  1. Why don't you want the Common Core edition? I've been looking at it as well and was wondering about the different Editions.
  2. Sorry about the delay happycc...just sent you a message with info. Good luck.
  3. Attuneup; inspired scholar; Athena's academy; Landry Academy
  4. I will send you my math tutor's info as a message... I was really interested in continuing Attuneup but we have a schedule conflict and are unavailable on Thursdays for their live classes. I like the feedback my daughter is getting from Amy, it is honing in on the skills we have to continue working on. Regarding Inspired Scholar, we are on week 2,and I like what I see so far. My dd had to turn in a summary about an author that they are reading. I'm interested in receiving the feedback. The class is small, 5 kids, so a lot of opportunities to engage. I am hopeful that we will get what we've been looking for in terms of an online lit/writing class. We've had lots of different experiences.
  5. Yes we are, however we just started Inspired Scholar last week so by the time they will be writing Attuneup will be over. My daughter has enjoyed all of the different writing assignments for Attuneup. We sort of outsource math with a tutor via Skype. She works with DD primarily on challenging word problems and intensive practice word problems from Singapore - and any other topic she needs extra help with, meaning anything else mom can't teach!! We used to work with Cybershala but had problems with several teachers. Our math tutor is excellent - very professional - dd enjoys working with her. We are also enjoying Uzzingo as a science supplement .
  6. I agree that outsourcing is a wonderful addition and resource, as long as it is the right class. Just as an FYI, We are beginning a new online class today by Inspired Scholar, Renee Metcalf is the instructor. We will be taking Literary Adventures which is a combination of literature and writing (writing from an IEW perspective). We are looking forward to it, hopefully a rich conversation about the literature. I like that there is a writing component to the books that the students will be reading.
  7. My 10 year old DD is loving this class as well. This is our first time taking a class with Attuneup and I like the structure and assignments. I agree that the poems are creative. The feedback received is also helpful and supportive. Since writing is done everyday my dd needs to be organized - it is really reinforcing and supporting her love for writing.
  8. Thank you sooo much OneStepAtATime - information is very thorough and very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to answer.
  9. Anybody with Landry experience willing to share???
  10. I'm looking for more of a challenging online environment for my dd. We've done Athena's and online g3 and they are okay, not very challenging though. I'm curious about Landry bc the courses are taught by people who specialize in the subject matter. If your dc have taken courses please share your thoughts. I'm really interested in their science courses. How religious is the environment?
  11. Thanks OneStepAtATime for the feedback. I'm on the fence since I don't have enough info so I'm going to pass on it this time around. Your feedback confirms my reservation, so thank you.
  12. Any PLATO followers? I'm looking to buy and would love some insight.
  13. Homebuyers co-op is featuring this program with what appears to be a great price - Can anybody share their experiences. For a kid who loves science and craves so much of it is this program worth it? Is it a challenging program that goes in depth in the topics? Is one program better than another , ie. life science vs chemistry vs biology? Any info is greatly appreciated.
  14. These sound wonderful! Thank you for posting about The Brain and The Gems guide on Learning about Learning, I am going to try them together. Yeah I am excited!
  15. We are using MCT vocabulary and she loves it, she keeps asking for other materials to keep increasing her vocabulary...I hadn't heard of sadlier oxford I'll research it ...I guess I'm looking for similarities to MCT. Thank you sooo much for the other resources, am unfamiliar with them.
  16. Thank you for your reply. My Dd is sooo bored with Wordly Wise..any other vocabulary curriculums out there?
  17. I've been thinking a lot about our curriculum choices and wondering what else is out there that will be a good match for my 10 y/o DD. Besides MCT, which we love, what other curriculum would you say is designed for gifted kids? Any subject recommendations would be appreciated.

  19. We used Cybershala for approximately 6 months and went through 3 different teachers. The owner is very receptive and a kind person, however her teachers were very unprofessional. The teachers were no shows, they didn't even send an email apologizing. One was a no show and then wrote two weeks later wondering about the assignment for class. It was so frustrating, esp for my dd who learned a valuable lesson about unprofessional behavior. It was too bad because it was relatively inexpensive. However, this negative exp turned positive because I researched online and found another math teacher whom we skype with and who teaches using singapore math. She works on Intensive Practice and Challenging Word Problems. My daughter loves her and she is very professional and has always been on time. Btw her fee is very reasonable, we work with her 2x per week. Let me know if you'd like her info.
