  1. Can your doctor give you a peak flow meter so that you can get a more objective measure of how well she is breathing? Many years ago when our doctor wanted to put my asthmatic son on Singulair I was resistant as I didn't want him taking medication daily if he didn't really have to. She had me use the peak flow meter several times a day for a week or so without the medication and then take the same measurements for a period of time after starting the medication. the difference was dramatic enough to convince me to stick with the medicine. Prior to that "experiment", I hadn't thought he was realy having much issue with his breathing. All this to say, if you got used to using the peak flow meter it would give you a better idea of where she is at and when she really needs the inhaler. (My son is now 12, by the way, and can tell for himself when the inhaler is needed.) Elaine
  2. It seems like logic stage is the usual beginning of this process, but I guess it would vary from person to person. I have a distinctive memory of when I first asked the question "Is this true?" about the faith in which I was raised. I was 11. Now that I am in my early 40s, I notice that a lot of the people around me my age seem to be going through this process for a second time. Elaine
  3. Yes, I've been wondering about this, too! I hope someone has been able to take a look at it and give us a review. Elaine
  4. I've always been mostly a lurker, but I remember the old, old old board, too! I think that format inspired humor, for some reason, as it seems like I was always laughing out loud when reading the posts back then. I learned an awful lot from the ladies who were posting regularly at that time. Elaine
  5. Fun! I know some people I'd like to give this to for Christmas. :001_smile: Elaine
  6. I am so sorry!:grouphug: I am praying for you and your family. Elaine
  7. I vote for Serena Ann. Celeste Ann would also be beautiful. Are you looking for the "s" sound, or do you want the actual letter "s"? Elaine
  8. You can definitely eat the feet. Have you ever tried good dim sum? You can order yourself a little dish of chicken feet and try them. Not my favorite, but my husband likes them. Elaine
  9. No. I don't feel the need to make a public statement about my I.Q. I guess I don't see the point. Elaine
  10. My son has always done this since we adopted him at 13 months (now 5yo). He has gotten better over time, and I think for him it relates to his stress responses and felt need for control. Has your son been under a lot of stress? It sounds like this is a new thing for him, though, so I don't know if our experience is relevant to your situation. I guess in your situation I'd consult his pediatrician if the pattern continues for much longer, just to be safe. Elaine
  11. I think this is how I would say it, too. Adorable baby! :001_smile: Elaine
  12. an interesting and educational article. Thanks for posting! Elaine
  13. My daughter has been recently diagnosed with ADHD. I am in the process of reading the book Smart but Scattered, which I think will prove to be helpful for all of us. The psychologist also had a lot of recommendations for us which we are trying to implement. He encouraged us that homeschooling is probably the best situation for our dd, which has been helpful to me on those days I feel like giving up. :001_smile: Elaine
  14. My dd and her friends watched Ramona and Beezus at her 9th birthday party, and the girls all seemed to enjoy it. Elaine
  15. This looks interesting. Thanks! do your kids have any personal experience with this site? Elaine
  16. Thanks, ladies! I will pass these recommendation along. any other ideas? Elaine
  17. I have a friend whose 13yo dd loves to write fiction. She has talent and spends a lot of her free time on her stories, participates in NaNoWriMo, etc... She has started posting stuff on a fan fiction site, hoping to get reviews and find community. (She doesn't really have other friends her age nearby who share this interest). The fan fiction sites, though, are not really designed for young people, so she is encountering a lot of content inappropriate for her age. Are there any monitored sites geared toward younger people where she could participate? Her parents don't feel like they can let her continue where she is at but want to provide her with other options. Thanks for any recommendations you can pass along! Elaine
  18. Sorry, but the suggestion to "make a stink at the school" had me LOL in light of the topic under discussion. What is it with public schools and bathroom usage lately? It seems like we've uncovered a trend here. Don't they have more important things to worry about? Elaine
  19. This beautiful prayer is new to me, but I just prayed it for Jackie as well. :grouphug:
  20. We've adopted two stray cats. I think a lot of it depends on your cat's personality, so you will probably just have to let her work it out on her own timeline. Some cats are very aggressive and territorial, and if she is like that I agree with the PP that you might need to find a one pet home for her. The cage idea is a good one, giving them some time to get used to each other. Thanks for taking care of her! I hope it all works out well for you all.
  21. I don't get it. Does the stated intention of "Mix It Up Day" have anything to do sexual orientation? The link doesn't even explain what "Mix It Up Day" is. Elaine
  22. :grouphug: I hope you get some good answers soon. Elaine
  23. I hope this doesn't sound judgmental, because I don't mean it that way, but I did think while reading through that thread, "This would never fly if we were laughing about people who believe you shouldn't eat pork, for instance." I think sometimes we feel it is ok to make fun of religious or cultural beliefs we grew up with and have left behind in ways we would never make fun of other beliefs. I do think it is preferable to show respect for others in the midst of disagreement, even if one thinks that the other person's customs are ridiculous. And no, I didn't attach that tag to the other thread. :001_smile: Elaine
