  1. Also, another IMPORTANT consideration - be sure to check with your homeowner's insurance company before signing a contract.....my family lives down where Ivan hit, and the insurance companies will not even provide insurance for home purchases south of a certain geographical cutoff point. Even north of the cutoff, premiums are extremely elevated up to yet another geographic boundary. This may or may not be an issue where you are looking, but better to be safe than sorry!
  2. This was the FIRST thing that jumped out at me when I read this article, too. Wonder how THIS guy leans on homeschooling......LOL
  3. It was free to join, and I used one of their discounts at Write@Home for ds last year......it sure came in handy! :)
  4. If you already have a Yahoo email address (or sign up for one for free), your email page has a "calendar" tab at the top. Just click on it, enter your event details and set it to "remind" you via email however many days in advance you'd prefer.......I love mine, it's how I remember to send in my homeschool attendance to the county! :)
  5. LOL Hopefully you won't have to start training her.... "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain"...... :D
  6. My dd did that for a short time when she was small (I'd say she was about 5 or 6 yrs old), and when we finally questioned her about it she corrected us: she was TRYING to have an AUSTRALIAN accent!!! (Duh, mom!) LOL We are southern as well, and she loved to watch the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin back then......... :)
  7. I have also read that some people use pantyhose cut into strips, or the little clips that attach Christmas lights to vinyl siding.......I use the clips, but I am attaching roses to a chainlink fence which is easy to clip them to - not sure how they would work with a trellis depending on how thick the supports are......
  8. Melinda, regular mineral foundation can be used a concealer as well. However, when I get a large blemish it tends to leave a small, red scar for MONTHS before it goes away. If your scar ends up being red, I have found that Everyday Minerals (and probably the other brands as well) has a concealer that is green - yes, green! - that neutralizes the red appearance. It doesn't LOOK green when you put it on, just takes away the redness. I dab it on with a concealer brush, then apply my foundation. Voila! (My dd14 LOVES the green concealer for blemishes. At Everyday Minerals we just order it as part of our free sample kit when we order foundation, so we never have to pay for it!)
  9. I LOVE soy candles - the ones by Rada (raspberry lemonade, oatmeal cookie, apple pie, toasted hazelnut, pumpkin pie....mmmm!) and NV Candles (their Blueberry Muffin scent is great - hubby came in thought I was baking some! LOL) are favorites!
  10. :iagree: Plus, at least for dh, any small cost-of-living increases he gets are ALWAYS sucked up (and then some!) by the huge increases in his medical insurance premiums every year. Guess we could cut insurance out to pay for gas to actually get to work! I wonder if anyone here has joined a medical co-op in lieu of having insurance, and how it has worked out.....I have looked at those, but not seriously......
  11. and I recommend mineral makeup as well - it's so much easier and faster to apply than regular foundation. It's applied like a powder. Dd and I have a favorite - it's Everyday Minerals at https://www.everydayminerals.com/index.php?&vmcchk=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=32 . I find I like EDM as well as more expensive mineral brands - their prices are reasonable, the full size pots last a good while, they have a couple of different formulas for different skin types, they have a sampler you can get to try their shades before purchasing the full-size product, and they have a LOT of shades to choose from. This is especially important for us since dd 14 has an olive-toned, but light, complexion. When she recently started wearing foundation we had a booger of a time finding a good match for her skin! She finally found one for fair Asian/Mediterranean complexions at EDM that matched. You can also order the free sampler kit with subsequent orders, which I now use to stock up on travel sizes. :) LOL
  12. We are having an informational meeting about possibly having one of these in our area, but I have no idea how they work, who would teach, etc. Does anyone have experience with this that they can share? Here's a link: www.classicalconversations.com
  13. I would like to know also, KidsInMind, ScreenIt, and Imdb don't have anything yet, either.......
  14. Of course we do! Hello?!? Cheese is like a million bucks a pound!! hehehe..... :) Not that it often lasts long enough at our house to get moldy......
  15. Ds LOVED this poem, and also "If", by Kipling....... :)
