My DD has used MM 3-5 (and currently using 6). I feel that it is providing an excellent math education for her. The concepts are taught well, she understands what she's doing, and it is challenging. She has also done state testing for the past 2 years and has had great scores.
My next child has used 1st and is now on 2nd. We will continue with MM with her until the end of 6B as well. Both children will move onto pre-algebra after 6B.
I love MM.

So I plan to schedule in for our family 30 minute switches. I work with one child every 30 minutes, one child works independently and another child "works" with my son. I need to find activities that my other children can easily do with my son that will help him learn without making too much noise distracting the other kids. We tried the tot trays and such. Not going to work with him just yet. Not ready for that yet.
My daughter has really enjoyed the "What Your Preschooler Needs to Know" books. I bought the main book plus Activity Books 1 & 2 as she was requesting to have "lessons" like her siblings. It includes stories, sticker pages, color and shape work, retelling of stories with punch-outs, etc....

This next year for 6th grade:
WWS
GWG 6
Vocabulary Workshop (trying this for first time)
Read a bunch of books, do some kind of guide for a few of them

Aack! You know I just checked a couple of days ago, and didn't see it. Thanks for the heads-up.
You're welcome. :001_smile: My 10 year old LOVES Circumnavigated and is impatiently waiting for this one now.

I was hoping for a sequel.
Ask and you shall receive. ;)
The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There

History Odyssey has one for around $29 that includes all 4 years of the history cycle and stickers, but still leaves plenty of room for writing. Each timeline (ancients, middle ages, early modern and modern) is 5 feet long and can be put on the wall or hole punched to put in a binder. They are really sturdy and quite lovely. If you look at the link I listed, you can hover your mouse over the timelines to zoom in.
FWIW, we're using History Odyssey Ancients Level 2 with Human Odyssey.
I'll check this one out, as well as the one recommended by Momto2Cs (if I'm remembering the name correctly. Thanks to you both!

We tried RS4K first and didn't like it. Switched to RSO and my DD (9 at the time with tag-along 5 year old) really enjoyed it.
-
My DD will be using it this year (6th grade). I haven't picked all of the literature that we'll be using yet to go along with it, so I'm going to check out what others have posted so far.
We're also using Mapping the World by Art (McHenry), and I need to figure out what to do about a timeline as she really wants one.

I soooo hated Mr. Popper's penguins.
:iagree:
-
My Father's Dragon set
BFG (Dahl)
Wizard of Oz (currently in the middle of this one, but my kids are enjoying it)
(As a small side note, we just finished Mr. Popper's Penguins, and although my almost 7 year old liked it, I don't like the book at all - I wish I had never purchased it)
-
Do! Just start with the box and keep moving to the next lesson.
Well, I tried, but apparently I bought the 3 year one in December and received a code on my subscriptions page, but it's no longer there. I sent an email to HSBC so hopefully they can work it out for me.
My oldest loves to draw, so I'm sure she'll like it. Hopefully I'll be able to check it out tomorrow. I'm glad that you're liking it so much!
-
Ok, you've inspired me.
I bought Mark Kissler (sp?) from HSBC a month or 2 ago and still haven't even looked at it. I am going to go sign on right now and check it out so that I can get my kids started.
Congratulations to you, and thanks for the push I needed! :001_smile:

How about something like Moving Beyond the Page for your 9 year old? I haven't used or seen the whole curriculum in person, but my 10 year old did one of their literature units and really enjoyed it this year. We'll probably do more of their lit. units in the future based upon this experience. Just a thought for you.
If your 2nd grader is doing well with what you're currently using, I'd continue on with it since you already have it. Since you have a lot on your mind right now and you are trying to find something to work with the older one, I'd stick with what's working for the other just to make things easier on you. MCT will still be there the following year if you decide that you want to switch things up for her (and it is suggested for gifted 3rd graders, so waiting another year probably isn't a bad idea anyway).
So there are my thoughts. HTH.

My daughter read it this year (age 10) and really enjoyed it. It was an easy read for her, but we had some great discussions about the book that we wouldn't have had when she was younger.

We used 1A-4B and never had any trouble with the instructions. I felt like it taught the concepts very well.
:iagree:
We've used levels 1,3,4, & 5 (will be using 2 and 6 now) and I find the instructions to be thorough and complete.

All 3 of my kids have done 2 years of preschool (well, preschool and PreK). My third actually just finished her first year but will be returning next year. The program they attend(ed) was for 2 days/week, 2-2.5 hours/day, which has been perfect for us. With my first, it gave me some down time, and with my next 2, it gave me time to focus on lessons with the older kids. None of my kids have had problems transitioning to home only and it has been an overall positive experience for us in many ways. I'd do it again if I had more kids. Good luck with your decision!

Dd finished reading The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. I am about halfway through. .
:iagree: Another favorite here.

My almost 11 year old recently read Peter and the Starcatchers and is on the 2nd book now. She says that she really enjoys them, but I haven't personally read them.
I'm drawing a blank for what else right now. She's constantly reading and rereading books, so I'll try to come back later and add some more ideas.
Oh, and she is impatiently waiting for the sequel to The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairlyland to come out - she read that recently and loved it.
-
Wow! I'm impressed with your ideas!
We're going to spend much of the summer outside playing/swimming/etc., but one of the things that I've read about here that I'm going to try to do this summer is to have "Poetry and tea" once/week. I never seem to have time to incorporate it into our schedule, but if we like it I'll see if I can continue it next year as well.
I'd also like to start a family journal this summer and have everyone contribute weekly (or more often if they prefer).
That's about all I've got. :tongue_smilie:

Update to my plan:
MM 6
Exploration Education Physical Science, maybe add in some AHA science
Human Odyssey book 1 (K12)
Mapping the World with Art
WWS
GWG 6
Literature - pull from various things
Philosophy for Kids
Rosetta Stone Spanish
Dance, PE class, piano, etc....
My 6th grade year is still up in the air. Here's what I know and what I'm considering.MM 6
Lightning Lit. 7
GWG 6
Continue with Rosetta Stone Spanish
Science: Maybe Elemental Science Earth and Space for Logic Stage, maybe textbooks.....not sure at this point
History: Either Human Odyssey (K12) or HO Ancients 2
Logic: We did Nous this year and I'd love to continue with the next level, but it's pretty expensive - maybe Philosophy for Kids or something similar
Writing: unsure....maybe just continue as is writing across the curriculum as she's a strong writer. Maybe WWS or WWW.
Continue with piano, dance, and speech class (1X/month)
I felt much more confident in what I was doing last year at this time!

Hi,
I print most of the pages in black and white, but I do print some in color (like money pages). I just print small sections at a time, so I review what I'm printing first and make a decision from there. HTH
