  1. Also check out http://www.superteacherworksheets.com/ Its all free to print up and there is a handwriting section with cursive. The drawback to this one is they only have the one style to choose from, but they have tons of other math, language arts, etc....
  2. That is extremely mean. Having been in both the working mother position and the stay at home position, I know how both sides of the coin works. We all try to make the best decisions we can for our family and it is not for anyone to tell us we have made a wrong one about our own lives and family of which they have no knowledge about. Shame on her. But what can one do but be thankful the we are better people then they.
  3. Also, it might help to put in your mind that this decision is reversible. Try it our for a year and if it doesn't work out like you and dc hoped you can pull them out chalk it up to on of those life experiences to be remembered. On the other hand if it does work out for the best, then go with it. We, as parents strive to make the best decisions we can with our children, while always putting their best interests at heart. Carry on with the knowledge that you have done exactly that.
  4. I like to wait till my DD17 (she's a senior) has just enough time to throw on her clothes and head out the door before I wake her. If she wants time to do all the primping and fluffing she feels is necessary, she can darn well get herself up earlier.
  5. I never have, however it does remind me of a friend of mine who would recruit all her friend, relative, and acquaintances who were traveling abroad to send her brother a letter or card from afar from a fictitious relative, just to hear him rant about this unknown person he keeps getting cards from all over the world...lol
  6. Is not our role as homeschooling parents to teach them how to teach themselves? After all we can't follow them around as adults still teaching them everything they need to know. Therefore I say: Success! :hurray:
  7. I second the WD-40, works great on wood and non porous plastic without stripping the paint. My son had decided at 4 that his wooden bed frame needed his name put on it in permanent marker. After making him scrub it for 10mins or so. My hubby came in with the WD-40 and it came right off. The upside is most homes already have WD-40 around somewhere. So definitely worth a try.
  8. Well, if its any consolation to you. I have given birth via both C-Section and natural and I can honestly say that C-Section was definitely and easier birth, and thats saying alot given that my C-Section was with twins. The recovery was a lot harder and longer, but the birth itself was much easier. Don't know if that helps or not, but I thought I would put it out there.
  9. I was just going to say, try switching diets. A low carb diet simply means a low sugar diet. Don’t let the term and the myths that abound about low carb fool you. All carbs are sugars of various types. The body will break down carbs of all kinds into simple sugar for digestion. It really does not differentiate between sugar from carbs and table sugar. The body treats it and absorbs it the same way. Also, meat has all the essential nutrients that you need all packed into one power house of a meal. Unlike carbs in the form of breads that more often then not have to be artificially supplemented with a few of the nutrients you need and is still not a complete balanced meal. Meats already has it all and its in its natural form. So if you think of the food pyramid. What it is actually suggesting is that you eat less of the essential nutrients and protein that a body needs for survival, and more sugar. Shocking, but true. And lets not forget that fat is not the villain that so many may believe it to be. It’s actually a very vital nutrient with tons of benefits, Including providing the building blocks for cell membranes and a variety of hormones and hormonelike substances. In addition, fat acts as a carrier for important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Without fat in your diet your body can’t absorb these vital nutrients it needs for optimal health. Dietary fats are needed for the conversion of carotene to vitamin A, for mineral absorption and for a host of other processes. The fats you want to stay away from are man altered fats such as trans fats, and those fats that have been subject to very high heat because those fats have had there long chain fatty acids damaged and the body does not know what to do with them besides pack them around your arteries and other various parts of your body.
  10. Hey Mimm, Thanks for replying to my questions. Lots of great information. You pretty much summed it up exactly in your post right after this. I'm curious how many adults who where homeschooled, now homeschool there kids and why. I don't want to make a decision for my children that they will regret, or wish i'd done otherwise later. Sigh, I guess there's really no answering that till the time comes.
  11. Well! Since you said I could. :D 1. What did you like most about being home-schooled? 2. What did you like least about it. 3. What do you think about the whole "but they are not being socialized," argument that I constantly hear popping up? Do you feel you missed out on a lot of socialization? 4 Do you home-school your children/child now? 5. If you do home-school, what curriculum do wish was available back then, that is available now? 6. Where you home-schooled singly or with siblings and if with siblings, how do you think they would answer these questions. 7. Do you feel like I'm hijacking this thread? (just kidding but I'll be happy to start a new thread if you feel like I'm way off subject here)
  12. This is an interesting question and one I was going to do a search on when I logged in. I was not home schooled, in fact my mother has tried to discourage me from this endeavor. While I was checking out books in the library (in new to this having only been homeschooling for two weeks now) about homeschooling, the librarian had told me that she was home-schooled. I had asked her if she was happy about that or if she wished she'd been allowed to go to public school. She told me she was happy about it, then added "for the most part." This, of course, got me wondering, as an adults perspective of having been there and done that, what she felt the downsides to homeschooling were. As parents I'd imagine all of you, like me, have chosen homeschooling because we feel this is the best thing for our children and our family. However, I've never met an adult that has been home-schooled and would really like to pick a few adult brains, on the pros and cons of homeschooling from someone that has been home-schooled.
  13. My all time favorite book. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. And Yes, I think everyone should have a Jamie in their lives. Sorry, new here. Have yet to introduce myself, but I just had to comment on this one. Love this book, and all the series that came after. This first one was the best in my opinion, but the others where great too. Oh! I also have to add: My mother once stood in line for a book signing that Diana was doing and when she got to front the she asked Diana if there was ever a movie made of the Outlander Series, what actor she felt would best portray Jamie, and Diana replied that there was not suitable actor out there. I think she is right.
