  1. I will have a bigger stash of liquid hand soap (little/none available locally for the past month), cleaning/disinfecting products (haven't seen any on the shelves for a month), hand sanitizer (last seen on March 9, unless you count the overpriced 1oz bottle of strawberry scented sanitizer I bought last week).

Probably will wear a mask while shopping.  If no one is wearing a mask, everyone avoids the person who is.  Now that everyone is wearing a mask/scarf/bandanna/balaclava, we all just avoid each other.

  2. My last shopping trip was March 27.

No liquid hand soap; haven't seen any for a couple weeks. 3 small bags of flour (I bought one of them). Not  much sugar. Haven't seen hand sanitizer since March 9 - I got lucky when I asked at the counter for it  that day - last time I saw a bottle on the shelf was in February. Cereal and bread shelves were half empty. Tofu has been low/gone for months but I think that's an issue unrelated to COVID-19 shopping.  Produce is often dilapidated and low/missing stock, which makes me wonder if the stores are stocking overnight like they claim, or if there is a shortage.  I shop as early in the morning as possible.

The hard thing is shopping for my elderly mom, having to explain to her that bulk foods are no longer available ("but I only want a half cup of ____") and trying to figure out substitutions for her and working with store limits of how many items per category.

I have enough for the foreseeable future.  If I have to get more, I will be looking for a pharmacy with drive up or mail delivery!

Walgreens says they will deliver prescriptions, no charge.

  4. Regarding thermometers:

I opened up one of our digital thermometers (can't find the other, sigh, story of my life) and got the battery size.  Just ordered a cheap pack of batteries from eBay.  Even if they're not long-lasting, a ten pack was $2.

And while I was on the site, I bought a couple of digital thermometers - one for us, and one for an elderly family member who I bet doesn't have one.  They're unbranded; I'm guessing dollar-store quality but it's better than nothing.

“Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Taco Bell's CEO said the fast-food chain is prepared to shut down its dining rooms and only offer drive-thru and delivery to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Wondering if this will be the grocery shopping experience in the near future.

  6. Governor Inslee just said:

All K-12 schools in Washington state closed through at least April 24.  No in-person courses at colleges through April 24.  Classes that are labs or clinics can continue if there is social distancing.

The "at least" portion makes me wonder if it's going to end up with schools closed until the new school year in August/September.

  7. Seattle is closing all libraries, community centers, parks programs, pools tomorrow until at least April 13.  Sno-Isle library system (Snohomish & Island counties) is closing tomorrow also.

  8. From Seattle Times:

"6 people have now died from coronavirus disease in Washington state; King County buying a motel to house isolated patients

Four new deaths from COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2, were confirmed in Washington state today. King County is purchasing a motel to house isolated patients and setting up modular units to do the same, County Executive Dow Constantine said in a news conference Monday."

  9. One of my kids gets super soft fleece throw blankets from the local discount store.  They are cheap, around $5-6 if you don't mind seasonal patterns.  Then pins them around their neck like a cape.  If you wash cold gentle cycle and tumble dry low, they stay soft for a long time.

ETA: like what Arcadia's son does.

  10. Regarding the hospital claim - if this happened:

    * the hospital billed Wrong Insurance Company within that insurance company's timely filing window

    * the claim was denied for no coverage

    * you then provided the correct insurance information

the hospital should be able to bill your 2019 insurance, even though it is outside the 180 day window - they must provide proof of timely filing with Wrong Insurance Company together with the claim, and they may need to write an appeal - and your insurance company would then process the claim.

    Regarding the collections account:

Did your ds ask the collection agency what doctor or facility the account is for?  Also, the collection agency should be able to provide the original account number.  The dollar amount on the collections account may not match an EOB from earlier in 2019; late fees may be added to an unpaid medical account for some period of time before the account is sent to a collections agency.

US State Department just declared a level 4 travel advisory to all of China. Other countries have done the same.

They are running out of testing kits and hospitals are overwhelmed. The numbers aren’t going to be accurate because of that and other reasons. At least they’re working with other countries.

A US evacuee who flew into Riverside mentioned that the CDC thinks this virus has been around since possibly October. They are taking blood samples to check for antibodies. I’m following the person who’s talking about it.

Ugh. I feel very sorry for the people in China.

Do you have a link for the bolded?

That seems high if there were actually only 6000-8000 cases in a city the size of Wuhan.

I mean for that many Japanese to have happened to have encountered ill Chinese, it seems to me that there must be way higher numbers of people sick (or asymptomatically transmitting disease) than have been suggested in reports I have seen.

Unless it was something like a single tour group all of whom encountered the same sick person.

I think there are many more ill than the number of cases quoted in the press.  I have read on several sites that China is stating there is a shortage of test kits. So... I think there is really no way to track how many people have coronavirus there.

USA CBS news?  Link not working again, but can cut and paste a section

“Death toll rises to 132, with more than 5,900 confirmed cases in China
