  1. Congrats! that is so great. love the poem and painting:party:
  2. In my other homeschooling circle. you are considered a homeschooling parent at 2.5-3. its Montessori based and the montessori program runs primary from 2.5 or 3 to 6yrs old. It is not considered daycare. It is school. The children are learning reading, the four basic math operations, zoology, botany, geography etc. By 6 they are very far ahead. I am not sure about daycares though. I guess it depends what a person would consider school
  3. This is all really helpful. Do you have any app suggestions? We have injini development suite, alpha and tiny tots but that's basically it. So I could use some good ones.
  4. Thank you for this! my son is delayed in everything as well and is now minimally verbal. we plan to use montessori at home with him with other stuff thrown in. to be honest i am trying not to worry to much about it but its hard. i am sure it will be 5 or 6 maybe before he has enough receptive language to do any core subject. so its good to see what a scope and sequence looks like so i have some kinda idea. feeling kinda lost right now.
  5. Here in Toronto area we have a huge EID carnival at one of the sporting arenas on sunday and then in 2 weeks we have Muslim fest which is a big festival. so alot of people go do that kind of stuff. we stay home and BBQ normally and buy my son gifts. sometimes we go visit my husbands family. I don't go to the EID prayer because my son is special needs and anything with alot of people is too much for him. we are more conservative so we don't take our son to the muslim events here because we don't agree with alot of stuff going on there. frugalmamas - i totally understand me and my family fell out when i converted. i was 21 still living at home while i was in university. i actually transferred to an out of state college because they were making my life miserable. stay strong! inshallah you situation will get better:grouphug:
  6. i am in my 20's and i grew up in tampa. I think its wonderful for homeschooling. you have many homeschooling groups there. MOSI, the zoo, Busch gardens, and tons of extracurricular as well as USF which has alot of summer programs. Also the beach and orlando are close by as well. I have never been to Omaha so i can't comment on it.
  7. we have a gumdrop case on the ipad and i know they make phone cases as well. I find it super protective. it is my 3yr olds ipad and he drops it quite often and its still in one piece
  8. I just read your blog. Are you using Montessori for language? Because I would think even if he has speech problems the pink, blue, and green series would be ok. Not 100% on this though. Are you In the Montessori homeschool group? You can ask there. A few ladies have ASD kids and they been helpful when I asked about similar stuff. I'm setting up to do primary now
  9. i am in the same boat as you my son is a little over three can say 3 words that makes sense and alot of baby babble. he also loves books and "reads all day and night" they think he is low functioing ASD not sure we still got a 1.5yr wait for diagnosis. he does know and recognize all of his letters and sounds except x and z. we are teaching him sign and holding off on phonic and any schooling outside of some montessori stuff at home at least for another year( when he will get speech, OT/feeding hopefully). we are reading tons and hoping this will give him some time to pick up. my opinion is (and i am no expert) wait and let his speech catch up. if he loves books and you keep reading to him and give him access to books he won't lose the love of reading. i think it would frustrate him to try to do phonics or something.
  10. quick question, off topic and sorry to hijack thread but does OT help with feeding issues? because my son is 3 and he has texture issues and is very limited in food he currently eats chicken legs(no skin and can only be boiled), carrots if boiled, whole wheat bread, bananas, apple sauce and yogurt. thats it anything else he throws up. we give him a multivitamin and iron supplement but its not helping and i really would like to get him to eat something else
  11. valerian root is natural supplement. DH takes it in tea form and it works really well
  12. thanks so much. i am going to try to work more on the receptive language and hopefully we will have a breakthrough
  13. yes he sounds the words out loud he can verbalize just a few months ago when a speech therapist evaluated him for our many waiting lists he had almost no receptive language and no expressive language either talking or signing. now he can sign maybe 6 words and his receptive is getting alot better he does not respond to educational shows at all. he just started responding to me and DH. and he does not interact with others. hope that is helpful
  14. so just quick question. my son is still not talking but he is signing more and now he is trying to read( as in he knows most of the sounds of the alphabet and opens books and points to word and tries to phonetically sound out all the words). he is 3 with possible autism( we got 14 months left on a evaluation and 10 months left for waiting list for therapy). i am not really sure what to do with him. his comprehension is getting better but i am really not sure how to get him to focus less on trying to read and focus on trying to talk. he literally is sounding out everything. thanks in advance
