  1. I think it is very weird and she needs therapy to help her deal with her anxiety.
  2. How do you react when he yells at you? I think it is entirely reasonable to expect a six year old to not yell AT his mother. Do you tolerate it? In the example you gave about breakfast, if my son yelled at me, his breakfast would be removed and his nose put in the corner until I saw a significant attitude change. No one yells at me. Period.
  3. I used bad ham lunch meat for our wraps today :( and now I am really stressing out that we are all about to have problems from it. I thought it was the most recently purchased bag of fresh deli meat, but instead it was the bag of ham I purchased from the deli 11 days ago!! :ack2::ack2::ack2: I thought the ham was fine and just made the wraps quickly, without thinking much about it. Though, in hindsight, the ham was slightly more "wet" than usual, (which I now fear was slime) and had a slight, slight odor (but truthfully that is hard for me to detect because I think ALL meat has a slight odor.) So, all that to say...is there anything I can do to boost our immunities to help fight this off if we are about to get food poisoning? I am so worried now!
  4. Oh my goodness, yes! I am already so sad at the thought of not having my kiddos with me and feel like I have so much more to give. They are 14, 12, 10, & 8, so i still have time with them and they still need me, but I can see that it will not be long til they are all gone. So sad :crying::crying:
  5. I deactivated my account back in June and have LOVED it! It was so freeing to me to not have to read about people and their drama. I did go through a time where I would wonder what someone was doing and wish I could get on FB to check on them. But, now, it doesn't even cross my mind except when I hear about the drama and I am thankful I am not sucked into reading it. The withdrawal takes a few days and then you will be so happy you made the cut!!!! Good luck over the next few days :)
  6. WD-40 takes it off of dry erase boards, so you might try that too. I don't know if it would leave a spot of greasy film on the fridge, though. Something to try, I guess.
  7. Wishbonedawn and katilac, thank you both for your input. I will not send anything to the family...you are right...It is relatively easy to find alternative treatment information on the Internet, so I am sure someone within the family/friend structure will have already done research for her. I am so sad for this family and what they are facing. For a brief time today, I felt like I was back with my sister and felt the hopelessness that I remember so well. Again, thanks to you all for your replies.
  8. We are near Pensacola, so we are in the path. I am very stressed right now, trying to decide if we need to head north to my dad's home or ride it out. We are on an inlet off the bay, but we are right.on.the.water. About 3 feet above sea level, so we could get flooding from surges. Stress...stress....stress! Prayers for us all in the next few days!
  9. Thank you all for your replies! And, I really do appreciate your kind words regarding my sister. I believe I will mail something to them, as you all suggested. That is a great idea and they can do what they want with the information, and I will have done what was laid on my heart to do. Excellent idea. Thanks again.
  10. Earlier today, I went to a garage sale that was benefiting a young woman who has malignant brain cancer, which is the same kind of cancer my own sister died from ten years ago. I made a donation and then had to leave, as it was very emotional for me to see this woman and to know what she is facing in the months/years to come. I have faced this with my sister. As a small back story, about a week or so ago, I happened upon a documentary regarding a doctor in Houston, TX (Dr. Burzynski) that has had great success in treating and curing this type (and other types) of brain cancer, but does not follow the traditional methods that are commonly used to treat cancer. I wish we had known of this doctor back 15 years ago when my sister was first diagnosed; perhaps she would still be here today. My question is this: would it be weird to go back to that home where they were holding the garage sale to give them the information about this doctor? I don't know any of the people there at all, so I would be just showing up on their door with information regarding a doctor out in Houston, that I have no personal experience about, just something that I saw on this documentary and have since researched. And something that I wish my family had known about back then. What do you all think?
  11. I am going to throw another vote in there for CLE. We use it for Math and Langauge Arts for all four of our kiddos. Each of our dc have different learning styles, yet CLE has been a God-send and fit their needs perfectly. It truly is a great program and is incredibly thorough. Oh, I wanted to add... With our oldest dd, we used Saxon until 3rd grade, then switched to CLE. Nothing could make me go back! Oldest dd has finished 7th grade and is strong enough in her math skills that she is now doing Chalkdust Algebra I, without any problems.
  12. We are in week 2 of grades 8, 7, 5, & 3. So far, we are all in love with the entire program. All of my kiddos love Mr. Stephens, really enjoy his teaching style, and have learned very much during the short lectures. I have appreciated that he is spending a nice amount of time reviewing the basics. We are not using it as a full language arts program, though it has supplemented what we are using perfectly, (which is CLE, by the way). In short, it is our kids favorite subject this year. Each of them love watching the videos and think Mr. Stephens is really funny. Hopefully, this enthusiasm will continue. I reserve the right to change my opinion as time goes on, but for right now, I have absolutely no complaints at all and am highly impressed with each level of the course.
  13. Well, that was the state she chose, and it was wrong. I don't know....it seems pretty ridiculous to me. I look forward to hearing the teachers reply.
  14. I am extemely puzzled, too. My dd had a question in her Civics class that asked which state has the capital of Virginia. It listed four states and she picked one, which of course, was wrong. She was penalized for the wrong answer and it gave no option for not answering with a state. I couldn't wrap my mind around it and was convinced I had lost it. I have emailed the teacher about it, but I feel like I am going crazy. Thanks for confirming that there is not a state with Virginia as its capital. :D
  15. Is there a state that has Virginia as it's capital?
  16. I am so sorry. I lost my mother in 2005 and honestly, it doesn't get any easier. There are still moments that I pick up the phone to call her and then I remember that I can't and it is like losing her all over again for a minute. I am so very sorry for what you are going through.
  17. I believe it is very presumptuous on our part if we think we are the only intelligent life out there in this vast space. So, yes, I think there is life on other planets somewhere out there. Why not?
  18. Oh my word!!!! This coffee creamer is wonderful! I really don't see us buying any from the store again!
  19. When we moved in to our home, my neighbor came over to welcome us and brought a small platter of cookies. I appreciated the gift and took it to mean that the platter was part of the welcome gift. Was I wrong? Was I supposed to return the platter after we had eaten the cookies? Anytime I give a give of food like that situation, I feel that the dish is part of the gift. What say the hive?
  20. Yes, exactly! Another wonderful way for her to be guided gently through this world. I am thankful that she had this experience. Oh, and yes, isn't that amazing about the dress find at a yard sale, of all places! I was sure that the dress was priced incorrectly, but no...just $2.00.
