  1. Hi All, 15yo son is almost finished with TT Algebra 1 and it is the version that doesn't have the automated grading feature. I'm getting ready to order Algebra 2 and since the answers are input into the program and graded, I'm wondering how necessary the student text is. Thoughts? Thanks! Amy
  2. Our son (age 14) has really enjoyed the the triology and we saw the movie together as a family. I checked out the books before he read them and found them well-written and attention-grabbing. They also provoked some interesting discussions in our home.
  3. My son aged 14yo just finished WP Quest for Royal and Revolution. He really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I was pleased that the older levels require a little less hands-on from Mom, since I'm training him to be more independent at this age. Amy
  4. Hello, Somehow my Week 2 from the guide is missing and I was wondering if anyone has this curriculum, could you possibly scan and email me a Week 2? I would really appreciate it! Thanks! Amy Kagey amycats3@bex.net
  5. I would also love a code too, please!
  6. Thanks! I looked at that list. I decided to come up with my own list of "modern classics" that I though would appeal to a 14yo boy. So far, I have: Call It Courage, Holes, Flowers for Algernon, Lord of the Flies, Summer of the Monkeys, and The Outsiders. Obviously, they won't coordinate historically with the Notgrass. I'll probably dig up some worksheets/guides online for each of the books.
  7. I'm considering Notgrass America the Beautiful for the fall for my son who will be turning 14 and beginning 8th grade. I'm very impressed with it, except for the literature selections. They would definitely not be challenging for him and besides, he's already read most of them. So, I'm wondering if I should just substitute my own assigned literature selections of historical fiction and classics. It doesn't appear that this would really affect the usage of the Notgrass program. Any thoughts?
  8. Hi, I seem to have lost Wek 4 from our guide and wondered if someone could please scan their Week 4 and send it me please? Thanks in advance for any help! Amy amycats3@bex.net
  9. I do feel really bad for you too but I'm leaning towards agreeing with the last two posts. God helps those who help themselves, etc....I would do just about anything if it meant the difference between my kids eating and or not.
  10. I would love something like this. I've spent a lot of time looking for a CD with something like the history of music with selections to listen to. Amy
  11. Thanks for the bumps! He spells very well and competes in our local homeschool spelling bee each year. He also reads voraciously in his free time so has a very good vocabulary, though I'm guessing that WP and LL may also incorporate some vocabulary. I'm looking back over this and thinking that between WP and LL, he's going to be doing a lot of assigned reading. I'll have to think about the logic or critical thinking.
  12. So I'm trying to plan for my son's 7th grade year in the fall. Looking for feedback/suggestions. Math: Finish TT Pre-Algebra & go into TT Algebra 1 Literature/Writing: Looking at Lightning Lit 7. I like the reading selections and he has previously only read Tom Sawyer from the list. He had IEW TWSS through our co-op this past year and has done fine. Science: He will take Apologia Exploring Creation with Physical Science in the fall with our co-op. We've done Sonlight science/living books-type science in the past, he has devoured Hakim's Story of Science books and we will be doing some of Apologia's General Science this spring & summer to prepare him for the co-op science. History: WinterPromise Quest for Royals & Revolutionaries..We aren't on the WTM rotation and this program looks like it will cover some portions of history that we have only touched on briefly. Spanish: He has picked this as his foreign language requirement. I've looked into Spanish classes for him but can't find anything suitable. (Mom is somewhat fluent in French & know very rudimentary Spanish. I'd prefer to not have to re-learn it along with him.) He also takes a weekly art class through co-op. Mainly I'm trying to get my plans spelled out here but am open to suggestions! Amy
  13. I noticed that Calvert has changed their Spelling CDs to a web-based program. I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the 3rd grade words? Thanks! Amy
  14. Hi All, I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan and we use ING Direct to keep our emergency fund. If anyone is thinking of opening an ING account with a deposit of $250 or more (maybe a good place for any tax refund money?), please send me your name and email address so I can send you a referral. You'll get an extra $25 for being referred and I'll get a bonus, too. Amy Kagey amycats3@bex.net
  15. Hi, I just purchased a WinterPromise 2008 edition of Our American Story 2. My kids are 10 and 12. The 10yo is a late reader and the the 12yo reads/comprehends at an adult level. My plan is to read the DK encyclopedia spine and the history selections with them. I was planning to read-aloud the adventure books as they are too hard for the 10yo and too easy or have already been read for the 12yo. I would like to assign some independant reading for the 12yo. For example, as we are reading about slavery and the Undergound Railroad, he has been reading Frederick Douglass' autobiography and answering comprehension questions from the internet. I'm not sure if I like cming up with my own selections as that is what I was trying to accomplish to buying a manual instead of piecing it together myself. Any suggestions? Amy
  16. DK.com - Children's Encyclopedia of American History - DK Publishing
  17. Hi, I'm looking at WinterPromise's Quest for Royals & Revolution for my 12.5yo son. Does anyone have any experience with it they can share? He's a strong reader and I don't think he'd have any problems with the redaing selections. I like that there is a considerable amount of independant study which would give me more time with his younger sister who needs more "mom-intensive" time. Also, this time period is one that we have skimmed over and I think he could benefit from a more intensive study of it. Opinions welcome! Amy
  18. Hi, I seem to remember a website that had science and possibly history schedules posted online that were free to access. Does anybody know which one this is? Thanks! Amy
  19. Hi All, I'm getting ready to order TT Pre-Algebra and noticed that it said that the website mentioned that the CD's don't grade the student's work, like the previous levels did. Do the students still do the work on the computer and then the parent grades it yusing the answer key? Or is the work not done on the computer at all and the CD's are just the lectures? Thanks!
  20. Great suggestions...anybody else? I should clarify that the literture selection is read by my son, not read aloud by me. Thanks!
  21. I'm looking for scheduling advice for the fall (actually we'll be starting school officially in August.) Here's what we have: Ds (6th grade) Caesar's English TT6 Math Rosetta Stone French Assigned Literature Reading by me daily w/discussion History: listen to SOTW (with dd), discussion and additional books from library Science: Story of Science (he reads on his own daily) along with reading a Science Encyclopedia plus additional library books (this is done with dd) Dd (4th grade, delayed in reading) Primary Phonics workbooks Abeka Math History (w/ds) Science (w/ds) Daily reading practice DD has a French class on Wednesdays from 11:00am to noon, and both kids will attend a co-op on Tuesdays from 10:30-2:00. This will include an IEW writing class for DS with homework also, a Choir class for DD and a joint art class. DD has a lesson with a reading tutor on Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 and is also given an assignment to complete at home. Looking for suggestions how to break it down. I'm thinking science and history won't be happeneing every day. Thanks for reading this far! Amy
