  1. When my dd was younger, she had a reaction to most sunscreens out there. We got to a point where I'd squeeze a tiny amount at the store and spread it on her skin somewhere, because it was just way too expensive to trial them all. Even with that tiny amount (yes, I felt horrible for doing it, as someone else bought that bottle for full price.. it really was less than a pea sized bit), she would react. Finally, I took her to the doctor at a clinic, and he said he suffered a similar problem, and had found Ombrelle to be the only one that he could wear. I bought a bottle (very expensive) and forutnately, it worked. I bought the regular adult variety over the child version because there were fewer ingredients in the adult version. She used it successfully for years. Then one day we ran out. I skeptically tried a tiny bit of whatever brand my parents had on hand (a really cheap brand from walmart), and she didn't react. Both she and I were expecting red, itchy rash, but it didn't happen. So, you might find a pharmacist who will let you try a bit of Ombrelle on your son before buying (it's expensive). But, my dd outgrew her reaction, and she's 11 now, so it's possible your son's reaction is here to stay, or more severe to begin with. Good luck finding a solution that works for you.
  2. I hadn't emailed her as the cost to ship internationally to Canada is almost always considerably more than buying it here. Now that I know the website is probably the only place to buy it, I'll be contacting her. Thanks for that information! (That would explain why it wasn't on any of the American sites I'd looked at.) Joyce.
  3. For grade 7: Math: Prof B level 3 French: The Easy French, Rosetta Stone Spanish: Spanish in 10 Minutes a Day, Rosetta Stone, The spanish version of Ecoutez! Parlez! (forget the title of it) History: SOTW 3, Kingfischer, librarby resources Latin: Latina Christiana 1 Logic: ?? No idea yet Writing: Writing Strands 4, 5 Reading: Ambleside Online suggestions, others we come across that are suitable. We only use AO for literature suggestions. Science: too many to list... a combination of resources from teacher supply stores, organizations (we have one on sugar from a sugar company that dd wants to use), library. We don't do science the way TWTM suggests. Grammar: Analytical Grammar I'm probably missing something, but that's what I'm thinking right now. Joyce.
  4. Hello all, I've been trying to find a source for Analytical Grammar that's in Canada (to save on shipping). Anybody know who sells this? Also, if there aren't any Canadian distributors, I'm going to need help finding a reasonably priced American distributor, and my American purchases have been pretty limited. Any suggestions? Thanks, Joyce.
  5. Karen, Thanks for the links, I'll definately have a closer look at them. Christine, I was looking just for geometry. We use Prof B for math, and really love it, but it doesn't include geometry. I didn't want dd to hit a wall when she started highschool geometry (either as part of a whole math program, or as an individual course). Thanks to you both. Joyce.
  6. My dd loved these so much she collected them... and I loved it, because I got to use All the yummy flavours. There was one that was just like golden cake. (I am not a fan of cake, but this smelled delish!) Lipsmackers are the best.
  7. If I were you, I'd talk to my dh about why he is saying no. Then see if you can come to a compromise that you can both live with. For me, I'd say yes. I would probably talk with my dd first, to let her know my expectations, tell her I'm trusting her, etc, etc.... just so she's aware.
  8. I was thinking anything that she could do while in grade 6, but if there are great resources for the higher grades, I'll look those up, too. At one point, I thought I read about a program that took you from zero knowledge to grade 8 level, but the hs supply store I used to buy my "stuff" from (great catalogue with detailed descriptions) is out of business :(, so I don't have a handy place to look up resources.
  9. I used this with my daughter. I didn't use the different colours, as suggested, nor did I write the word in the order suggested, however, I did write it. I thought it best that she see the pattern, as well as hear it when I read it out. Also, I didn't like that I may be reinforceing the wrong spelling with her spelling it out, so I wrote it on the board, or a paper (where you write it hardly matters), and if hers was different, she changed it. Sometimes she read out the spelling, sometimes I did. Though she caught on when we did it orally rather than written, she picked it up faster when we did both.
  10. Hello all, It seems like forever since I've been to TWTM forums (last time was before the new look). We had some adventures, my daughter went to school for a really short amount of time, and now she's back at home. We've been doing Professor B math, and I need something for geometry. The only formal instruction in geometry that she's received was at school when they learned about triangles and angles. She's in grade 6, is 11 years old, and is pretty good with math. Any suggestions?
