  1. I've also been slow and the uptake. You know the one many larger families have, kids can work. :) I had regular chores as a child. A while back I decided I could operate differently. The kids are doing more and more. The more they are used to it, the faster it gets. My ds operates better with a regular list and some extras. I would keep at it. You have to do this together to get things done. I wouldn't worry about your initial coping mechanisms. Fall is a good time to put a schedule together. Good luck with the growing boy. :) I'm still there with you.
  2. Our orthodontist told us that if they need to come out it is better to do before they grow a full root. I would see your dentist.
  3. My dd took a Spanish course at a local private university during her freshman year. She did very well but found that a lot was expected of the students in this class and she needed to study more than she had been at home.
  4. This is a fairly common drug someone must have taken it. I'm so sorry for all you are going through!
  5. I was pregnant. You could try that option. :D Really the 40s are great!
  6. I've quit giving out ssn since the encouragement on the board. Thanks everyone for sharing this info.
  7. I haven't been in your situation but I do remember kindergarten with my dd. She thrived but was tired and mean to her brother. I kept them at the school yard to play outside for an hour, then it was homework, dinner and bed. I felt like I didn't get any of her good hours. We started to homeschool in second grade. I don't think you could do much other school work with her. I think I would wait. She's only five. Maybe a preschool half day program if you want her to have a different experience. I wish you well in this difficult decision.
  8. It's a good thing I don't wait to pray until I'm on the treadmill! :D Hang in there. God must have given you a lot of energy.
  9. Thanks for sharing your pictures! I think it's time to get over the border and go to IKEA!
  10. I've known people who've learned with their children. They need a structured curriculum but all in all I think it worked. Often how well you do in school has to do with the learning that goes on at home.
  11. A simple will is not expensive. It is important or your relatives could be fighting for your children.
  12. We used the first one along with Ancient History. Ds read it on his own and did the lab book. Dd would prefer for me to read it to her. Yes, I have my ways to make her enjoy science. :) They will be in 8th and 10th grade.
  13. We've never used them but friends have and they don't have any complaints.
  14. When they come home just make their favorite foods. :)
  15. Once he tests again he will move into another area of competition. That's why they don't move to quickly through the testing. Coaches and clubs vary widely in their approach to skating. You need someone you can talk with easily and trust your child with for vast amounts of time. I would see what your coach has done with other skaters. A large part of the whole picture is what your family wants to do re time, money and travel.
  16. And the keys, cell phones, garage door openers...
  17. Add in Shawn, my younger brother. Mrs. MacGyver, we are also in upstate NY.
  18. I never am never sure so I don't talk to anyone. It sounds like a lot of info to be asking.
  19. Picking chiropractors can be tricky! He could still turn himself. I would talk to your doctor.
  20. You can't top that for sweet 16. Congratulations and Happy Birthday!:party:
  21. We use the Abeka grammar, not much of the writing. The children do usually every other problem. It's worked fine for us from elementary into high school.
  22. Let's see time for a few games of solitaire, reading a magazine, the Bible, ... mine doesn't get distracted by what I am doing as I sit there but if anyone else walks in the room it's all over. I've started having him do a couple of problems and then check in. That seems to help.
