  1. Sweet! Especially love Elise. (But I kind of agree with the above - the dog we got from the pound was named Sadie and that is what I thought of first...we changed it tho...)
  2. Does she want to go? If she got terribly homesick, is it driving distance where you *could* go and get her (or is this like a plane trip)? You trust the parents? If so, then I lean towards yes.
  3. :iagree::iagree: :iagree: I know someone else mentioned that they did seek evaluations, but since she kept saying how her child was having issues in social situations, missing milestones, etc - I have to wonder what doctors she was going to. My child with autism didn't reach milestone, was socially awkward, and something was off from birth - dh & I both knew it - and we kept talking to doctors until we found the right kind and that would listen to us. My brother (7 years older than me) was profoundly & severely retarded from having had a brain tumor when he was 2 yrs old (in the 60's - medicine was not what it is today, and by the time it was removed, it was the size of a grapefruit.) He wasn't supposed to live past 5. He always had grand and petit mal seizures. After a few strokes, and 7 brain surgeries, he ended up outliving many of his doctors and just passed away last July at the age of 46. For the last 25 years, he was like a 5 month old baby in a grown man's body. My Mother still went to the Nursing home - at age 70 - to feed him and see him every day. And she never complained. Never blamed God. She's a saint, imo, and a better mother than I am. The very idea that this woman's daughter didn't live up to "her" expectations and "her" ideals and "her" wants - really - makes me sick. But I am sure my own experience colors that emotional reaction.
  4. oldest preferred thumb middle preferred me youngest preferred pacifier
  5. We play Adventure Quest Worlds here at our house. Oldest dd21 used to be really, really into WoW - to an unhealthy extent (per her opinion.) But AQW is fun (and sometimes a little silly.)
  6. We lived in AZ 19 years, and never went. I don't feel like I missed anything.
  7. We named ours (and we change it when the feeling strikes us) because we think it is fun. When I did oldest dd's transcripts for college I did pick a more official sounding name than what we would normally use.
  8. That's sort of sad. :iagree: Me, too. Actually, where I used to live, there was a school supplies store, and while they did carry a some very limited Christian material, the majority of what they sold was secular. They always did really well, but then I lived in an area where there were a LOT of homeschoolers.
  9. Trinity is the name that I really, really wanted for our youngest daughter. DH didn't. :( If we have another girl, she will likely be Calliope. Or Kasimiera (the latter is a family name from my side of the family, one of my aunts from Russia was named that, and my DH loves it, more so than I do, actually. That was what he wanted for youngest daughter. I didn't.) DH really, really wanted to name our son Jericho. I actually liked it, BUT, DH's dad's name is Jerry, and I didn't want Jericho to get shortened to that. But then we found the name Jaiden (actually we saw Jayden, but we changed the spelling) and both loved it. And then about a month before he was born, Will Smith named his son that (tho spelled differently). We couldn't believe it. When we had our ds, after a few days of having no name because we were so torn, we went with Jaiden anyway because we really did like it, and it was different. Now, it is EVERYWHERE, and used for both girls and boys. My ds is 12, so he is usually much older than the other kids with that name, but still. My oldest dd21 was *almost* Brandywine. Instead, she is Sarah. She is very upset by this, and reminds us often that we should have chosen Brandywine. :glare:
  10. My Mother always told me, "never leave a child where you wouldn't leave a pile of money sitting on the seat." {shrug}
  11. Other. It would totally depend on the school - there are circumstances in which I would consider it.
