  1. We used it for 3 years. I started life when my ds was 6. I second the recommendation for videos and books. I like the curriculum but I thought it was lacking pictures for the concepts. I printed out the entire student book in black and white on my printer. Then I took it to Office Depot and had it bound. The TM was on my computer only. The IPad sounds like the least expensive way to go. Just another excuse for me to get one! :D
  2. I waited to watch it until last week because I thought I wouldn't like it. I love it. It is one of the first shows I watch when I can sit down to watch tv. I think the characters are complex.
  3. My dd refused to do RS A. She thought it was moving too slow so I bumped her up to RS B (already had). She liked it much better. It went faster and the games were more engaging. She is still not a big fan of the games but she tolerates them.
  4. My dd does MM and RS. She just told me on Friday that she would rather go with RS only for now. I think the worksheets in MM are not very exciting right now since she is doing a review. She doesn't like review or to tell me how she got the answer so I think RS is the way to go for now. We spend 20min at most on math per day. My ds does TT (for review and fun), Daily Practice by Evan-Moor, and RS. I am looking for something else to add. I think I may have found it this afternoon. It is Famous Problems and Their Mathmeticians. My ds learns concepts better in story format and he loves history. My ds spends about an hour on math. Half of that though is playing RS games so it doesn't seem that long to him.
  5. I think I may have figured it out! At least I hope so! Your post sounded like something I had seen before but put it to the back of my brain until my kids were older. Could it be Learn and Do series by Kym Wright? She has science books that are $19.95 and it can include her digital photography unit study. The only other one I can think of is Amanda Bennett photography unit study. HTH
  6. Check out this website for some ideas. I have the cooking art class scheduled for our next co-op.
  7. We don't do always do a lesson a day. If my ds gets it we move at a faster pace. If he doesn't we may spend days on it until he does. As long as I can see we are moving forward it doesn't matter how long it takes us to do the book. This week we are only playing multiplication games from the math games book. Since he is the oldest I play the games with him. We usually play games for 20 to 30 min. My dd is doing a combo btwn Math Mammoth and RS B. So her math lesson varies. Her math is usually over when I see her eyes start to glaze over.
  8. My step mom and my dad get mistaken for mother and son a lot. They are only 3 years apart. It gets really embarrasing when ladies ask my step mom for her son's phone number! Once my car broke down on the side of the street when I was pregnant. I walked to a house and asked to use the phone. When my dh got there they asked him why he would get such a young girl pregnant. Then they asked me if I wanted to call my family to come and pick me up. I giggled and said we are only 3 years apart and I am not as young as I seem. I was 28 at the time! My dh and I had a good laugh over that one!
  9. We are taking a week off of regular activites. The kids will work on their projects for international fair. I will work on baking and starting my christmas cookie dough.
  10. I wait until Michael's cardstock is buy 1 get 1 free. I get 2 packages for the price of one. I only have do to that a couple times a year. My kids are hard on lapbooks so cardstock is the only thing I can use.
  11. What's for lunch today? We had bean and rice burritos. I was busy making muffins, sausage roll, and cookie dough for dinner so it was a quick and easy lunch. How was your weekend? Sat--The family walked 2 miles with friends to support JDRF. It was good to see lots of people come out and support it. My mom and dad got into town and had lunch with them. Sun--My dh and I ran the 5K Lemon Run to help Alex's Lemonade Stand. They help fight childhood cancer. I ran my best time yet! What have you been dreaming about the possibilities of lately? I dream of the cleaning and organizing fairy dropping by my house. Or winning the lottery to hire a full time maid! :tongue_smilie: What movie did you see this weekend?
  12. I consider that a success! He is eating healthy and he called his mom and asked for cooking advice!! :D
  13. It took weeks to make my own plan for history this year. About a week into I knew it was not going to work. I had to find something fast. I ended up going with The Complete Book of U.S. History for american history. It is a lot better than I thought it was going to be. There are 2-4 pages of reading then suggested activites at the end. I usually have my ds read the info then we get together to discuss what he read and start the activity. My ds doesn't like to write at all so I modify the curriculum that we use to accomidate that. He thinks the activites at the end of the book are fun. Even if he has to draw a poster. The other nice thing is that I can add supplimental stuff to this program if a rabbit trail emerges. Next round of history we will get into american history more indepth.
  14. They may provide the phone service but that doesn't mean they know how to fix phones. It would be the same thing to ask your internet service provider to fix your computer. They would probably have no idea how to do it. It is good they gave you a loner phone. I would also ask for some sort of credit on your bill.
  15. I just bought the Globetrotting with Cinderella also. I have looked at it up to chapter 4. We are going to use it as a presentation at our co-ops geography fair. So I looked through it to see what I need to change to make it into a presentation. I liked how you read the story, then studied the country ,and then went back to the story to notice any cultural differences. I LOVE The Paperbag Princess!
  16. We have manditory 2hr quiet time here. The kids have their own seperate spaces. Quiet time is the time between mommy going to work (at home) and daddy coming home. On my days off it is my alone time. They both really enjoy their own time. My dd spends time on her craft projects and my ds spends time reading and sometimes listening to a book on CD. I think it is good to teach them to have some alone time, gather their thoughts, and do what they want to do. I am the only parent I know that does it IRL.
  17. I don't have 20 but here are some things on my list: Greek Alphabet Code Cracker Mythmatical Battles Norse/Egyptian Dbl Dck St Kids of Catan Game Numbers League Card Game
  18. Check out a couple of episodes of CNN Student News. It is geared toward HS students but my ds 9 watches and loves it. It covers the news but doesn't include any of the horrific scenes you sometimes see on the news. It also takes time to give background info when needed. The host says some cheesy stuff sometimes but my kids think he is funny! They run 10min episodes M-F during the school year. During the summer they have 10min weekly episodes. There are maps and discussion guides posted on the website usually the day before the episode airs.
  19. I don't think everyone should homeschool. I think if someone really wanted to do something they would make the changes in their lives to make it happen.
  20. My ds is a hands on kind of guy. I bought RS when I started homeschooling him. It ended up being a really good fit so I saved it for my dd. She doesn't like it at all unless she thinks she is getting a worksheet. I bought Math Mammoth and switch between the two curriculums. We tried Singapore Math but there were not enough worksheets for her and to many books for me to juggle.
  21. I am starting out my dd in American History this year and will start the STOW rotation over again next year with both kids. I am using a few different things. Adventures in America -- The crafts are easy to put together. They are easy enough for my dd to be able to do them on her own with no trouble. I have been supplimenting the curriculum with more books and taken out the geography portion. With this curriculum we are taking plenty of rabbit trails. The Indian Book --Good book with a really bad name! It was recommended by Guest Hollow American History. I bought it from Amazon.com used at a good price. This books talks about each tribe and how they live. The food they eat, the type of house they had, their customs, legend or stories from the tribe, and a where are they today section. If your kids are the hands on crafty type you could get some Evan-Moor history pockets. You Choose Book series has been a big hit in our house. We read them aloud. We each get a turn to pick out what happens. They are very informative and have lots of pictures.
  22. I liked the redesigned SOTW AG guides for the younger years. I was not impressed with STOW 3. Luckily my ds is older and doesn't really do much of the activities. I hope it is revamped by the time my crafty child starts STOW 3.
  23. I signed up for IXL. It was bleh. The problem I had is when I cxld it. They still kept charging me for it. It took months to get that taken care of. MHO skip it!
