  1. I haven't grown out of playing with Lego yet. I buy sets for myself occasionally. . My teen who was into Lego as a younger kid still builds stuff. My teen who stopped playing with Lego after they outgrew Duplo has no interest.
  2. I just buy marinated mushrooms in a bulk container from the olive bar, when I buy the olives. I serve them in a little bowl with the pickle & olive tray. It's my lazy way out, but hey, all the other food takes a lot of time and effort to prepare. :)
  3. Thank you for mentioning this! I just checked the "saved" section of my cart, and a brainteaser game I've been eyeing is 44% off. Merry Christmas to me!
  4. Also forgot to say, last year I used a pre-made Mi-Del GF crust for the pumpkin pie. It was a sweet crust, not my favorite, and IMO it didn't go well with the pumpkin filling. My kids weren't fond of it either. I have made GF crusts from scratch but I find them difficult to handle. This year I am making pumpkin pudding - just the pumpkin filling, baked in a casserole dish.
  5. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? They sell GF stuffing. I made it last year and it turned out pretty good.
  6. One of my kids' doctors is going to order thyroid tests and B12 and folate tests. What are the exact tests that give all the needed info? I know TSH alone doesn't give the info needed. The doctor is willing to order the various thyroid tests instead of just TSH but I need to know what ask for. Also, B12 and folate tests - is there more than one kind for each?
  7. My kid said "it probably depends on who your friends are" and that the teachers appeared either to not care, or to encourage the kids to go. Kid opted to stay, probably due to highly appealing activity in ___ hour class.
  8. Yes, some (not sure how many) of the earlier books were re-written. Same with the Bobbsey Twins books. I don't know about the Hardy Boys.
  9. Hm. Drive past the Metro stops near my kid's school, just before or after school. Hordes of kids at every stop, waiting for the bus or streaming off. That is the main way kids who live 2+ miles from their MS/HS get to & from school every day. You may see more kids on the bus/at the stops for MS/HS located in less residential areas, due to significant amounts of the 2 mile radius being taken up with businesses rather than homes, or at schools with district-wide draw (IB, STEM, etc.). I see plenty of kids on downtown buses too. Kids who attend a private school or a MS/HS across town often have to transfer through downtown. Maybe your district provides yellow bus for MS/HS rather than relying on Metro?
  10. guacamole salsa cream cheese (comes in a tub) cream cheese covered with pepper jelly (yum, my fave!) hot artichoke dip onion dip (sour cream + envelope of onion soup mix, need to check this for MSG if you're trying to avoid it) tapenade
  11. You didn't say if she is taking meds, but if she is, antidepressants can cause manic or hypomanic behavior in some people. If this were to be the situation, could you call the psychiatrist to report behaviors/symptoms? The dr wouldn't be able to tell you anything without your daughter's consent, but he/she would then be aware that something possibly med-related is going on.
  12. If you go to a psychiatrist for meds, try to find someone who will do a complete eval prior to prescribing. I took one of my kids to a p-doc who just prescribed without thorough evaluation, and kid ended up on a trail of wrong meds. This came on the heels of different wrong meds prescribed by PCP.
  13. Had she been ill prior to the heart issue starting? I had (have?) something similar, which came on after a bout of flu about six years ago. I ended up with a holter monitor which showed the irregular beats, but the doctor said it wasn't anything significant. Eventually it got better, but it seems to recur every time I get ill. It has never been as bad as it was the first session. I really thought my heart would stop then. It was very scary. I hope your dd can find out what is causing it, and that it will go away. :grouphug:
  14. Same here. ETA: I am due for my annul mammo, but am putting it off not because it hurts (which it doesn't) but because my most recent biopsy (which HURT) is too fresh in my memory.
  15. Because you said Maeve Binchy: Flambards series by K. M. Peyton. One of my favorites, which I have re-read multiple times from my late teens. The Cazalet Chronicle (series) by Elizabeth Jane Howard. It was actually a four book series for a long time; I just found out the fifth was recently published and it's waiting for me on my Kindle. I found the first four engrossing. Shell Seekers and Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher.
  16. Boys and girls could take shop at my school. Very few girls took the class, and the teacher let only the boys use all of the power tools. We girls could use only some of the most basic ones such as the jigsaw. I think we even had to use the hand drill rather than the power drill. My school had wood shop; I don't remember if there was metal shop. I made a flat wooden mouse shape, and a wood box. Probably some other things, but I don't remember. I still have the box. Home ec was for girls only. Boys could take "Bachelor Living" class in high school. My brother's school had wood shop and metal shop. He took both, and made some useful stuff -- metal candleholders, a wooden display rack for souvenir spoons (remember those?), and a metal trowel with a wooden handle which we used for picking up after the dog lol.
  17. I almost never take off my wedding ring (plain band). MRI, surgery, those are about the only times I've taken it off. I don't have an engagement ring.
  18. Favorite - Milky Way and 3 Musketeers Least favorite - carob covered raisins :ack2:, Hershey's Special Dark which is secret candy code for "brown wax", and religious tracts. No parental control over the candy, except we gave all the Mounds & Almond Joy to our mom because they were her faves. Never heard about x-raying candy at the time.
  19. 4 1/2 years ago, don't remember the acronym but it included pertussis.
  20. Our whole family has gone to the pharmacy for flu shots the last couple of years, kids included. Some pharmacies here advertise they do immunizations for age 3+. Yeah, maybe it's a state thing. This year we have to wait till November 1, as (different insurance this year) insurance is having trouble getting it set up. If I went now, I would get the vaccine for free but would have to submit for reimbursement for administration. No thanks, I'll wait.
