  1. its true i can read, speak and understand spanish fluently but my writing is horrible its mostly because i never use spanish writing in the US when i was little yes but now its horrible i took advanced spanish lit classes in university and bilingual education classes where papers had to be written in spanish and i had to go to the tutors many times to get my grammar checked
  2. ooh yeah i am so glad there are some more muslims coming on board here !! so i have an almost 2yr old so i dont know how much of help this is going to be but i plan to use IQRA arabic reader for elementary school (they also have preschool workbooks at noorart) along with arabic lesson with his islamic studies program Ad-Duha( yes i planned way far ahead) i am thinking of maybe getting Arabian sinbad but it has alot of music in it and we dont anything with music but we may if we cant find anything else
  3. i am not exactly in the same situation. husband and i agreed to do OPOL before my son was born and i have a back ground from majoring in bilingual education(student teaching 1st graders spanish/english) so i saw how it effects kids in language learning. my husband speaks to my son in algerian dialect of arabic (his whole family lives in Algeria for the most part and we are alone here) and i speak english. he watches only arabic cartoons and he understands my husband when he talks to him ( hes almost 2 and isnt talking yet). i plan to purchase tons of videos/ books whatever i can get my hands on because i also plan to homeschool bilingually all of my subjects in arabic/english(i just downloaded arabic math books and hubby will translate others for me) the only issue i am having is DH working so late so i have to pick up the slack with the little words i know. i also am doing an arabic class online so i can read and write but just basic right now. so do whatever you can and hopefully you kids will have some level of fluency
  4. how is the arabian sinbad working for you? my husband speaks arabic and we are doing opol(one parent one language right now) so hopefully once my lil one starts talking he will be bilingual but he does understand arabic. i was thinking about this but hubby says the way they speak arabic is funny sounding( he's north african) so i plan to use IQRA for arabic the new editions. but i am still curious about arabian sinbad because i liked it
  5. dont wait on me lol my lil one is too young for this he's 2 right now i am just looking ahead a little bit.
  6. i found this site through a homeschool blog and i was wondering if anyone had used it before it seems nice and has a lot of content on it. way more than more starfall so if any one has an opinion on it i would be glad to hear it http://www.abcmouse.com/
  7. there is stories of the world by Safia Iqbal http://www.noorart.com/Stories-of-the-World-Book-1 this is bok one but there is a whole series. i plan to use this for history(but i have not physically held a copy just saw samples on link i sent you.) i plan to use Ad-Huda which someone listed for islamic studies and science i plan to use a combo of things and just edit out if neccesarry. i live in Canada and all the islamic schools here use secular science books and just supplement with stuff about muslim scientists. its a shame there really isnt to much curriculum for muslims yet but where i live there aren't many families who homeschool(muslim or non muslim) since we have over may 100 or so islamic schools in my region. but inshallah this will help you.
  8. im all ears on this post my lil one is 2yrs this summer and i feel the exact same way as you do. i am considering this programhttp://ad-duha.org/html/alp__recommended_for_prek_.html it looks good but i dont have any experince with it so i figure we would try it a year and see what happens
  9. i was tv addict before and most of it was garbage reality tv crap lol i gave up tv when i was 21 and got married its been about 4 yrs now and i am soooo glad. i have alot more time to do things that are of better use of my time. we thought about buying a tv to get a wii when my son gets a little older but decided against it.
  10. this happened to me alot when i was still living in the US. since i am muslim and i cover in hijab people would just assume i was from somewhere else. until they heard me talk. i am from the south and i have a southern drawl lol. but i have gotten the people who yell go back to your country. i just laugh lol and tell them i am in my country. funny though i live in toronto and there is tons of muslims here and everyone can tell im american straight off lol
  11. hi i am muslim and what would be appropriate to say is may god give you patience and replace you with something better than what you lost. i checked with my husband on this as well and he said that would be best thing to say coming from a non muslim. hope that helps
  12. wow obviously i have been missing out on slow cooking. we cook from scratch mostly and i just make food every few days. I never realized you could make so much with out me standing over the stove and stirring thanks ladies
  13. Ok this may sound dumb but I have no clue what a slow cooker is used to cook. But for some reason i feel like i may need one. i know people make stew in them but we make stew in a pot is there a difference in taste? also can anyone recommend one that is modest in price and size we are a small family? thanks in advance
  14. i really been thinking about ordering these from vision forum but i wanted to know if anyone else has them and could give me an opinion on them? i am interested in the sewing, quilting, bread baking.... ok so maybe all of them lol. any help would be greatly appreciated
  15. i actually knew about this movie and i have seen the trailer before. i read alot of stuff about homemaking etc from vision forum and one of the blogs i read by voddie bauchman's( i may be spelling this wrong) daughter jasmine had the trailer i think. Anyways i am what most consider very a conservative muslim, and i could see where christians would want to be aware of stuff that is being taught against their religion. i have a 18 month old and i know i am already worried. thats the main reason why we will homeschool is so we can teach according to our religion(which is very much part of every aspect of our life).i think the best for families who are having really bad isssues with this would be to just homeschool unless you had no choice.
  16. hi i was just wondering about MEP Reception ? could this be done with a 2 1/2 yr old or 3yr old? i know of someone using it for there really young one but am not sure it would be too much or not. any other suggestions for a mathy kinda program for a toddler. i am new to homeschooling so i make be way ahead of myself
  17. I am Muslim but not sufi there is http://www.noorart.com/ they sell islamic studies curriculum and tons of books on islam. my little one is too little for homeschooling but i intend to purchase stuff from them and they sell books, toys, games etc. i dont know if they sell Sufi stuff though. Alot of the mainstream stores i notices sell either sunni stuff or ****e info check anything associated Hamza Yusuf because he's sufi. inshallah you will find what your looking for.
