  1. I'm sorry, I can't answer your question about Times Tales, but I can recommend Professor B. Mathematics for remedial. My daughter struggled so much in math with her disability, and only after using this program was she able to remember things. (It helped me too). Please look it up on-line if you want more info. Good luck!
  2. I've unfortunately never seen LOF, but I have used Professor B. I highly recommend the first three Prof. B. books (Books 1, 2,and 3), which are the lower-level books for first-time learning or remedial fractions/decimals/ and percents. In my opinion, if you have a child who is seriously math challenged (and I mean 'seriously': My daughter had a learning disability with math, if a three-inch stack of practice sheets still leaving her unable to do basic adding and subtracting by grade 5, and the Key-to Books being a complete disaster is any indication...) then there is no better program out there. It is also a great foundation for the non-math challenged child - it certainly was for my second dc who is now getting 90's in upper-level maths. But...I don't recommend the algebra books. They just don't work nearly as well or nearly as brilliantly as the primary program. I did like the introduction to algebra part, however. Actually, LOF looks interesting...is anyone out there still using Math-U-See anymore? I remember thinking that it looked pretty nice (years ago).
  3. I used the TM's for the grade 9 and 10 text. Yes, they are a little overkill if you use them as they are designed. I didn't. I appreciated the colour-coded highlights in the text, pointing out the various literary marks being used. Often, we just read parts of the commentary together, and always, we enjoyed the stories. They were great bonding times.
  4. Fraction, decimals, and percentages are covered expertly in Professor B. Mathematics. My dd struggled with all other programs, even the KEY to series, but this fit the bill. Good luck.
  5. Ha. Great! Nice to be back. Lori, sounds like everything is going great for you all. I appreciate all the advice. I am feeling just a little better today as she's found a study group in her class and also spent a lot of time with the teacher today. Amazing how they pick up when they really have to (remember my dd did the whole Professor B thing). In October, she starts a two-year program at another college (cardiology technology), but she 'has' to graduate first in order to qualify for her scholarship funds. Take care! (Gee, does Stacey (from Ont.) still lurk these boards?)
  6. Thanks all. I guess I'll have to encourage her that way (oh, but that salesman for the videos keeps calling me as well...)
  7. Hi Lori! Are you the same LoriM from long ago? Seems so long ago I was always on these boards. Now my dd is taking her last course towards her AArts. Yes, she does have access to a math centre at the college, but she would practically have to live there (she doesn't, she lives about a 30 min. drive away). The problem is, she feels really dumb asking the same questions over and over, and her teacher, who is also there, makes her feel like she should know the stuff already (since he taught it already...). It's all so complicated and she needs lots of review as she goes along as well as exercises. She says she's not being given many exercises to practice the concepts, and the textbook is too simplistic. Gosh, I don't even know what I'm looking at when she shows me - and this course is supposed to be geared to non-math students. Other tutors? Well...I'd have to do my research.... I guess I was hoping that at least those videos might give just the extra support she needs, but they are a lot of $ and I know little about them.
  8. Hi guys! My daughter is greatly struggling through her probability and statistics college course. We've looked at help books: Shaum's outlines and the Dummies book, and we're also considering the Math Made Easy DVD's. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? (or any other advice?) Yikes! (I think she is failing at this point!)
