  1. I remember that thread as well on the old forums. I'm curious to see what the answer is too!
  2. I hear ya, sister! My daughter asked me the other day while we were shoveling manure, " What would we do all day if we didn't have all this to take care of?" She meant it in a good way. I am trying to align my thinking with hers, although I could think of plenty of things I could be doing instead of mucking the barn!
  3. My daughter notices the shape of words. She always spelled "little" like "littel". Then she said she realized all the tall letters come first (the dot on the i makes it tall), and then the e at the end. She hasn't missed it since.
  4. Thanks, Pam! I love that idea. I really need to do that with my daughter. I start to notice which types of problems she misses, but this will help her pinpoint the problem and where to go back to to relearn it.
  5. I didn't have time to read all the posts, so this may have been mentioned before...our Little Gym has specials if you pay for more than one semester at a time. If you decide not to continue you get your money refunded. It ended up averaging out to $11 a session. That was closer to what the other gyms were charging. My daughter had a similar reaction to your son's. She loves her teachers and is willing to try things that she never would have before. It will be worth it and it will all work out!
  6. That's it! I am cracking up laughing--L, J, they're close, right?
  7. I found it when I was searching learning disabilities sites--I think. It was called Josh's Journal or some J name--I think. It was a checklist sort of book about what you needed to learn when in school--I think. Can you tell I'm a little sleep deprived? :) Thanks to anyone who might know what I'm talking about.
  8. I second the Peggy Kaye's Games for Math (and her writing book). Right Start is ok if you don't spend a fortune to get it, but you can do the same things with a few decks of cards.
  9. Wow, that is fantastic! No I won't have to add another workbook to the load.
  10. Thanks for your quick help! I may wait until I have some more to order from Rainbow so I can save on shipping. Or I'll look at my local teacher's store. Goo luck with your 24 games. Let us know what you think! Tricia
  11. It is a very straightforward simple approach. I rarely look at the teachers guide, I don't think it adds much more than the student pages have. If you don't want to copy pages them I would suggest the workbook. If your child likes things simple then they will like this. My daughter gets too distracted when there are too many pictures, ideas, fonts, etc. on a page. This is perfect for her.
  12. We could use some help on multiplication and division and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these. http://www.commonsensepress.com/mathpage.htm I could probably make some myself since the $7.50 price seems a little high for 35 cards. Thanks for any input.
  13. Ooh, I want one! We have hardwood, too, and I hate lugging out the big vacuum. I just wait until the tumbleweeds get big enough to pick them up by hand. Tricia
  14. We just switched from Singapore and Math Mammoth to Saxon 65. My dd loves it, and I am starting to see the beauty in it. I love having the word "incremental" to describe it! We will still supplement with Math Mammoth I am sure since she does not do well with fractions. Tricia
  15. I'm a licker, and my kiddo is too! You can use yogurt in place of eggs in chocolate chip cookies (probably in others too) if you are worried. I was told somehwere along the way that the salmonella was on the shell of the egg and got in the egg part when you cracked it, so if you washed them really good then you were ok. Please don't burst my bubble if you know otherwise :) Tricia
  16. We checked out a book from the library called "Games for Writing" by Peggy Kaye and got lots of ideas. It is geared for younger children but there are plenty that I used with my 11 year old. Tricia
  17. We are night owls here, too. My dd always does her best work around 8pm. The best way for me to work it, though, is to let her think she is getting a head start on the next day's lessons. Then she is more motivated for school work. Tricia
  18. These will be perfect for racing against dad during dinner :) Thanks! Tricia
  19. Thanks for reminding me to get out the MTM this year :) We've really liked the ones we've done. We did them with a small group. I haven't seen Atelier. I'm interested to hear if it's something I need :) Tricia
  20. We love the 10 Days games. You can read about them on Amazon. There are 10 Days in Europe, 10 Days in Asia, 10 Days in Africa, and I think a 10 Days in the USA. I'm not sure about a first grader playing, but maybe on a team with mom or dad it would work. Also Geopuzzles are good. Tricia
