  1. We buy ours at Trader Joes. I haven't noticed the price skyrocketing, but I'm not always observant about that kind of thing. :001_huh:
  2. My 6yo enjoyed reading it for fun and answering the questions, but she felt that it was mostly a review of stuff she already knew. I wouldn't buy them again, but it wasn't worth it to return them.
  3. I love pictures in front of the tree- even if they are taken in January. They are worth the wait.
  4. Like Tara, I prefer a narration that summarizes the key points. My dd has always been able to retell stories with great detail and use of precise wording from the book. I think it is valuable to discern the main point, which is sometimes a struggle for my dd.
  5. My kids enjoy the Singing Bible. It is just for pleasure though, not a part of our school.
  6. I'm not familiar with Librivox. My 4yo dd really likes her CD of the Francis stories.
  7. We added All About Spelling. So far we are enjoying it.
  8. My 7yo is transitioning to cursive easily, without having learned D'Nealian. When I worked in the ps I found all of the monkey tails to be distracting and make messy print even harder to read.
  9. I like chocolate almond milk, spiced cider, juice and water. The first two, I like hot or cold. I haven't tried Caffix, but the other coffee substitutes I've tried were pretty unacceptable.
  10. I agree about asking to talk with a manager. If the boots look like they are only lightly worn, you'll have a stronger case. I hope you can find replacements. I've noticed swimsuits popping up and winter items being put on clearance.
  11. You can do it! We haven't had cable for 7 years. Sometimes dh likes to sit and watch TV or a movie together, so we have Netflix.
  12. We had a great first day back, even with snow on the ground and two sick kids.
  13. My girls play with them every now and then. We've never used them instructionally.
  14. I like the idea above of an I-Spy type mural or picture with a list of what to look for. I also like mobiles that move slightly or reflect rainbows of light. Some are quite mesmerizing and calming. I also like the idea of colored walls, but not yellow or orange.
  15. When I was in high school and college, I used to have nightmares almost every night. I used to watch a lot of TV at that time, and I've wondered if that somehow caused it. Now, being hot or taking antihistamines (like Benadryl) cause me to have nightmares. It is rare though. I rarely watch TV now. Maybe it is related.
  16. I've wondered this same thing. At this point, I have accepted all invitations. There are some friends of old friends that I don't feel the need to connect with though. I'm eager to hear what others think.
  17. :iagree: I was going to suggest green salad too. I like chili on salad.
  18. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I have a question. Where can you buy just the teacher manual? I didn't see that option on the website. I love the way MFWK blends Bible, character and science. I'm just not interested in the phonics aspect.
  19. At the rate I'm going, it'll be a while for me. Forty four seems kind of random.
  20. :lurk5: Good question. I've never read these all the way through. Maybe I can follow your 9yo's course of study. :D
  21. We are happy with our Radian. We currently have it latched in to our Toyota Sienna. The car seat tech said it could also be buckled in by twisting the seat belt stalk 1 or 2 times. He had a cheat sheet of how many times different brands of cars could safely have the seatbelt stalk twisted. I'll have to double check that advice when dd is 40 pounds. FWIW, dd finds the Radian more comfortable than the three Britaxes we have or have had.
  22. I bought the bird pages and some type of nature through the seasons set. I thought they were well done. I think a few of the graphics may have been pixelated, but overall I was very impressed. My dd, who is now 7, doesn't like to write. The pages have sat unused for over a year, but maybe someday...
