I LOVE Jane Eyre! It's one of my most favorite novels ever and I've read it several times. Jane is the heroine I identify with most.

Yes! Our whole family has read at least the first book, and older ds and I have read all three. It gets even better! My DH is not a reader. (Well, he reads tech magazines, but that's it.) Last summer we spent a week at our friend's cabin and had no tv or internet, and I brought that book along to read. DH picked it up and stayed up ALL night reading it. I was so shocked! I kept getting up all night to see where he was in the book. lol We're all torn about the movie. We're excited about it, but worried it will not hold up.

Ugh, Wuthering Heights was brutal for me to read. It sucked the joy out of my soul. But I could not just leave it. I had to finish it. I was compelled. But I heaved and sighed in frustration all the way through. I typically enjoy re-reading books and have read my favorites several times. But I will never read WH again. I couldn't stand any of the characters (except for maybe Edgar, just a little, maybe...and Ellen Dean.) I watched the Masterpiece Classic version on Netflix instant watch and was underwhelmed. I think if anyone could ever really capture WH as Bronte conceived it, it would make a fabulous movie, but would still be tortuous.

Alright, I guess I have to chime in now too since I have a cute, teeny tiny little post count. But I do have an avatar picture and a blog, and I have been registered here for a few years (though I lurked for a while before that), I just don't post much. I was very active on another forum and met several people from that forum. Some of the folks I have met are on this forum as well. I came here originally (in 2008) to buy and sell curriculum, and most of my posts were a result of trying to get my post count high enough to do so. I have never worried that anyone might consider me a troll because I post here so rarely, most of you don't know I exist! But because of this thread I looked back at my posts to see if any of them could be suspicious, and was surprised to see that the very first thread I ever commented on was about s@x! Ha! What was I thinking? I'm lucky no one called me out as a troll! I do come here and read quite a bit when I have time, and when I saw CarolfromIL post about the taxi situation, I was incredulous and wondered if her account got hacked. I didn't immediately think "troll". I was confused because she had posted in the Murdoch thread about how well her family and her neighbors were doing and that the economy wasn't that bad, but here she was saying she needed to bring in more income. Then I remembered that she had also posted about how their pastor wanted to charge them back tithes, and she said she was raised not to question authority, and just sounded vulnerable and maybe a little unbalanced. That's when it clicked that "she" had to be someone poking fun at homeschoolers and religious people in general. I searched her past posts and saw some snarky things she said that were obvious (now) pokes in which she tried to sound sincere but was really pot stirring. Bizarre. Anyway, all that to say that I won't worry about people thinking I'm a troll. I don't think anyone should worry about that. As long as you're not dropping bombs and generally making a nuisance of yourself, just remember that most of us are more worried about how we're perceived ourselves. Same as in everyday life, really.

Our life is what some would call boring, but we think of it as peaceful. We are all just laid back. My mom's side of the family is full of drama, but we just stay on the fringes and don't get involved. I gravitate away from chaos and drama, though I don't mind debate online on occasion and have pretty thick skin.

I just found this post and wanted to bump it hoping this is followed up in some way. My 15 yr old son has OCD, diagnosed when he was 12. I actually have written pretty extensively about it on my blog if anyone is interested in reading about it. I do have a few adult friends with OCD; one manages without meds and is a 1st grade teacher, another takes meds and just got his masters degree and is now student-teaching high school History. I have a friend who is a forensic scientist and he said a large percentage of the doctors and scientists he works with have OCD, and they look at it as mostly a bonus since it helps them achieve success. I found that interesting.

Wow, thanks, Jessica! That is very helpful, but I think I'm just going to do an all-over color without going the highlight route. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to attempt the cap, but not yet! I'd like to do an all over color to match my own color, then when I'm comfy with that, I might do highlights. Thanks for the response!

So I've been getting my hair professionally highlighted at the salon, but we really can no longer afford my keeping that up. My roots have grown out about an inch or more and I now resemble a reverse skunk. :glare: I've been considering buying box color and just going back to my original color gradually. What say you? Have any of you done this with good results? My original color is sort of a dark ashy blonde. When I was young I was nicknamed "Silver" by some classmates. My salon color is a much lighter blonde, and unfortunately my latest session with a new stylist borders on streetwalker blonde. Sigh. Thoughts? :bigear:

"Who do you know or have met?" I went to High School with PGA golfers Heath Slocum and Boo Weekly. Heath was in my church youth group and my best friend had a crush on him for a long time. Boo was in my science class and he liked me and asked me to "go with him" when I was a junior in HS, but I turned him down! Then his ex-girlfriend threatened to beat me up when she found out, and then they eventually got back together. She's not who he's married to now, though. Another PGA golfer, Bubba Watson, is from this same town and went to our high school, but he's several years younger. (It's amazing to think that our small-town high school has produced 3 pro golfers!) Hmmm...what else? I'm somehow related to the Tin Man, Jack Haley...distant cousins somehow. But that's a stretch. Never met him, obviously. These posts have all been fascinating to read!

I was thinking maybe he was copying all the beeps the cash registers make?

I love SpongeBob! Sometimes I wonder if I should feel bad, though, for letting my kids watch him. I meet so many parents who don't allow their kids to watch. Why? Is he bad? I think the show is hilarious! Am I a horrible parent for letting my kids watch? (Well, we don't have cab;e or tv reception anymore, so they don't watch him now, but we would if we could...)

I am flat-footed, and my son inherited this condition. I didn't know there was a surgery for it! I would never consider it, though. I've tried many types of inserts and they all hurt. My son hasn't noticed any pain or problems from his flat feet. I feel self-conscious about it sometimes. I feel like I walk and stand funny...knock-kneed.

We have not found citronella candles to be effective. Nor tiki torches. But we always use them anyway.

Ugh...I'm not a VBS fan. I'm so glad our church doesn't do VBS anymore. There are tons of churches in our area that do, though. Hope your week goes well!

I hope I didn't add to your panic! I should have said that you don't have to be so anxious about high school. Really, the kids tend to take on some of that worry themselves, and begin being responsible for their own education. Just that fact alone eases the stress... Plus knowing you're doing what's best for your family.
