  1. Relax, people! I will not be using this song (or any other song for that matter), so nothing you've said here will actually be in my paper.
  2. I appreciate your concern. However, I am not asking the board to write my thesis or my paper, merely looking for interpretations of the song. For example, I had no idea that Norman referred to an Alfred Hitchcock movie until someone pointed it out. I had no idea about the singer's mother's illness. Those are the things I needed help with, since they certainly change the "meaning" that I saw in the song. I am glad I asked. The opinions expressed in the thread helped me see that there was much more involved than I originally thought, and that it may be best to address violence against women using a different example (not a song at all). I appreciate the conversation.
  3. I am writing a research paper for a communication class. I am analyzing a gender artifact and have decided to do it on "Kill you" by Eminem. Just so you know, this is the first time I have listened to this "artist" and don't ever intend to do it again after this assignment. My goal is to prove that this song encourages violence against women. I need three separate statements that can be made about the song by answering the questions: What does this song communicate? How does this song communicate? Any and all thought will be greatly appreciated! ********
  4. Update, in case anyone is just dying to know what I have chosen  My artifact is an Eminem song and I will write about how songs like it promote violence against women. Thanks for all the other suggestions. I can use them for the next project.
  5. I know just the person you need! Brandy does absolutely beautiful work. You can contact her through FB https://www.facebook.com/ThePrudentHomemaker
  6. Try MarieClaire's, if you want something under $10. But you can also have non-prescription lenses made everywhere glasses are sold for more money and have a choice of fashionable frames.
  7. What makes me angry? Violence against women, i.e. rap* and f*g*m*, but while searching online I came a across an academic paper about female to male rap* that was interesting, and I don't mean in an entertaining kind of way, just that I had not considered it before.
  8. I don't think I can use this for my research paper, but I can and will use it for another project, so THANKS!
  9. Please explain what you mean; it sounds interesting.
  10. Unfortunately, I can't do that one for several reasons: the sample paper provided by the professor was about that and I already wrote a paper on that topic for a previous assignment in the same class. So, yes, that's what I mean by looking for something unique. Thanks for trying to help!
  11. I need to write a 10 page research paper on a gender artifact (object, jewelry, picture, speech, advertisement, text, icon, symbol, movement, theory, etc. which expresses gender or gender inequality). I need something that makes me angry, not something that I approve of, and I need to write about how and what the artifact communicates. I'd like something interesting, unique maybe. Any ideas?
  12. I don't know about ads in cultures that admire big women--that has not been discussed and is not in these articles. The culture we have been mostly discussing is U.S, but even then the emphasis has been on the relationship between body and gender identity i.e. women having typically feminine bodies vs. masculine femininity.
  13. I don't really understand what my professor is asking here. Will you please help me make sense of it? Thanks. PS. The articles I am to reference are about the role in media in constructing the ideal female and male body. Option 2: Using at least one of the readings (Dworkin and Bordo) discuss how the body itself relates to identity, culture, and/or gender identity. You may use the Wood book (see the nonverbal section) iin addition to the outside reading(s). Please reflect on the implications of these concepts as they relate to culture at large or in your own personal experience of identity and your body. Include citations for ideas that you take from course readings, use appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Please use MLA style of documentation.
  14. How am I saving money with the NACD? Let see: From the original poster: "So, for now, we are paying $520 per month for therapy and another $480 in gas." It looks like she pays about $6240 a year for language therapy, plus gas $480. She is trying to add OT on top of that, which let's say is also $65 per session or $6240 per year. So right there that looks like $13,000 to me. For the NACD you pay $950 (currently $500 off if you have financial need) for the initial evaluation, then $232 per month. So the first year with the NACD is $3284, the second $2784. Is this not significantly less then $13000? Earlier this year I was getting tired of working with my son on his /R/, so I decided to take him to a non-NACD speech therapist. They charged me $59.57 for a 30 min. session and told me that this was the last month they were doing half hours. The hourly fee was going to be $110. So that would be $440 monthly, $5280 yearly. I was prepared to pay that kind of money until I saw that what the professional therapist was doing was EXACTLY what the NACD had trained me to do at home with him, for less money. I've heard the "research based" argument before, unfortunately, I can't address it. I would suggest to the original poster to call the NACD and talk with Sara or Bob. I can say though, that after taking an university class last spring on positive methods in child development I am amazed with what passes as research. If you understand a little bit of the NACD philosophy, you would see why they don't recommend drugs for ADHD. From what I understand, no one is being "cured" from ADHD/ADD with medication, just their symptoms are being managed to some degree. However, I do know people personally whose kids have been officially diagnosed with ADHD who have eliminated the symptoms, not just masked them, with the help of the NACD. Anyway, good luck to all of you with whatever you are dealing with!
