  1. We both are oldest of two with kid sisters. My kidsis is 12 yrs younger n his is 6 yrs younger. I studied this in Psych 101 Birth Order Studies. We fight like cats n dogs but love eachother like kittens n puppies !
  2. Since I too went back to school at age 35 to be a Medical Assistant(couldnt get an MA job so work in hospital lab) life leads us where we know not! I tell my oldest girls to take basic courses at community college. You save ton of money on English Comp and you can transfer it to big or private colleges. On campus the friends you make will also be wondering on a specific career path. Network with them. I have 1 friend with 3 degrees. Albeit at local college but she paid outright for them and many courses never have to be taken again to keep the credits! Bio degree-at our hospital a bio degree does not qualify to work in our lab except for specimen processing. But you could in the future transfer that degree into a nursing one at certain schools. You could sub teach also. For music therapist-> have you thought of Occupational Therapist? My son is autistic and OTs are in high demand for children!!! fun, creativity, music and games etc. Best wishes on your future, Dawn
  3. I am trying to research literature studies for next year. I have looked into Great Books Academy but do not like the price. I really do need the help of a solid teacher manual and guides that are more self directed. Rainbow Resource has various publishers along with quality and prices. Would love to hear what other high schoolers are using. Thanks Dawn
  4. I gave my dd free creative license for art and am looking for help now writi g up the end of year script. We used minimal online i struction and a small sketch drawing book. She creatively painted her bedroom walls, drew design scene on her fingers, crafted cards, professional like painted other bedroom, and various drawings and one acrylic painting. Also did a field trip to art museum. So much different activities... Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Dd is grade 9 level art Thanks!!!
  5. My dd is only 6 and we are also at the beginning of all this though I knew around age 3 something was starting to go awry with her. I am wondering about meds as well. The poor thing has such sensory and attention issues that she had to begin homeschooling for her own sake and the school's OT eval lady agreed since the school refused accommodations for now. But it is darn near impossible. She wants to "school" But then wants to do her own thing when we sit down to a learning thing. Her private OT sometimes uses the headphones and it works well enough that when I get some money I am going to try it at home. Also weighted vests have helped and I thought they were barbaric in the beginning. Again we do not have them at home...yet. Venting is why I joined this forum, so Please Do! As feel better knowing others are going through similar experiences!:grouphug: My oldest was not formally Dx with ADHD and Bipolar until after she had a baby at 16. Lord knows the amount of pain and struggle she would have avoided if Dx early enough and put on proper meds then! She just graduated through NARHS and it was the best!
  6. Thank you, I thought it might be a bit much for all that. I would rather cut a bit and enjoy and just take the history credits. I may know of better Lit for Literature studies, for instance she loves Jane Austin...
  7. I am planning on using BF's Us/World History for High School, the newer 2 yr course and was looking for input from those who used it. We loved the Horse Study a few years ago. She loves to read so I thought we would go with BF again. NARHS says we have to do Everything to get the full credits which is 2 history and 2 literature. SO what am I getting myself into???
  8. Renee, Unfortunately I understand having to work. We are much poorer for it but I got a per diem job instead. Doesn't really pay the bills though. I do pray things work out the best for your family. It is hard these days for sure!
  9. Don't send him. Give him decompression time and maybe try unschooling with him. It may help. I only say this because I have had to pull my children out the few times I tried. I guess my children just don't fit well with public schools. When my oldest with ADHD would "flake out"(at age 12-13) I let the rope out on her and had her pick some general subject curriculum choices and she did them on her own time at her own pace. Then she went back to school at a public Aggie school(gr 9-11). Needless to say 3 1/2 yrs later she is graduating this month(cross fingers> pending grades from local college) from NARHS. I should NEVER have sent her back but she was out of control at home. I thought school would be better. It wasn't-> she just got more freedom to be out of control!
  10. I too saw this You Tube posted by a home schooling friend of mine locally. It broke my heart as I watch my little ones go through their "issues". But yet wherever I go,I frequently(mostly) hear "oh they are just young, all kids their age are like that". Well I guess my quack Drs at Mass General have no clue and are over educated but hey if you want to train up my children God Bless you and good luck! Sorry, have anger still from the 1 hr I tried to spend at our local Social Security office. I was trying to drop off paperwork for my son and of course had to wait just to hand it to them. In the meantime my PDD child and ADHD/Bipolar child went nuts trying to maintain themselves. True I should have not brought them, but seriously did not think I would have to wait to drop off paperwork! So 1/2 hr in, the security guard comes out and tells me of course htey can sit quietly in the chairs(LOL). And then he proceeds to tell me how his 3 boys would not dare act that way with him. I tried to say well my son here is the reason we are here which means his has a disability and it affects his comprehension and obedience, but after a few breaths I gave up and went home. BTW I did call them by phone and tell them how unhappy I was at our treatment at a facility for people with disablities! I am so no longer willing to open up about their conditions anymore.
  11. We went to a terrific clinic but that meant my son saw 1 Neuropsych Dr, 1 Psychiatrist, 1 Neurologist, and 3 at once OT, ST, PT people. Well my son hated the first guy, loved the second, felt neither good nor bad about the third and had the best of times(seriously) with the 3 therapy ladies. I think he liked the 2 hrs of fun attention. He did not however appreciate the brain MRI and it was hard for us even though they did use general anesthesia. My son has PDD-NOS so this is all we went through for this diagnosis. Unfortunately, we now have to be followed by a different Neuropsych Dr. Clinics like this are diagnostic only. You should ask before hand and also ask if they refer you afterwards based on the daignosis. I can attest to the above. His primary noticed something, then his dev. ped. noticed something, then his genetics dr noticed something...It followed a flowing pattern of referrals as well as my internet researching, which is why we dropped the dev.ped! Dawn
