  2. Plans so far: Sonlight E VP self paced modern Apologia Botany Lifepac Algebra Rod and Staff English 6th grade Writing with Skill 1 Might have to outsource art since I'm SUPER inconsistent with doing it. Continue swimming lessons and ballet. Hoffman Academy piano.
  3. I think we quit during chapter 3. It was more my issue than DD's though. I just couldn't take the wordiness of it. I might have her go back to it and do the end of chapter questions to see if she can do the problems as easily as she's doing the Math Mammoth problems.
  4. Do these kids belong to the neighbors? I might go talk to the neighbors and let them know what happened. If the kids belong to them they'll be able to deal with it. If not, then at least they'd be aware to keep vigilant also. I imagine it would be a liability issue as well as a safety issue for you.
  5. When I was i school 20 years ago, it was pretty grueling. It was very hard to fit in all the classes and things in 4 years (for a BSN). That was when I was 18-22! It would have been very hard doing this while having a family and working outside the home. The hardest semester was the last one when we did our practicum. It was an unpaid nurse shadow experience. We followed the nurse's schedule. I worked double shifts a few times because I was following her schedule. It was really hard to have any sort of life outside of school. It was difficult but if you know what you're getting into before hand you'll be in a better mind set than if you had no idea. As far as working after graduation, I did work nights BUT I only did 8 hour shifts. I did this for only 1 year as it was too much for me. I had to work nights because I entered a specialty field (labor and delivery) and that was the only way to break into that field. I imagine if you worked on a general med/surg floor it would be easier to get 1st or 2nd shift vs. night shift. I would highly recommend doing your time in a med/surg floor for a year of so just to get the experience. From there you can switch to almost anything. I worked in a nursing home and hospice which was much more flexible but the med surg experience would have been more helpful than the L & D experience. I would see how just being a regular nurse goes before making plans to be a nurse practitioner though. You might find it to be too much or just enough and not be able to or want to go further in your education.
  6. We started AoPS pre-algebra and ended up switching to Math Mammoth 7 instead. It was just way too wordy for me to try to teach. I think we got through 3 chapters in about 6 weeks, before we switched. We went right from Singapore 5 to Pre-Algebra. Probably could have even skipped part of SIngapore 5 honestly.
  7. States require testing at schools IF they want money. If schools didn't want any state/federal money testing is not required.
  8. Have you considered just skipping grade 6? That's what we did and are currently using MM7 (pre-algebra). It's working out really well.
  9. My kids were fine without using strollers there at 5. Maybe wait until the youngest is 5 and then go. Your oldest will still really enjoy it at 11.
  10. I think I might watch it on mute just to see if something happens. I won't be listening though.
  11. We had that when I was in college. I think they usually checked halfway through and at the end of each semester. Our suite usually won first prize-- ice cream. :) ETA: I think they just did it in the freshman and sophomore dorms. I don't remember it beyond those years.
  12. We like everything except AoPS Pre Algebra. It was just way too wordy and not easy to follow. We switched to MM7 and are LOVING it.
  13. I watched a different show about this last week (on A&E I think) That show leaned toward the family having nothing to do with it. They stated that the things released to the press were all made up. For example: no footprints in the snow. There was no snow except on the grass- the paths were clear so there was no snow to leave foot prints. The show also showed evidence of skin cells from an unknown person found on JonBenet's pants. There was also a blood smear down the wall by the window that the intruder came in that was ignored by the police. Basically the police didn't like how the family was acting so they jumped to conclusions and didn't collect evidence in the house. I am curious about the pineapple thing mentioned above. What's the big deal if she had pineapple? Was she allergic? The show I watched said the Ramseys were at a party and Jonbenet was asleep when they arrived home and was put directly to bed. There was nothing discussed about eating anything.
  14. I've heard of this happening. When it does they have to close down the ride to clean up the mess. It's a common tale on the disboards.
  15. I only shop at Aldi and Sam's. Sam's usually sends out a flyer with the monthly specials. I try to shop using those specials. I buy yogurt smoothies, baby bell cheese, toilet paper, strawberries, frozen chicken breasts, apples, ground beef the most. The milk and eggs are usually cheaper at Aldi and NEVER buy soda/pop there. We also prefer their cat litter brand, powdered laundry detergent and can often get a good deal on furnace filters. By us, the gas isn't really any cheaper than any other gas station. The other day I bought some Eddie Bauer long sleeve t-shirts also. They were just $10 each.
  16. I was thinking maybe it was the Narnia books too. I think those are tough to sit through at younger ages. Maybe try something a bit easier like Boxcar Children. I haven't read the BFG (gasp) so have no idea what it's about to give advice on that one. Although, I also told my kids that we have to read it first before seeing the movie.
  17. We started AoPS in March after dd (8 at the time) finished Singapore 5. She isn't having any problems with it. The lessons are a bit long because they are pretty wordy, but the concepts are easy to understand. I don't think it will take us more than a year to complete.
  18. I ordered the Kindle edition but am now 2nd guessing that decision. I have a month to change my mind I guess.
  19. I'm watching. Watched Diving and Gymnastics this weekend. Love the Olympics!!
  20. I'm sorry. I hate Windows 10. I got a new laptop last month and I hate it! I hope our desktop doesn't automatically update now. ugh
  21. Being late drives me bananas but I would never arrive 25 minutes early. I tend to arrive up to 5 minutes early. I figure if an event starts at a certain time that whatever thing is happening should start at that time not 15, 30, or even 45 minutes late.
  22. Shark. It's excellent. We had a Dyson before and it worked well for a few months and then didn't I've never tried a Miele.
  23. We've read the first book. It is definitely a supplement. It goes pretty fast through history. You'd definitely need some other books to flesh it out. We did like it and will use the 2nd book with American history next year. It's a cute story about 2 kids that find a book that has them time travel. One boy is a Christian in a time where it is illegal (the future) to be so. The other boy is not. The whole journey the first boy is trying to get the 2nd boy to believe. It includes talking animals as guides through time.
  24. I noticed a couple in 5B. We're skipping 6 so don't know about that.
