  1. I have used Sonlight, MFW and currently use HOD. I agree that Sonlight seemed more disorganized to me. I liked the grid layout of MFW but hated all the extras I needed to dig up to do it. I love HOD. It is very well organized. Everything i need is listed in the required materials. There is so much meat to it and it is such a beautiful CM based curriculum.
  2. Where is the group located? Could you give more info about how to find the group and join?
  3. We like Gluten Free Pantry Bread mixes. You can also buy their All Purpose Flour. http://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Pantry-Country-French-22-Ounce/dp/B000EVWQZW I make my own rice flour mix and make allot of the quick bread items from scratch. There is a huge learning curve when learning to bake with GF flours but the quick breads are easier. I am working on a recipe for GF bread from scratch. I'll post it on my blog once I perfect it. You can see my recipes at my blog http://quietlyrunningtherace.blogspot.com/
  4. We love this mix! I make it with honey and olive oil. http://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Pantry-Country-French-22-Ounce/dp/B000EVWQZW
  5. I make GF, CF, SF, pancakes 24 at a time and freeze them. I pop them in the microwave and give them to my ds with eggs. You can get my recipe at my blog http://quietlyrunningtherace.blogspot.com/ We do GL oatmeal with almond milk and maple syrup. We do lots of eggs and grits. I love the GL bread mix that I buy from Gluten Free Pantry http://www.amazon.com/Gluten-Free-Pantry-Country-French-22-Ounce/dp/B000EVWQZW. I make it with honey and olive oil. It has suggestions for modified ingredients on the box. We save the bread mostly for sandwiches. I bake a loaf. Cut it while still warm and freeze it with plastic between the slices. I then pop slices in the microwave to warm and soften them. I am working on making my own recipe for GL bread but haven't perfected it yet. I have other recipes at my blog you might check out too. I make GL, CF biscuits from scratch and ds has those with eggs. I also make rice waffles etc. Lots of options once you find a few good recipes. I freeze any GF baked goods right away if not eaten right after being made. I find they dry out really fast. We also do homemade protein bars (the recipe is here http://quietlyrunningtherace.blogspot.com/2010/07/mikey-he-likes-it-puffed-grain-bars.html ) and almond milk. But we don't have any nut allergies at our house. There are plenty of GF cereals that you can do, or you can make your own granola with GF oats. (I have a granola recipe I need to add to my blog) My ds eats GF cereal with almond milk. HTH Edie
  6. We found that our son's behavioral problems were directly related to his food sensitivities. He was skin tested and tested positive for a ton of things. Once we removed those foods, his behavior changed dramatically. We still have issues but they are much better. I cook GF, CF, SF etc for my ds and cook regular stuff for the rest of us. I watch carefully for cross contamination when I cook. But I can't afford to put our whole family of 5 on my ds's restricted diet. You can read about our journey at my blog http://quietlyrunningtherace.blogspot.com/. I also have recipes and shopping ideas there too. Edie
  7. you might try http://foodgawker.com/post/category/gluten-free/ http://gluten-freerecipes.blogspot.com/ http://www.livingwithout.com/topics/celiac_glutenfree.html We are GF, SF, CF, sugar free and bunch of other things. I have had success with using a rice flour mix, but not much success with almond flour or coconut flour. I have recipes posted at my allergy blog http://quietlyrunningtherace.blogspot.com/ I want to keep an eye on this post too. I have much to learn about cooking allergy free for my ds.
  8. We recently switched from MFW to HOD. We were using CTG from MFW. We have used MFW ADV, ECC and 19 weeks of CTG. We are using HOD PHFHG. I switched from MFW because I was feeling like I had to modify too much in CTG to fit my child's needs and keep it age appropriate. We loved ECC and ADV. I didn't have to change much for those years and used everything MFW recommended. We still use Singapore Math. I dropped SP when we switched to HOD since Spelling is included in the guide. I bought DITHOR used but have not started it yet. The TM are laid out differently, so it took me about a week to get used to the change. I wrote out a check list of subjects correlating to the box title in the HOD Guide and check that off each day instead of writing in my guide. I did like somethings about MFW more than HOD. But for now HOD is a better fit for us where we are. We may go back to MFW in the future. But that remains to be seen at this point. Feel free to email me if you would like about it.
