  1. Today was awful. Dh stayed home though and got things cracking. We have those huge fans all over the basement and one in the kitchen behind the (now) pulled out fridge. Apparently it was a slow leak where a lot of water sat until it became a flood. Had to have water off for a chunk of the day. Been eating out for everything. The laminate flooring in the finished basement was ruined. They found mold (but I don't think it was the evil black mold - just mold). So dh was a total sweetheart and he's lined up painters and dry wallers and he dealt with the workmen and he's ordered new stuff to replace old stuff and the water is back on! The house is a wreck! Hardly anything got done school wise though.
  2. My dishwasher leak turned into a colossal flood. This morning I am expecting the return of the plumber as well as a flood damage company. Had to cancel the meeting at my parish's environmental group. Boo hoo. I haven't made it to one of thse meeting in three months because something or other comes up! Today - wash dishes some place other than the kitchen sink. Hang around talking to work guys trying to fix my house Get ds to his math class Remember to mail check Dd needs to do history and literature Dd to voice lessons I need to plan, plan, plan for Latin and history at co-op tomorrow What's for dinner? Don't know - but it has to been anti-inflammatory! Call P. tonight about sign up genius and bulletin announcement for hypothermia shelter (forgot to do this last night, grrr)
  3. Already done: called plumber - dishwasher started leaking last night. I think the sink is backed up somehow. Flood in basement. Boo hoo! Get someone else to drive dd to her various classes today while I wait for plumber Plan for co-op classes - lots to do there Clean something (maybe master bathroom?) Make dinner - perhaps salmon hash (canned salmon potatoes and other foods in hash). Take dd to youth group tonight.
  4. Wow! Thanks so much everyone! I will check out these resources! I really appreciate it. I'm going to take time today to go through all these suggestions. I have to do it sooner rather than later because I have no idea what's for dinner tonight!
  5. My dd just got put on this diet a couple of weeks ago. She'd been gf for a couple of months but now they upped it to dairy and soy free as well. I have pretty much dropped everything else and am just trying to find foods that work that don't create too much conflict in the family! An impossible task for my particularly lovable but dysfunctional family. LOL. Anyway, I am on the look out for recommendations anybody might have. Even if you have a recipe that you love that works. I need to build up a good repertoire of meals so I don't have to think so hard about it all the time. I feel burn out looming. . . . . Thanks!
  6. Update: I was wrong about our AHG meeting. That's next Monday! And it turns out there really isn't anything dd can eat at Silver Diner - so we just came home and made something. Picked up my son from school and bought super expensive raw dog food for my dog. Came home, took a nap, finished reading my novel. Being super lazy . . . I did clean the kitchen a bit and nag my dd to do her math and geography homework!
  7. Good morning! Drs appt for dd @ 9:30 Maybe breakfast at Silver Diner (she's on restricted diet and they have food there she can eat and it's on the way home!) Home again - make 16 yo do math and geography Do quick grocery/pet store run P/u college student from school Plan for AHG meeting Figure out dinner AHG meeting Home again - dinner and watch 2 yo for his mom while she goes to class
  8. Hello fellow readers! I finished up Elizabeth Gaskell's Sylvia's Lovers. It was good, but not my favorite. I wrote a review at my blog. I am still slowly, slowly, slowly reading Apologia Pro Vita Sua; that's my morning meditation reading so i only read little bits at a time. The funny thing is that is corresponds with the history I am teaching at the co-op so I'm rather fascinated by Newman's perspective. He lived in a bubble it seems and so far anyway doesn't talk about all the unrest going on. I'm excited to be listening to The Brothers Karamazov on audio on my phone using the LIbrivox recording which so far is quite good. I'm in the 2nd book where the Elder is meeting with Aloysha's (sp?) family. i am really enjoying it in a way I did not when I last attempted to read it (instead of listen to it. I gave up half way through.) But this time, I am getting some references, again because of the European history course I am teaching. I'm also rereading a Georgette Heyer novel, one of my favorites, Sylvester or the Wicked Uncle. Lots of fun to read on this gray, rainy, February Sunday. Happy reading!
  9. I love this idea! My county has 26 parks. Some we've been to numerous times and others I've never even heard of! I'm game!

Already done: made gluten, dairy, soy free banana chocolate muffins for breakfast, fed pets To do: Get dressed Go to church Breakfast at home: muffins, sausage and eggs Brush dog Plan garden make bbq chicken for dinner take ds to work watch/don't watch superbowl Read - maybe The Odyssey with 16 yo (the plan was to finish it by the end of Jan. but we are just 1/2 through it!) Have a happy Sunday!
  11. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help!
  12. Anybody do this for their pets? I've got an old sick cat and a middle aged dog with issues. My dog had skin issues for ages which I finally resolved on my own by starting to feed her grain free food. Doing research I'm finding that many of the issues my pets have (thyroid, kidney, bowel problems, etc) could be due to diet. I've been looking a bit into raw diets. I'm too overwhelmed at the moment to really jump into making my own. Is it worth the money to buy commercial? I mean I'm paying the vet through the nose anyway . . .. . What say you? Thanks!
  13. Not a great reading week for me. I did finish Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson. I'm working my way through Sylvia's Lovers by Elizabeth Gaskell. It's got lots of dialect in it, so it makes for slower reading. And I'm reading it at night, so my eyelids keep shutting before I've read very many pages. However, I am loving it! I've started reading Apologia Pro Vita Sua by John Henry Newman as my morning short meditation reading. At this rate, it will take me forever, but it's very interesting in that it opens with his letters to Charles Kingsley (Victorian author who wrote The Water Babies and Madam How and Lady Why among many others). claiming he slandered Newman. I've just started it so I can't report much yet. I have a very old copy of Apologia Pro Vita Sua of my grandfather's and Tip O'Neill (anyone here remember him?) signed the book for my grandfather! So cool.
  14. tcb, was your dd's dual enrollment through your local community college or state virtual school? Or was it a program anyone can enroll in? Thanks so much.
  15. My 16 yo dd wanted to study Environmental Science for her 11th grade. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and we are having a devil of a time trying to get her on an even keel. She is responding to medication very, very slowly. Anyway, she is suffering depression, anxiety, brain fog, terrible fatigue, etc. She just couldn't do a full load of courses this year. So science got dropped. We are hoping that as she gets better she'll be able to do a summer course. But where? I just am not good at doing science at home so we've always farmed it out. In fact in 12th grade she plans to take physics with our local high school co-op. But she's interested in environmental science and really wanted to study that too. Anybody know of something that fits our criteria? Can be done over the summer and is on line? Thanks for any input!
  16. Hello fellow readers! Long time no see! I started off last year really going for the bingo challenge but I wimped out half way. .. . I just am not that good at challenges. Anyway, it took me over a year but I finished City of God by Augustine! Woot! And I just finished Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell. An accidental reread (forgot I had read it before!) But an excellent novel. I loved it (again.) Now I've started on Sylvia's Lovers also by Gaskell. I'm also reading Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson And The Odyssey (Lattimore) with my 11th grader.
