  1. I had an account for about a year, but my best friend and I both closed our accounts at the same time. Her reason: she felt she was being a busybody :P My reason is probably more vague. As somebody said above, I found it hard to be so open to so many people at the same time, it felt like I was reducing my life to the lowest common denominator. I'm more of a one on one person anyway, so Facebook isn't a good fit for my personality :)
  2. I live about 10-15 minutes from the apartment. The location is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Dallas, as a lot of immigrants live there. I drove right by the hospital on Friday, just in my normal course of my day. I can tell you that everybody I know is more concerned by the storm damage Thursday night (still lots of homes without power) than by the Ebola patient being in our backyard.
  3. Very cool. Have a great time!! And how wonderful that you can fit in your band uniform!
  4. Since I'm currently wearing an organic cotton nightgown….I will say organic cotton is way softer than otherwise cotton. :)
  5. Because you're just ready for intermission. And a break from all that dancing! :smash:
  6. Does the seller specify selling only to UK buyers? Otherwise you should have no problem dealing with the seller directly. FWIW I joined Ebay when we lived in the UK, so my Ebay account still said Ebay UK for a long time, till I finally figured out how to switch it to the US. I kept having sellers tell me they couldn't ship in the UK, even though we had moved back to the US :P
  7. Wow! I have no interest in a typical cruise, but I would love watching the trees go by. :)
  8. You need to change your settings. Click on "View New Content" in the upper right corner. When you get to that page, look at the left hand column for "By Time Period." Mine is for "past two weeks" and I never get to the end of that :p ETA I just reread your post and I guess you've tried that. I would either reboot or clear out your cookies. It sounds like something with your device, because it's working fine for me.
  9. Since you really like the doctor, I would go ahead and pay it eventually, maybe after you lose the sting of paying for homeschool materials. My PCP moved to a concierge model about a year ago. Her annual fee (on top of our insurance copays) is $1350. I wouldn't blink at paying $100 to be one of her patients.
  10. Hugs to you! Good for you for making memories while you can. The main thing I would encourage you to do sooner rather than later is get the POA in place, as that will open doors that legally would otherwise be closed to you (or your mom).
  11. This was my thought as well. EL, your tenacity amazes me. :grouphug:
  12. While not a Questbridge scholar herself, my dd's best friends at college were Questies. Just be sure to have all your documents done EARLY - the deadline for 2015 applicants is Sept. 26. But you'll get your decision in early December. You might want to have a look at their website -
  13. I was going to suggest a Volvo as well. We've been a Volvo-only family during 27 years of marriage - the only times we've sold them were right before our international moves. Otherwise we just keep driving them...
  14. What a GREAT way to avoid late payments.
  15. Thanks for posting this. I heard him speak once, and he said he would never be open on Sundays, that he made more money in six days than he would in seven. And I know many people who get CFA on Saturdays for the one reason that you can't get it on Sundays :P My dd had a doll named Truett, she liked CFA so much.
  16. My caller ID once said it was MY NUMBER calling :glare: So I did a little research and found this.
  17. This is such a hard road. My 86 yo mom has really gone downhill mentally this summer. We have made a lot of changes and she's been a trouper in the process. The best advice I got about dealing with an elderly loved one - my job is to find the best place and get the best care for him or her, NOT necessarily to provide it. We moved my mom to a memory unit a few weeks ago, and she has adjusted very well. Now we can ENJOY our time with her, rather than being exhausted from providing for her needs.
  18. This was going to be my suggestion as well. And the BBC movies (with two different actors in various stories) are very well done.
  19. Oh good grief. I don't think musicianmom needs to address any issues other than her request for a new dress! Musicianmom, I second or third looking at Nordstrom. Find some things you like online and order them in several sizes and return the ones that don't work. And enjoy the wedding :) And congratulations on your weight loss!! 20 pounds is fabulous!! You are amazing.
  20. I just took it - one thing to note - I left a lot of the political questions (and the income and zip code question) blank and it accepted my survey :p (sometimes you have to answer every single question to advance through the survey)
  21. The last time I helped with VBS, a very pregnant mom and I stayed in the room finishing each of the kids' craft while the class went to the playground. Never again. I would support and help in a Bible memory club/camp. But that's not as glitzy and FUN as the typical VBS.
  22. Just saw this thread but wanted to let you know my dd had this keyboard all through college and loved it. It's perfect for a dorm room. Now she's ready to haul it off to grad school so it has served her well.
  23. Lisa, I'm sorry about the stressful situation. Personally I wouldn't do anything till you have a definite place and date for your move. We're totally the opposite in the corporate world, we get 6-8 weeks before moves, including international moves. It makes for a very intense transition, but we don't live in limbo for so long. I would go nuts in your situation! :grouphug:
