How many kids and what ages are you teaching and how long did your Wayfarers day last? Did you add in any extras? I really like ELTL already, I really want to do Charlotte Mason style and be able teach all my kids at once but hesitate at a formal plan because if I get off or can't fit it all in, I stress myself out. :)

If someone can help me figure out how to upload a pdf, I can post the 30 problem generic math form to the group. I'm not sure how to do it. :huh:

Our charter school used Saxon and they had the kids do their math on a general form. On a normal size piece of paper it had a narrow column on the right side that was divided and numbered into 15 spaces. This is where the answers go. Makes it very easy to correct. The rest of the sheet was divided into 15 boxes where they would show their work. The back looked the same but was numbered 16-30. If you want me to email you the file you can print, you can pm me.

Standards has a better home instructors guide and is a little more advanced in covering topics than Common core or US.
US edition is also commonly used.
So if I use US edition (which I have access to already) what will I be missing compared to Standards edition? Is it different enough it's worth buying the other?

I was thinking Singapore math and primary mathematics were the same program. Is that right?

This has been a great thread and you've all been really helpful. Thanks! Between this and some other questions I've asked, I am rethinking my whole math direction and I'm excited about it. My older 3 kids are in PS now so I only have a 4th grade dd and 1st grade dd at home along with an almost 4ds and 3month old ds. I'm thinking I will do a mix of miquon and RS for both since the 4th grader could use some good review and better understanding of basics. Then I may work her into Singapore books rather than the Saxon that my older kids used. It looks like it will appeal to her better. We have a lot of the RS Manips and card games already but older kids didn't really use them. We've never used c-rods so I ordered some to try.

Looking for "fun" math for a first grader. She went through half of the Kahn academy k-2 level last year and liked it. I'm thinking maybe Miquon? What are the differences between that and Singapore? Want to do more "playing" with math than a "just have to do it" curriculum.

I’m looking at getting Beast Academy for my “to be†4th grader this fall but not sure which level. In looking at the website she has most of the basics it recommends before going into level 4 but I’m wondering if I should get level 3 for her first for the practice in “thinking mathematically� I think the basic concepts will be a review but I’m wondering if the workbook puzzles and practice would be worth doing level 3 first just to get her brain used to looking for different ways of solving problems.
Any thoughts?

OK, I'm looking at ELTL. I'm not familiar with that program. Do you buy a teacher book and a workbook? Best place to buy? Also, do you have experience with the handwriting lessons? Are they worth getting too?

Which would you choose? Looking mostly for grammar/copywork/dictation. I am using a separate writing program (Bravewriter). I have two girls: 1st grader (would use Blue level LLATL or FLL 1 and 2) and 4th grader (would use Orange level LLATL or FLL 3). From what I can tell LLATL sounds like it would be more fun (and incorporate more phonics practice in the blue level?) but FLL looks more straight forward with less time involvement each day. Pros or cons to one or the other?

Sahamamama- some good thoughts. I hadn't really considered using both for separate things. Our basement is well lit and has large windows. It's only 3 feet below ground.

For our studies next year (daughters ages 6 and 9) I'm thinking about doing unit studies exploring the U.S. By regions, spending about 3-4 weeks on each region (southwest, Rocky Mountain, pacific coastal, New England, Great Lakes etc). One map I looked at separated the Appalachian highlands from the southern states while others combine them. Excuse my ignorance of those areas but are they different enough that you would treat them as two regions or one? I'm thinking two?

First of all, do you have a separate school room? We don't. We have a great room with kitchen, dining room and living room all in one. This also means I have very little wall space. I'd like a place to hang maps, a timeline etc. the few areas I have have other decor I could take down but this is also the place any company we have would come. I don't mind that they would see school type decor but don't want it to look like a lot of visual clutter. I could move school to the downstairs family room where we have our library and a nice big empty wall but we just have a couch there and no room for a table and it just feels "less convenient". Ideas? Thoughts?

I agree with AP's idea to let them choose from pictures in a cookbook. I think the more you learn to cook and make recipes you learn things and get more comfortable making different foods and then you don't need the book so much. With that said, I have made a Thai Salad that has salad greens and some veggies (could easily add some broccoli) and thai noodles mixed in. My family loves it. I have an ipod which I use to listen to podcasts and audio books etc. I like that it is easy to download things to right off the internet because I don't have to connect it through the computer and copy/paste things onto it. I want to get another mp3 player my kids can use that is likewise easy to put books on but don't really want them having access to the web or playing music or games on it. Any recommendations? One with a speaker so multiple kids could listen would be nice rather than headphones only. Would you just get another ipod and restrict those other things with a password somehow? or is there someother gadget out there I don't know about that would work?

Well I have no magic formula, just commiseration. I am very organized in many areas of my life--homeschooling, around the house, toy storage--but when it comes to meal planning, I'm a lost cause. I think it's because I'm a picky eater and I don't like to cook, so I don't really care what anyone eats.
I'd rather organize most anything in the house than figure out what to fix for dinner. Because after fixing dinner, there's a mess in the kitchen and all we have is food to show for it. But after organizing something, everything has it's tidy little place. Personally I vote for only eating once a day. Then everything can remain in its place for the rest of the day.
I'm kinda weird like that.
I have thought that before. I guess I'm weird like that too. :laugh:
has anyone had trouble with librivox app?

Trying to use librivox on an android device and all of a sudden it can't stream or load any of the books. I can't figure out how to fix it or what the problem is.
