  1. Ohhhh, now I get what happened. I had read: "I got my license back when you had to appear in court..." as: "I got my license back (meaning REINSTATED)..." and I thought, wow, 16 is really young to already have had your license revoked for too many violations. No wonder you have to go to court and get a lecture to get your license reinstated. :blushing:
  2. My genealogy research has been gathering dust since three computers ago. I can't remember what software I used, and it's probably hopelessly out of date anyway. Do you have any recommendations for current software?
  3. Space Food Sticks! At the time, I thought they were soooooo yummy. I bet I wouldn't think the same thing now. I think that was the same year that Twinkies and Ding Dongs boxes had presidential trading cards printed on the back.
  4. They are "high school" - most U.S. high schools are four years Freshman = 9th grade (ages 14/15) Sophomore = 10th grade (ages 15/16) Junior = 11th grade (ages 16/17) Senior = 12th grade (ages 17/18) Then the student graduates, and goes on to college university, job, etc. eta - some school districts put the 9th grade students in the same school with the 7th & 8th grade students. Most of the districts where I live put the 6th, 7th, 8th grade students together in one school; the high schools are four years. 6th/7th/8th is usually called "middle school" But way back when I was in school: up through grade 6 was called "elementary school" or "grade school" 7th/8th was "junior high" 9th through 12th was "high school"
  5. And the book is...? (inquiring minds want to know)
  6. I think you need to find a different psych! Ask around, find someone who is experienced with autism and co-morbid issues. If you are paying for this, you want to be paying someone who really understands the things they're evaluating. As for insurance, here is what I did. I asked the psych's office what CPT codes they use to bill for the evaluation. Then I called my insurance company to see if those codes were covered services (and you will want to ask specifically if they are covered when billed by out-of-network providers). And I asked for the rep's name, and a reference number.
  7. Is there a children's hospital within reasonable driving distance? If so, the family should call that hospital (assuming they haven't already done so). An acquaintance told me (from personal experience with one of their kids) that our local children's hospital admits all kids in your family member's situation. I don't know how they make room, but they do. They don't send the kids out to other facilities.
  8. I'd ask for a different room. I wouldn't blast music/TV or talk loudly to retaliate, because that could easily bother people in the other adjoining room, or in the rooms above or below mine.
  9. Yes. Just saw somebody wearing one in the grocery store on Wednesday. My teen wants one, but the ones that kid likes are either $$$$ or hand wash only. So I promised to sew one... 'cause the ones I made for my kids when they were small have been long since outgrown.
  10. Do you know the brand/style number? 'Cause I need to go to Costco... :)
  11. That's what our (former) ped said. She totally missed red flags in two of my kids.
  12. Soooo not ready. We're supposed to have dinner and gift exchange with the extended family tomorrow. We haven't bought a single present for this yet. And I haven't bought the ingredients for my dinner contribution either. I haven't yet bought any gifts for one of my dc because kiddo repeatedly says they don't know what they want and I have no ideas. Maybe will give an IOU but that sure won't be fun to open IMO. Nothing wrapped. Tree up with lights on, but no decorations (not gonna happen this year). Cookie dough in fridge, no cookies baked yet. I think gift cards will be my friends this year. I'm going shopping now...
  13. Those old KMart trees are surprisingly long-lasting. I just put ours up for its 18th Christmas. It started losing needles a year or two ago, so I guess it is time to keep an eye out for a replacement.
  14. This. Call your PCP and inquire about cash pay rates.
  15. I vote wait. First mammogram is a VERY common time for a call-back (for ultrasound, biopsy, etc.) and if you don't have insurance, it can end up $$$. Of course, this is assuming your upcoming mammo is for baseline only, and you have no indications of any issues going on.
  16. My thoughts: If your ds has games he likes that are on his iPod -- check to see if those games are available through the Amazon appstore before buying a Fire. Not all Apple (or android for that matter) games are available in the Amazon appstore. Also I don't know that Fire can talk to iTunes. I find the Fire's music management situation clunky. One thing I like about the Fire is easy access to Amazon Underground, where you can get a selection of full games for free, unlimited free hints, etc. I don't know if you can get access to this from an iPod. Like a pp said, you can expand the memory on the Fire because there is a slot for an SD card.
  17. There is the Timex Expedition Metal Field Mini women's watch... it has the 24 hour dial, and is small.
  18. Because you can sew... Make your own Snuggie Polarfleece is on sale at Joann, and it appears to be a quick project with only four seams.
  19. About the meds, I just want to say: For some people, some pysch meds don't work as intended but instead cause problems. As in, things get worse, not better, or there are significant negative side effects. This can happen for various reasons, including genetics. There is genetic testing that can be done, to help figure out which meds shouldn't be prescribed, and which are likely to work.
  20. If you mean rectangular, say 1/2" x 2"? Daiso Japan usually has these. Cats, rabbits, etc. They are not the best quality for extended stickiness, but sooooo cute. And of course cheap.
  21. Look at Joann's. I have seen Calico Critters there within the past few months. I don't know if they have the luxury town home though. You can get coupons from their website and if the coupons are valid for the CCs, that would knock the price down.
  22. Some insurance companies do not offer earthquake insurance. You will need to ask. Availability/pricing will probably depend on the construction of the home (materials, age of dwelling, etc.) and where it is located. I just looked at our homeowners policy. Earthquake insurance is 25% of the total $ amount of our premium, and if we need to use it, there is a 10% deductible. If Mt. Rainier erupts, one predicted result is lahar (mudflow). You can look at the maps to see what areas have historically been affected.
  23. Similar tag price for the VSP shops here. Unfortunately I have progressive lenses now, which bumped the after-insurance cost from $300 up to $500. :(
