  1. I love both names, but not together. How about Silas & Elijah? I think our twins are going to be Seth & Elijah (Eli). Dh wouldn't go for Silas, even though it was one of my picks.
  2. We recently got a nice microscope for her to use in her biology class, and she is loving it. I'm wondering if there are any cool slide sets or accessories that she might like to go with it. ??
  3. :grouphug: I can see how that would be very frustrating. My 10yr old has absence seizures & we switched neurologists a couple of years ago. I'm not sure what to tell you regarding switching your dd's neuro, but did want to offer my sympathy.
  4. Not sure yet, but my 13 & 15 year old dds have asked for chickens for christmas.
  5. We're in the process of switching to a ped that is closer to home. I requested our kids' medical records from our old ped, and to get copies, it is going to cost us over $70. Do I really need all the records or are the vaccination records enough? Those are either free or significantly cheaper, I can't remember which...
  6. Just wanted to offer more :grouphug: :grouphug: . My 13yr old was diagnosed when she was 9. Those first several weeks were so hard - there was so much to learn & it was all so terrifying! She didn't get a pump until about 2 years ago, and that was another huge thing to learn, but it has been WELL worth it! In the beginning, I got a lot of help from childrenwithdiabetes.com. We were also in touch with our endo every single day for the first few weeks. Now, my dd handles it all like a champ - it is second nature.
  7. We're part of a church like this now, and I am so grateful for it!
  8. My 15year old is pleading to get to be there for the delivery of our twins. I can't believe I am even remotely close to considering this, but still... there are so many unknowns. Most of which are because we're having twins & chances are I could have a c-section and then what if something were to go wrong? Dd is very responsible and is not easily grossed out at all. (She's butchered/processed chickens before.) I'm a very modest person, except for those few hours of birth, then I could care less who sees what. She would not be freaked by that either. She's also very interested in biology (which she is studying this year). Any thoughts? Experience?
  9. Good point. My 8 quart soup pot seems like it would be a better size. Hmmm....
  10. I'm preggo w/twins right now, but as soon as these guys are born & my milk supply is relatively stable, I'm hitting the driveway. I even have a nice double jogging stroller awaiting us! Can't wait! Keep up the running talk so I'll stay motivated. :D
  11. bumping in case any of the evening crowd has an answer :D
  12. We will soon have 10 people in 2000 square feet, plus an 11th who stays with us on weekends. We don't have a lot of excess belongings (i.e. toys), so that helps keep the cluttered feeling to a minimum. I can't stand clutter - I'm even looking forward to putting the Christmas tree away to have the open space again. We don't have a lot of storage or closet space, so we've had to be really creative with building shelves & cabinets, etc... Personally, I'd rather have it a *little* cramped than take on a bigger house payment. Plus, we'll be done paying for this one in three years. Woohoo!
  13. What size is best size for a family of 8-10? Would 8 quarts be big enough? Where can I find one for the least $? Thanks!
  14. I don't have a grinder. Would a food processor work? Wouldn't I need to add some fat to it?
  15. My guys got a deer this afternoon. Any tips for preparing it? I don't know what piece is what - there are just chunks of meat in the cooler. Thanks!
  16. Eat a candy cane. Make homemade hot chocolate. (My kids love the activities that involve sugar!) :)
  17. How I wish my hubby could take over some of our subjects! He's a naturally gifted teacher & very smart to boot! Unfortunately, his job keeps him pretty swamped.
  18. Yes, it would have bothered me! With our dentist, I can stay in the room for normal cleanings, fillings, etc... The only times I have been asked to leave were when one of my dds was little and was having the little piece of skin b/w her lip & gums snipped & stitched. They explained that the blood from that procedure sometimes freaks out the parents. The other time was when my ds was little and had root canals. But the rooms were very open (no doors), and I felt comfortable about it.
  19. You posted while I was writing my other post. I think this kinda answers my question.
  20. So now I'm curious about other math programs... Are my kids learning in 7th grade what others learned in 6th? I feel like Abeka is fairly rigorous in math. I wonder if they could skip what is taught in 7th and go directly to pre-algebra? I have two boys in 6th grade. One has learning difficulties, so we switched him to Teaching Textbooks 6. It is significantly easier than my other son's Abeka 6. Maybe I need to compare the scope & sequence. I'm not sure if I'm really asking a question, but rather am thinking aloud.
