  1. I grew up in a house with a fireplace. We never had the smoke smell unless we actually had a fire going. We hardly ever remembered to close the damper. Our only issue with not closing it was getting birds inside. ;) I'd just keep it open.
  2. We are about to put in a product called Coretec (or maybe it's Coretek). It's a waterproof, vinyl laminate. It comes in planks like wood floors. I think it's really pretty. They have all sorts of different wood like looks. For us, it's the best option. We don't want wood(it's expensive and this flooring is going in entry/laundry/kitchen/bathroom), laminate scares me because you aren't supposed to get it wet, and I don't want tile because grout scares me. We need something durable and with the ability to be mopped with soap and water.
  3. I would make sure he knows his multiplication tables really well. That is usually one of the big problems with long division. It is revisited in 4 and 5 but more to add in how to divide decimals ect. We are almost done with 5B and decimal division was introduced in 5A and the decimal portion was the only part taught. They were expected to have the whole number part mastered. But really once dd was a lot more solid in her multiplication facts long division was so much easier. We used Times Attack for fun practice.
  4. I used Ordinary Parents Guide with DD. We tried 100 Easy Lessons but she hated it. For DS, this year, we are using Ordinary Parents Guide and Abeka's little books for K4 and K5. They actually correspond pretty well if you start with the K4 books and work your way up. Each child is different so you might have to try a few different things or just adapt what you have to make it work.
  5. If it was something from MIL I wasn't fond of, it would get put in our "Saturday" pile for DH to do with the kids. His mom, his chore.
  6. I was looking for this the other day too. I've decided there must not be one. I decided to jump ship on Singapore and ordered AoPS pre algebra but also have MM6 if the AoPS is too difficult. I thought about buying the teacher guide but couldn't stomach the price tag.
  7. Hmm tough choices. I looked at AOPS and I'm not sure she's quite ready for it. Maybe we'll just stick with Singapore again and switch to AoPS when she's done with that. She is very good at math but is not quite 9 yet so there is no rush.
  8. Thanks. I do already have MM 1-6 so maybe I can jump to 6 there. I'll look at the other suggestions. I'm not a fan of Saxon, mostly because of the weird way they number their levels. Maybe I just need to get over that. ;)
  9. We are finishing up Singapore Standards 5b and I'm wondering where to go from here. I seem to remember some people skipped Singapore 6 and moved on to pre-algebra or maybe even right to Algebra. I can't find the old threads I'm thinking of. Help! I have no idea where to go from here. Thanks
  10. I'd choose Aldi. They pay well and you get holidays off.
  11. Try Christian homeschool hub on Facebook. They have a website too. The site wasn't very active when I visited a couple of years ago but there have been a lot of posts on Facebook lately.
  12. The man did come over and ask if something was wrong. You immediately started blaming him. I'd get defensive too. It would never occur to me to blame someone. I would have just said that the back window shattered. I hope things get better for you
  13. We're almost finished with it. My kids love having an experiment every lesson. I love that the lessons are short and don't require much prep time at all. It's also easy to understand at all levels. It can be used with multiple ages.
  14. I was also thinking of Veritas Press. We use the self paced but you could also do it with their lesson plans instead.
  15. My pet peave is "en suite". Here we call if a master bath. I also don't like that everything has to be contemporary. And a lot of times they ruin a beautiful fireplace.
  16. The only African Americans I know are white. All of the black people I know have been in this country longer than my family so they are just Americans.
  17. We are taking 3 weeks off for Christmas. We will also take a month off or so on the summer.
  18. Tennessee! It's where we'd go if we were to move. I daydream about it all the time. There are beautiful homesites on tnland.com right in the mountains near Chattanooga.
  19. I forgot to order too. We'll need to start in March I think. Oh well.
  20. Have your DH wear a mask and wash hands well. That should keep the germs away from your FIL.
  21. Eh, my ds still has his for bedtime at almost 4.5. It's his security object. He didn't get a pacifier until he was 18 months old and wouldn't sleep. He knows he isn't allowed to take it out of his bed. I figure his 7.5 yr old sister has her thumb why should he not be allowed to have his pacifier.
  22. Congrats! Did her teammates win 2nd and 3rd?
