figure out all the testing stuff. I will never dual enroll in a community college, no worries there. ;) The dual enrollment would be at the college he wants to attend. All it says for requirements is that students are expected to take the most difficult classes offered at their school. 40% of applicants are accepted. I don't know how competitive that makes it. I am seriously reconsidering grade skipping now, but I don't even have a clue what to put in the last year.

I did leave out the final year because I am so used to being slammed for having an advanced kid. ;) The final year would be AP Chem or Phy and Calc. He is not interested in science or math and does not want to major in them. He really wants to go to Moody Bible Institute, but they may go out of business or make some major changes before then. I am shocked you don't think that those are high enough. I guess I live under a rock out here in the mountains because we only know 1 other kid that has ever taken Biology before 9th grade! :lol: What would you put for another year of math and science? I have him possibly taking 7 AP classes, 5 CLEPs and 10 dual enrollment classes (he would have to get approval to take that many). I thought that was outstanding. Am I wrong? That is what I am shooting for at the highest level. He of course may not achieve that. Am I way undershooting?

This is what I had always planned on doing, but I have heard that colleges are coming down hard on this practice. They want to see that homeschooled kids can handle a full course load. You make a good point about skipping 7th rather than 8th; however, in our state 7th is a mandatory testing year. I would hate for them to think I was trying to skip the test. I don't really think my letter of intent would matter. Meaning I don't think anyone would check with the school system when he goes to college. Maybe if I send in his test scores at the end of 7th and say that we grade skipped him to 8th, but here are his test scores if they want them, and that we will submit his 9th grade test scores at the end of this year too?

My son really wants to graduate early. He is going into 7th next year and will be finishing up one 8th grade course (R&S Grammar) and taking 4, 9th grade courses. I said if he does well in all of them and can keep up with the course load, he can graduate a year early. Now I am wondering exactly how to do that! It seems easiest to skip 8th grade. That messes with his talent search and his letter of intent grade level though. He will also have to take the Psat a year earlier and will be competing with older kids. I was wondering if there is a way to grade skip the last year, like an early graduation, early acceptance to college? That way he could preserve his real grade level and be compared to his peers and not older kids. If that is possible, the one thing that really concerns me is not having enough credits on his official high school transcript. I am not counting the four high school classes he is taking next year towards his graduation requirement. (one will hopefully be a CLEP though) So if his 8th grade year is 5 high school credits, would have to make those up if he gets some kind of early admission?? Thoughts?:bigear:

I see from the MUS website that I can switch Geom and Alg 2 if I want, but I am not convinced I need to. Our local co-op now requires kids to have Alg 2 before starting chem. Anyone BTDT that can assure me that the math was okay in Chem?

So funny this thread popped back up! I was just wondering yesterday when my daughter started the Epsilon level because she is just finishing it up now. She has done much better with it than my son! She really has had no problems other than dawdling and forgetting a couple multiplication facts. My son is in Algebra now and doing great. I am an even bigger fan of MUS now!

How do the levels of MUS and Apologia Science work? I was planning on: Biology with CLEP Alg 1 Chemistry Geometry AP Biology with AP test Alg 2 Physics Pre Calc Someone told me that I would have to switch Geometry and Alg 2 and someone else told me that in reality you had to have Alg 2 for Chemistry if using MUS, even though the Apologia website does not say that. What do you think? Can I even switch MUS Geometry and Alg II? :bigear: Thanks

How does this work? The advanced Apologia Biology requires chemistry as a prerequisite. My son is just finishing up Apologia Physical Science. How could I get him on track for taking the CLEP in Biology next year? If he listened to the DIVE Integrated Chemistry lectures, or Kahn academy chemistry lectures, could he do Apologia Regular and Advanced Biology? Even do DIVE Biology?

I read somewhere that with a little extra studying someone went on to pass the CLEP after taking Apologia Biology. Could that be the normal 9th grade course or do you think it is the Advanced Biology?

Thanks for all the hugs. I have always consoled myself with the thought that at least I would never develop hypertension or diabetes. I am very shocked to find this out.:sad: The paleo diet looks like a good pre-diabetic diet. I can't imagine eating that way. :001_huh: I eat lots of rice, corn and potatoes. I will try adding more nuts back into my diet to see if that helps.

I have had hypoglycemia and orthostatic blood pressure (low blood pressure that drops dangerously low upon standing) my whole life. It has greatly interfered with my life. I have been to many doctors, including endocrinologists and they all tell me that there is nothing to be done and it is "healthy". I recently have been having problems with reactive hypoglycemia (meaning I am fine, I eat, then my sugars drop.) I have been trying to decide what to do, as my doctor retired a few months ago. I was researching on the web and found that 60% of people with this type go on to develop type 2 diabetes, even if they are thin. I am very thin. I have numerous food allergies and my one joy in food is sugar. I am guessing I should pretty much never eat sugar again??? How serious should I take this? Thanks for any input.

I am sorry to disagree with you, but I think an average K'er could follow an Aesops. If you come up with an intervention strategy and it does not work, I would seek help. I would turn off the TV and only allow books on tape, for now. I would read books aloud, having them close their eyes and try to picture the imagery. I would read basic stories with basic comprehension questions. A Children's Bible with questions is a great place to start if you are Christian. :grouphug:

Do you mean your 8 year olds can't tell you what happened in an Aesop's fable after you read it to them? And one of them was labeled as gifted? If so, I would have to guess there is a learning disability or processing disorder going on. I think you should have them evaluated. Do they understand normal books for their age when read to them or when reading them? :grouphug:

I had something very similar happen when I was planning a home birth, but fell down and had a placental abruption so called 911. I was forced into doing many things to my baby that I would not have done otherwise. The nurse kept telling me that if I did not do x, y or z, it would be neglect. She also kept telling me that something was very wrong with my baby, that he had to be taken to NICU for X, Y and Z. She would take him for hours and refuse to return him. Every time I talked to his ped., he told me nothing was wrong and there was nothing noted in his chart. It became obvious that the nurse was trying to get me to react badly so she could report me. I believe every word of the article.
