  1. 3 yr old non verbal waiting on a official diagnosis ( we will get wait listed for an assessment will take 14 months -2yrs) unofficial diagnosis low functioning Autism. he is actually getting worse by the day
  2. i just wanted to stop in quick and post my excitement someplace where i know people will get how big of a deal it is. so as you know my little one will be 3 next month. still waiting for appointments about a autism diagnosis. he is still non verbal but we made a little bit of progress. i have been debating about PECS or sign language for awhile because i had been signing to him for months with no luck. well finally it worked!! the other morning my son was hungry and wanted his milk and sure enough he comes to where i am sitting and does the sign for milk !! i about cried and i am sure i did some shameful version of a touchdown dance lol. now he does it for his milk all the time !! i am so excited! for him this is a huge deal and i hope this leads to more progress.
  3. i have the regular old copper IUD no hormones. i haven't had any issues with it at all. my periods are the same as they have always been and i haven't had any other issues. i have had mine for a couple of months. i switched from the mini pill.
  4. no none of the school administration or parents gave me any problem. when i was looking for a placement to do my student teaching my university let the school know ahead of time to see if it would be an issue and they told me if it was they would look until they could find me a place. i went in an explained why i wear it and the accommodation i would require. the only thing i asked of the school is if i could cover the small window on the door( the windows looking outside were not an issue because they were very high up) and that if a male was to enter the room they would knock (again not an issue because teachers generally knock when the door was closed anyways). All of the parents of the kids in my class were informed i was there, that i would not be wearing my niqab except when we were outside of the classroom and that i would not be going into any religious discussion out side of i am muslim , i cover because of my beliefs. they also had the option of transferring their kid out of the classroom if there was an issue and i always left my class open to parents to come and observe or talk to me if there was any concerns. i never had a parent transfer their kid, a few observed the 1st week then after that nothing. i taught 1st grade. these kids really didn't care they were just curious.they didn't see me any different than other teachers. i think i wore my niqab over my face less than 5 times while i was in the classroom and normally it was a janitor coming in to check something a few secs then i flipped it back up. i think i am really approachable.people ask questions but its normally not an issue once they get to know you. the problem is you have some ignorant people who have misconceptions and stereotypes so ingrained in them they can't get to know people who are different without apply those stereotypes on them
  5. i wear niqab and i said i wasn't going to post but.. i was offended by what you said i am not a black sheet with eyes. and when i was student teaching none of my 1st graders thought i was a black sheet with eyes. they had no issues with me what so ever other than asking why. i told them it was my religious belief and that was the end of the conversation. i never even covered unless we were at recess for the most part and they didn't care they were more concerned with me playing with them
  6. i stopped reading this thread awhile ago. but i did want to again say if anyone is really curious about niqab they are more than welcome to contact me. i do where niqab, i have taught in school, i do have a special needs child. i am more than willing to answer any thing you would like to ask. i will not post or reply to any comments here as i feel the thread took a direction i am just not caring to go in
  7. I don't think you should be hesitant to share. I don't agree with you but I think everyone should be able to give their opinion.
  8. i feel like this if i am in a free country where i have the right to freedom of religion i have every right to dress in with my face covered if i feel like it. i am born and raised American. my father fought in the military and got injured fighting for our country. i am concerned that people(not necessarily you i am speaking in general) feel like certain rights should not be given to certain people because its not what they agree with
  9. not a problem at all! i don't mind answering questions for anyone who asks.it helps get rid of stereotypes. we can't learn about others unless we do.:001_smile:
  10. i am sorry that you personally feel that.i don't feel of lesser value to anyone with my face covered nor do i feel as if i am respected less. i do agree that not all countries(muslim or non muslim) have a high standard of women. i don't think it is a positive view for women to be running around showing off everything or wearing bikinis either. i also do not think countries where prostitution is legal is great for women either, but we all have our standards and values. i don't cover my face when i am talking to other women so i am ok. as far as me having facial communication i do not need it when i am around other men nor do i want it. to each its own though.:001_smile:
  11. ok well i think i might be the only niqab wearing woman on the boards here so i will try to answer as much as i can remember from what i read so far. i wear niqab for religious reasons. i am american and i live in Canada now. a woman would not need to wear a niqab if she was teaching a class under the age of puberty in class unless there were huge windows that couldn't be covered. i actually was in university studying bilingual education(spanish/eng) and i did my student teaching in a 1st grade class room they just had a small window that was covered and it was known that any male teacher would need to knock before entering. i then just threw it down over my face and done. i can see perfectly fine in a huge group of people with no issues. i have never had a problem with people not being able to hear or understand me with my face covered the fabric is very thin so i don't really see how that could be an issue unless the person was very soft spoken. For people who have children who need to read faces yes this could possibly be an issue but i honestly don't know anyone who wears niqab(most of my friends do and even some of their high school age daughters do) that teach in public schools. mostly it would be temporary for student teaching purposes. i do not think i am invisible nor do i try to be if you live near me i can be seen everywhere. am i hot in the summer yes i am, but sometime you have to sacrifice to please God and for me its worth a little bit of discomfort. anyone else with questions or if i missed something feel free to ask

Honestly this board is a blessing because i came here when i didn't have anywhere to go and many people have been so helpful to me. i hope that once i have a little bit of experience under my belt i will be helpful to someone else here as well
  14. hi there i dont use this curriculum yet but am planning on it in the future (mine is too little for school right now) but i could never find a group or anything for it. so i am not sure if there is one. hope that helps

  17. i just need to get this all out and i dont have anywhere or anyone to talk to so here we go. my son will be 3 in 2 months. we always thought something was off with him, and he's non verbal. we had him evaluated for ST. yeah they suggested we get him evaluated for ABA, and get him seen by a developmental ped. for a assesment. so basically we have found so far he has no receptive language at all. i thought he was understanding but he doesn't. he knows his name. he doesn't even understand mama and dada. he use to say 4 words but regressed this past year to no words just grunting and pointing. so i researched autism and i think my heart fell because he had tons of red flag symptoms that i didnt even know to look for.i wont bore you with a big list but he had way more than the required amount of symptoms to get a autism dx. we took him to the family doctor and she referred him to the pediatrician. but because we live in ontario canada this stuff takes time. so basically i have to wait to get an appointment which could take months and then they will refer me to a developmental ped which in the end could take me 1-2yr to get a dx. then i found out to get him ABA therapy which is covered by ohip(goverment healthcare) the waiting list in my area is 1yr after u have a dx, and then they will give him 6 months of therapy. after that i have to put him back on the bottom of the list and do the process all over again. and i feel like he is getting worse and we can't wait possibly 2yrs for help. DH got a 2nd job so we can try to save for therapy because right now we can't afford it(it would cost $900 a month) so its just really stressful. i want to cry , i want to scream and i am feel angry at the system right now. we are getting materials to try to do some ABA stuff at home and i am looking into possibly getting the PECS manual to try to maybe get him started in awhile and just reading , and more reading. i had plans to start homeschooling him at 4 for jk but it clear he won't be ready. i am just lost and i feel stressed out and semi- depressed i really don't know what to do or what i should do. i'm not asking for anything specific. i just needed someplace to come and have someone understand.
