  1. I loved the Bic "for her" pen reviews! Here's another classic. http://www.food.com/recipe/ice-cubes-420398
  2. I had a nest near the base of a young tree in our yard. I didn't want to pour anything on the nest that might kill the tree and a local beekeeper suggested putting a tarp over the entry hole for 3-4 days. It worked and we haven't had any issues since! Just be careful while putting the tarp out!!
  3. My parents had a good system for dishes once my brother and I were old enough to handle washing our own. They bought a place setting of dishes for each person. They were different colors so if plates were left out, the culprit was readily identifiable. Also, if we forgot to clean our dishes, when the next meal was served, we went without until we cleaned our dishes. It definitely cut down on the mess.
  4. It's just the sugar recrystallizing. They're still edible. To avoid the spots, make sure you stir constantly and gently and don't let the sides of the pan get too hot.
  5. We have the glow in the dark and glass versions. We can't get them to shatter like on the youtube videos. Anyone else run into this?
  6. I'd have it checked out. One of my sons developed toxic/transient synovitis at about that age. Apparently, it's common in boys from ages 5-6. It's not nearly as scary as the name sounds. Basically, it's an inflammation of the hip joint that clears up on its own but it does need to be monitored. Hope he feels better soon!
  7. There's a transportation/Train museum in Spencer that is pretty neat if you have one that's into that sort of thing. It's pretty close to Charlotte.
  8. We just adopted a stray pup about a month ago. Bella was emaciated and had a nasty injury to her paw when she was found by the side of a road but she is recovering. She's growing like a weed now. I think she's going to be a big ol' girl. :)
  9. Here's a couple links that might help: http://www.family-games-treasurehouse.com/printable_pin_the_tail_on_the_donkey.html http://www.family-games-treasurehouse.com/preschool_party_games.html For decorations, let your little one make some artwork on construction paper and display them proudly. You could also let the guest make some art to add as an opening activity. Good luck!
  10. As far as I know, there's no treatment for vitiligo. You can look into Dermablend as a coverup for the marks.
  11. My family has a branch with very similar features to what you're facing. Tall, thin, hypermobility, flat feet, scoliosis. I was checked for Marfan as a teen and, just recently, an orthopedist wanted my oldest son screened. After speaking with a specialist, he said there was no way that what my family has is Marfan because we live too long. Marfan's patients rarely make it past age 50 without medical intervention. He didn't have an answer for what we have but he did rule out Marfan. You mentioned that your family are long lived so maybe you can worry less about Marfan.
  12. They used to accept the discount code HOME for homeschoolers. I'm not sure if it is still valid. Also, sign up on their website to get emails with coupons. They send them out fairly regularly. Have fun!
  13. I freeze them too! We use them in banana french toast. I put the egg/milk mixture in the blender with a frozen banana or two and some cinnamon. So good!
