  1. I just finished reading the news about it. Absolutely devastating.
  2. I'm glad to hear that things are going well. The website looks GREAT!
  3. I tend to either match with the top OR with the shoes, if the beige is almost the exact same shade.
  4. Ree was who popped to my mind first when I read your message topic.
  5. I think it's something each of us needs to evaluate based on our needs & pocketbooks. I personally could not deal with not having my own vehicle. It's been 30+ years since we shared a vehicle, other than when one is in the shop. Dh works from home 3 days a week. There are commitments that I have that I'm not willing to give up on the days he goes to the office. Either volunteer or during certain parts of the year, work. It's what we need in our family. What you need is for you to figure out. Have you given up things that you'd really like to do & could with another vehicle?
  6. This was a difficult read, due to the subject matter. It took me a while to get into it. I finished for two reasons. One: It's what my book club is discussing this month. Two: I wanted to know what eventually happened to DoDo. I would rate it a 4 out 5 due to the hard topics that will lead to a good discussion.
  7. I use H&R Block. Ours aren't super complicated, but not simple either. The software walks me right through it, so I can't imagine paying someone else to do the same thing.
  8. Went to college in St. Mary's City. I've heard the Living Village is phenomenal. They were just starting to build it into more of a destination when I was finishing school.
  9. I would have no problem leaving a 12-year-old home alone.
  10. I'm currently reading "The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store" by James McBride. It touches hard subjects, like racism & bigotry towards Jews & people of color in the 1930s. It's fictional but uses historical information.
  11. THIS! We do not need an active shooter hearing phones buzzing or kids whispering to their parents. The last thing one should do is text someone who may be in a building with an active shooter. That's putting them at risk.
  12. Is any of it in writing as to reasons he was rated low? I'd try to get that. If the rater admits it was due to not being there, than go to HR for clarification to see if that is allowed. Also have previous evaluations on hand.
  13. How much noise do they make? My washer/dryer shares a wall with dh's office. I'd love to try these but I know dh won't tolerate banging around while he's working.
  14. We moved when my kids were 13 & 15. We left a good place for them & moved to a good place for them. It was good for them to experience another part of the country. And to not fear going somewhere new. It's important to get involved in social activities right away, especially if they aren't going to school. We have no regrets.
  15. Ulta because then she will be getting things that are truly for her and not your son.
  16. I'm about 25% through Oath & Honor by Liz Cheney. Excellent so far.
  17. Our mayor has said something similar, as did the local paper. I also think we're in the same neck of the woods, though.
  18. For birthdays and holidays, we spend roughly the same. They both have Amazon wish lists that we can refer to if we like. One has a partner. His stocking is similar in expense to our own kids, but less on actual gifts. His parents do about the same for our child. For the one with much greater financial needs, we help throughout the year. He lives with us, so that helps him a lot.
  19. His company should reimburse for expenses such as laundry. Have him find out how to expense those type of items. If he carries a company credit card, that will be easier. If he wants to see things on his time off, have him ask the hotel concierge to arrange tours. It's possible the hotel already does that & can get him in on one that is already planned.
  20. Same here. I was scared to open up the thread.
  21. We've done a few classes at Whole Foods. Dh loved them and I was along for the ride. It was fun & he learned a lot. We've been thinking about the classes that Dorothy Lane (local chain) offers.
  22. I don't think this is any different than other big events. Prices are usually much higher during major events.
