  1. I know this is a little late, but check to see if there is a option in Settings menu to deselect/turn off "Data" or "Mobile Network" if you are looking to disable the internet. We've got a variety of prepaid cell phones and they've all had some sort of option like that. If you have yet to get a phone, and are interested in TracFones that work on Verizon, make sure the phone is CDMA or has a "C" at the end of the model not GSM or a "G" (those phones are AT&T/T-Mobile compatible and won't be what you want). I would also recommend Page Plus and Selectel (these pay-as-you-go companies run on Verizon towers too) and they have bring-your-own-device options so you can get a used/refurbished Verizon phone (even buy from Craigslist or Ebay etc) for cheap and use it on there. We've used both companies and have been happy. Cheaper than Tracfone and with better phone options. I would also recommend trying to get at least an Android 4.0 phone as older ones are pretty outdated now and many apps don't work. My kids don't have plans but they have phones and use them over wifi or play apps/watch videos in the car (that are already stored on their phones). Just a heads up, right now, Radio Shack as a special where if you buy a phone you get 6 months free Netflix, so check them out for options.
  2. I was concerned about that too, fads can quickly come and go... I think I'm going to give my kids the loom soon, so instead of waiting until Christmas they can practice now and then use it to make Christmas gifts for their friends. My girls have weaved using 2 pencils and made a few designs, but I think they are ready for more.
  3. The church hasn't changed, still the same old traditions and services since before this "cool" trend occurred and the young members just aren't there.
  4. I think the issues are more complex than what is mentioned in the article. Our church is of the pre-"wannabe cool" variety and yet it is missing young people. Our pastors are striving to figure out why/how to fix.
  5. Not a bumper sticker but one of my faves... "Who told you I was paranoid? Was it the government?!"
  6. Obviously this site won't be a guarantee but I have it bookmarked and like to check it every so often as I daydream, hoping for the planets to align... http://www.campingwo...entals/Specials $7.95/night...any takers?! I also like to dream about converting an RV to WVO to drive around the country for freeee smelling of french fries ;)
  7. I like to personalize practical items... like etch their names on glass storage containers, cake pans, etc. Or if you were to give a gift of pots & pans, include your son's favorite recipe/s-- maybe with a little note explaining a memory of him enjoying it. For a wedding gift, we were given a pan with the ingredients and a handwritten brownie recipe from DH's great aunt, and I always smile whenever I come across it.
  8. I was taught white/gray hair was dominant, all others are submissive. ba-dum bum.
  9. Taxes and fees are included in the price... amazing huh?! Well, except maybe any sales tax... but nothing like the complicated mess that is the monthly cell phone bill.
  10. There are 2 different types of cell phone carriers... GSM (At&t, T-Mo) and CDMA (Verizon). If most people around you have Verizon phones, make sure you get a CDMA phone. Tracfone, Straight Talk, & Net 10 all sell both varieties so you have to read the fine print to be sure. I live in Verizon country, and we have a CDMA Tracfone for mostly just quick calls on the go. It is ugly and old but it works for our needs. I have the double minutes option and buying the $20 90-day card is plenty for our use, and any unused minutes rollover. Just know that cdma phones usually aren't as high-end as the gsm models. :( Another option is PagePlus, they work on Verizon and you can bring your own CDMA phone (so much nicer options-- hello ebay/craigslist). Minutes don't rollover but they have $10 100-min cards good for 120 days (w/ a $.50/mo service charge each month-- so really 80 minute cards). So that can be an extremely cheap option if you only make 20 1 minute calls a month. You can always add another card sooner if you run out (but no rollover/stacking). They also have the $80 2000 minute year cards, my husband does this and it works great for him. Also, my girls have unactivated cell phones with texting apps, so they can text for free over wi-fi. So this might even be an option if your husband has wireless at/near his work. I do believe TracFone includes roaming, not likely with the others though.
  11. I agree, but I really doubt she was disruptive 100% of the time, which is what the numbers reveal. Even if she received 2/25, I would think the teacher would have a stronger defense.
  12. The way I read it, she was present and participated at each class, albeit in a questionable manner at times, but was not given ANY participation credit.
  13. I haven't read anywhere whether she had an opportunity to retake the class in order to continue in the program... Maybe this lawsuit just reinforces that classes must have an established grading rubric to determine any points that go toward figuring grades. Both to protect the professor and the student.
  14. Judge decides quickly after request to dismiss Lehigh lawsuit over C+ grade The ZERO is still bothering me. Maybe she is a spoiled brat, but that isn't a reason to give a zero and prevent her from continuing on in the program.
  15. Another article... Lehigh University professor, sued by student over poor grade, insists C-plus is appropriate At the time, the now Lehigh professor wasn't a professor but a student-teacher. Megan supposedly attended and participated in every class and received 0/25 participation points. Northampton County judge rules there's enough evidence in suit over student's poor grade to move forward
  16. That stuck out to me as well, even with the profanity and crying... a zero?? I would understand an F but ZERO would be not attending class at all.
  17. Wow, that was helpful of them! The hospital I delivered at was very pro-nursing and brand new (less than a yr old when I delivered) so maybe that had something to do with it. No big deal-- I didn't even think of the diaper bag thing until months later:lol:
  18. Yeah, I think it's a new thing, when I had my twins in Feb I wasn't given any samples from the hospital. And not even one of those cheapie diaper bags. :tongue_smilie: I was definitely nervous leaving without some sort of emergency stash-- esp with twins and all.
  19. I only used formula for a short time after I quit pumping at 7 months with my now 2 yr old so I'm no help on how to deal with tiny new babes. But my guy had no problems with whatever I gave him so we opted for the generic brands. storebrandformula.com was informational for me-- comparing the name brands with store brands. I ended up just getting whatever was on sale since the generics are all the same... Walmart, Sams, Target, Kmart, Walgreens, CVS, BabiesRUs, etc "Perrigo Nutritionals offers 50 different infant nutrition formulas to 47 retailers, in more than 30,000 retail locations in the United States and around the world, as well as online at sites such as Diapers.com. While the offerings and store brand name vary by retailer, the formulations are manufactured to consistent quality standards for each category." National Brand Name..........PBM Formula Name Enfamil Premium® Infant.....Premium Enfamil® Gentlease®.........Gentle® Similac® Advance®...........Advantage® Similac Sensitive®.............Sensitivity® There are a few others too-- soy, organic, etc But read up on it yourself, I'm rusty:blushing:
  20. What about Zebedee? It goes along with the others, I think it would be fun for a boy or a girl. ;)
  21. Um, the perfect number is 2 girls, 2 boys-- well at least that's what everyone said when that was what we had. But then add another boy-- not one "perfect" comment. Add another boy & girl... "boy you've got your hands full"-- that is all anyone says. ever. sigh. :glare::glare::glare::tongue_smilie:
  22. Anyone ever watch Grounded for Life? We just rediscovered that show again and are enjoying it immensely-- 14 yo daughter with young parents dealing with major teenage drama while to raise her without repeating their same mistakes. Good reminder of what's to come.
  23. I have looser constraints on the bigger-sized mega/duplo blocks (much easier to avoid stepping on and less of a choke hazard)... could you allow those for starters?
  24. Yep, just dumped it all in one pan. There colors were a little wavy but it varied thru the cake, and I don't think it detracted from its beauty. I think individual layers would be too much work for what it's worth. I hope to marble one next month for next bday kiddo, the colors are so fun.:001_smile:
