  1. We liked Elemental Science. We completed Physics for the Grammar stage and have Biology for the Logic stage to go into after we finish the program we are currently in. At the suggestion of so many on this board, we are using The Elements by McHenry. DS11 *loves* it. He likes it so much we are moving into the 2nd of the series, Carbon Chemistry. :hurray: After these, we plan to go back to Elemental Science. Subject to change with the reviews on this board, of course.
  2. I ordered it, looked at it and liked what I read, but we returned it. We have done a lot of science and it was not enough for ds11. For someone just starting out or younger children, I believe it is a *great* program. I wish it would have worked for us.
  3. We have it, but it has not worked well for us. It is currently in the pile of things going to our used curriculum sale. Know that ds11 *hates* writing, so it has been an area that we have slowly progressed in. He is doing better, but if it is between a game to write a story and almost anything else, that other game wins hands down. Especially in our house where we regularly play Catan, Domion and all of the "10 Days" games. BTW, we bought ours at Rainbow Resource. It is a few dollars cheaper. If you want to try the game for even cheaper and don't mind paying postage, just make me an offer. ;)
  4. :iagree: We wear and love our NF jackets here. I also shop Sierra Trading Post a lot. They have a lot of great coupons out too.
  5. Going against most others, I did buy the book but sold it. I read it, tabbed it, bought all kinds of 'special' things that we did not have in our house normally, did the plan and decided it was not for me. I did not want to cook different meals and my dh was not impressed with what the recipes offered. For us, eating whole foods is enough. We do eat mostly organic and all of our meats are purchased locally. For us, this works. I do think it is a plan that can work for a lot of people and have friends who are eating that way successfully. For me though, it was not a good fit. Many rave on the 'Muffin in a Mug' recipes, but I did not like them. I don't like Almond milk, Almond Flour or Stevia (drops or other). I got tired of Joseph's Pita's and the China Dahl was terrible to me, though a friend liked it when she added Mozzarella cheese. It is a plan that can work, but you need to be open to new tastes and *not* be a picky eater like I am. Good luck!
  6. :bigear: Bumping. We are going to be starting ToG, so I am listening in.
  7. Great thread! And great ideas too. Thanks. I will add that we have also bought our older dd's ornaments from Etsy.
  8. I returned ours, unfortunately. I *really* liked it, but for my ds11 it was too easy. We have completely a lot of science programs and this was too repetitive for us. I believe it is a great program for the younger students and a wonderful introduction to many types of science. For us though, it was not a good fit.
  9. I shop there a lot and have been through this before, just not with Target. I immediately requested new cards for our debit and cc when I heard about this. Scary stuff. :leaving:
  10. Update on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/living/2013/12/19/newday-romans-target-credit-and-debit-cards-hacked.cnn.html They are already seeing cards being used -sold underground- and now believe they are from the Middle East.
  11. We also have and *love* USAA. I don't know how accurate this information is, but it was posted by another USAA member on their site regarding the Target security breach: by tryoungblood 7 Hours Ago A word of caution to USAA and it's members... Although I have the highest confidence in USAA and it's fraud team, as a Information Security professional in the banking industry, I strongly advise you to follow the points made by USAA and keep tabs on your statements. Despite the fact that USAA has recommended to not cancel your debit/credit cards, you are still at risk of fraud. The "hackers" that have stolen the credit card data have sorted the available information for sale by location and ZIP code. Again, the fraudsters are selling the breached information identifiable by location of the fraud. This means that it's possible for fraudulent activity to occur on your account and NOT be detected by the fraud team at USAA. I don't wish to employ scare tactics, but fraud cannot be caught with 100% accuracy. I have 100% faith in USAA and it's team, but please take extra precaution to safeguard the shared assets of yourself and USAA.
  12. I use and *love* the Addi Turbos. I buy them at our local knitting store, but Amazon also sells them.
  13. I second "Oliver". And to add, he is adorable!
  14. Another Dominion vote! We love this game, and have the expansions.
  15. This. :) I did this for our parents and they *loved* it. Of course, I still have to show my mother how to get the pictures we email onto the flash drive to add more, but that is ok. ;) Another idea, any local. In our small town we have an Olive Oil company with the most heavenly flavored oils...... they are wonderful. I shipped an assortment to my father (lives 12 hours away) and he really, really liked them. The next time he was in town he visited the Olive Oil Company and shipped more to his house!
  16. I have not, but would try Wal-Mart, SAMS club or Costco if you have either of them close to you with a photo department. I ordered ours from Costco this year and had them in about 1 week being shipped. I hope you find a solution. Merry Christmas!
  17. You have just inspired me to pick up my knitting. Thanks! I was learning to knit last year, but my teacher/friend moved away. I have a knitting store in town who offers classes, so time to get back to it. Well, for that reason and the fact that there are 3 bags with unfinished projects. . It is also a great cold weather project that relaxes me (until I mess up!!)
  18. Not for a scout, but I did purchase this hammock for dd21 to take camping and she is very happy with it. I found it on Overstock.com for $39.14, but there are always coupon codes on Retail Me Not to bring the price down further.
  19. This is us! We give 3 gifts (representing the 3 wise men), stockings and 1 Santa gift. Like OhElizabeth with the bolded, we do: Something they want, Something they need, Something we want them to have. Even my 22 & 23 dd's still enjoy this. We (ok,I) do try to keep the dollar amounts spent close to equal, but it isn't always. DD23 reminded me this year that it is ok and Christmas is really for the children (aka, ds11) so not to stress. :crying: My kids are growing up.....
  20. Finishing today for my extended family, but I have been finished for my family (dh & kids) for weeks. I already mailed MIL's gift, have bought for my mother & her husband, but have had trouble deciding on anything for my father & stepmother. I finally decided on a gift from our local Olive Oil Company. They will even ship it for me. All of the other gifts are wrapped and under the tree. This week, the baking begins.
  21. :iagree: Same in our house. DS11 enjoys the videos with Dwane and *wants* to work on Latin.
  22. At Costco, there is a $40 off instant rebate bringing the Blendtec down to $359 until 12/2. I bought it and have been very happy with it. I will add that after a few uses the motor stopped, but I called Blendtec and they sent me a brand new one without any hassle or problem. They told me it should not have happened, did not try to trouble shoot it, but just send a brand new machine. These have an 8 year warranty, which is great.
  23. :iagree: This is what my picky, sensory son uses as well. He also hates anything 'minty', but will use this without any problems.
