  1. Even though my dd scored extremely well on the AP, she would not recommend Potters School. She only took for one year (the AP class - senior year) but found Madame S to be disorganized and had to self study quite a bit. This was 4 years ago so things may have changed.
  2. Since your ds is going off to college, this is a great time to start new traditions (hey, they have to start sometime!). It sounds like it's a good thing your ds will drive to his grandparents, as he may want to cut the trip short. :glare: I would definitely give your ds "permission" to do so. (I put that in quotes because, after all, he is now an adult and can make his own decisions). FWIW this year may be the hardest - just like when friends went off to brick and mortar kindergarten, after everybody adjusts to the "new normal" things seem to be fine.
  3. Not sure why you chose this as your first post. Do you homeschool? Moving a piano professionally is worth the expense. When we had a corporate move, they put our grand piano on the back of the moving truck. But then the movers paid > $1000 to get the piano refinished.
  4. There's no place like home! Glad you have an attorney. FABULOUS that you have all 5 kids at home :hurray:
  5. Wow. Unbelievable. I'll say it again - I'm so glad you and your dh are there - nobody will be a better advocate for your ds. Let me know if you can use air miles. DH travels a lot.
  6. Sounds like Rivendell!! Hugs to you, RivendellMom!!
  7. He cleans up nicely. You have every right to be proud!
  8. Yay for a positive diagnosis and a treatment plan!!
  9. I have known various families who successfully used all of the options you listed. Some used the same method for the entire college time and some switched it up. Some used a different option for each child depending on that child's personality and spending habits. Figure out what will work for your family, be willing to change it if it doesn't work, and don't look back :)
  10. I was sad that we lived overseas during dd's "prime Hanna" time and I didn't discover Hannas till she was nearly 10. I still got her some clothes but I can't wait to dress grandbabies to make up for lost time :)
  11. So glad you got to meet with the infectious disease specialist! And yay for his temp going down! Hope you get some answers soon.
  12. :hurray: Hooray!! Which college?
  13. I don't know whether you have already booked your hotel, but Marriott has a brand, Town Place Suites (I think that's right) with a full kitchen in every room, including a regular sized fridge. Some of them even have two bedrooms. And they're very reasonably priced, we recently got a two bedroom for $100/night.
  14. Thanks so much for your update, Rivendellmom! I didn't realize your dh was flying with you - so thankful for that!! Your being there and being his advocate in the busy hospital will do wonders for his recovery. :grouphug:
  15. Hope you are NOW on the plane and on your way to your ds! I know you can't wait to see him and give him a big hug! Prayers for a full recovery.
  16. :iagree: The only time we used "Miss Popular" we regretted it. After we signed the contract we found out she has a team and we barely saw her. We made the mistake of laying too many cards on the table (corporate move) and she used that to her advantage. Find somebody who will respect you and your time, and will keep his word. If the guy said he would call you, he should have done so by now. The only way I would use him if he has a valid excuse like a family emergency that took him away from his office/phone.
  17. Yep I would move on to a new realtor. What would you do in the negotiation stage when he's too busy to respond in a timely manner?
  18. So sorry all this is hitting at once :grouphug: As for the invoice, since you are seeing the wife soon, I would print out a copy and take it with you when you see her, don't whip it out but just deflect it with a light-hearted "Harry can be so spacey sometimes, he wasn't sure he sent you the invoice so I brought along a copy just in case he didn't get it to you." then give her a wink and your biggest smile.
  19. Yep I would escalate - social media, Trip Advisor as others have suggested. The hotel conditions were NOT what you would expect under normal circumstances. I've never packed a hardhat in my suitcase!
  20. Oh that's awful. :( It seems with the merger they tried to split everything down the middle instead of taking the best of both worlds, and now it's just a mediocre airline. Have you tried this number? It's supposed to be the best for getting you to a live person when you have baggage problems. 800-535-5225. Press 1, then press 2. I hope you get a resolution SOON.
  21. Good for you! I closed my FB account a few years ago (my best friend and I took the plunge at the same time) and haven't missed it. I think I could do a Flicker account so I could see people's photos ;)
  22. In the fall, my dd will start a PhD program in Philosophy of Education with a similar package. Her advisors were phenomenal in helping her jump through hoops.
  23. PrairieSong, I'm so glad you had a great time! Why not sort your photos while you wait for your bag to arrive, hopefully tomorrow. :) This has happened many times even when we have had plenty of time in between flights! But once I was connecting to London, and I knew my bags wouldn't make it because of a very tight connection made even tighter by a weather delay. We were actually staying about an hour outside of London, and my bags were delivered there about 24 hours after we arrived (they travelled on the flight the following day). That's why I always pack at least one change of clothes and everything I want for overnight in my carryon.
  24. Since your college is located in Belgium, I'm curious how many of your students do AP courses. And I totally agree with Jumped - the spirit of these boards is support and camaraderie. Posts like yours bother me because I fear they will shut down the easy give and take we have here. As for my own experience, my dd self-studied 4 APs (two each junior and senior year), we should have bought stock in prep books, and she was very pleased with her results. That's all the detail I'll post in this thread.
