  1. I bought my son one a couple of years ago. I found it at Walmart for $25. I like it. It seems well-made. They didn't have much selection though, just this one. But we've been happy with it.
  2. I am using Adventures in Phonics B with my 6yo. The program is easy for him but he HATES all the writing. So I have started to do it all orally, having him spell words for me, etc. Is it bad that he isn't actually physically writing during his phonics lessons? He is almost finished WWE 1 so he does write at other times. AIP is just going so much better now that the pressure to write is gone. :bigear:
  3. He said he doesn't understand it and it makes him frustrated. I have been thinking about this all day trying to figure it out. I think that my son is not an auditory learner. Doing it out loud isn't working for him. I think I need to change *how* I do English with him. We need to sit down on the couch together with the book and he needs to either read it for himself or at least follow along as I read it. And I think if I add in some worksheets to reinforce the lesson, that will also help him. When I talked to him about doing it this way, he seemed to think it was a great idea and wanted to do English right now. Maybe he needs to "see" it more. I think he is very visual. So we are going to try that. Guess I made this thread for no reason. Oh well. Thanks for the response. :D
  4. I started my 3rd grade son on R&S English 3 this year. He hasn't really done much formal grammar at all, other than a brief stint with FLL 1 a couple years ago (which I sold because I didn't like it). We do everything orally, one lesson a day and it takes no time. At first he loved it because he didn't have to write :glare: and it was easy. We are now on lesson 34 and it's been going downhill for awhile now. Now he hates it and today he actually got a headache from it. I am trying to figure out what my options are. Just keep plugging along? Back up to R&S 2? Switch to something else? The only other thing I really want to consider using is FLL again. Is it gentler than R&S? And could I jump in with him at level 3 or should I back up? And if I use it through levels 3-4 could I go back to R&S in 5th? I need to have a long term plan. For the record we are using WWE 3 and it's great. I just need to figure out how to make grammar less like torture. Any help is appreciated.
