  1. Can anyone get this link to work? It sounds like the exact question I have! http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/515384-high-school-history-credit-input-vs-output/ If not, does anyone want to chime in to tell me what sort of output is a good guideline for 10th grade? I'll be using some videos, and a textbook, but not just traditionally going through and answering chapter questions. How do I know what amount of output is good for a hs credit?
  2. Does anyone know if Dave Raymond is planning to finish his American history course so it goes all the way through the World Wars and even more current history?
  3. I couldn't wear a earrings without a reaction until I got some niobium ones with special backs. Maggie was so helpful in trying to figure out how I could wear earrings without a reaction or infection. http://www.wear-earrings-again.com/
  4. If I create my own course, what would be the minimum requirements for written work? I don't want him just to be reading and watching lectures. Any advice on guidelines?
  5. I love all of these ideas! Thank you so much! Please continue to post any others that come to mind. I think I'll have my son look them over with me so we can plan a really awesome course!
  6. I am just curious of any "outside the box" type history curriculums out there. My son has done both the literature-heavy route (TOG) and the textbook route (Bob Jones), and he is requesting something unique for next year. Maybe something research or discovery based? He said he loves the idea of learning US history like how they portray it on the movie National Treasure. I need history to be a quick subject since he will be focusing more on STEM career. I know about Creek Edge Press cards, but is there anything else I should look at that would make history come alive for him?
  7. Is it topics that she hasn't learned before? The first LU of math is totally different than the other 9. You can see samples online at the website. Basically, it takes each major concept taught in the grade before, and gives a pretest. If the student fails the pretest, there is a condensed lesson and practice problems that teaches any concepts that might need to be learned. If they are still struggling, there are extra supplemental pages on various topics in the back of the Teacher's Manual.
  8. I'm saving the 810 book before my son gets his first job! He already knows he needs to complete it before getting hired!
  9. I loved CLE 800 for my son. I skipped 801 (review/pre-tests) and 810 (which is a booklet on personal finance/budgeting, etc). Level 800 goes so much deeper than level 700. It really makes the student think. Plus, there is a lot of geometry, real life consumer math mixed in with the pre-algebra. After we tried 2 algebra curriculums, and my son begged me to go back to CLE. I switched him back and he loves math again! I really don't know what I'm going to do for Geometry and Alg II though!
  10. I agree! Attuneup is excellent! We are looking forward to the second semester with Amy!
  11. Does anyone know if you can get a second child discount if you already have a child working through a course or do they need to be purchased at the same time?
  12. I had the opposite thing happen to me! I counted my credits and went back to look at the orders I used the no Rush shipping on (and had shipped) and there was one credit missing. I chatted again with amazon about the missing credit, and when she mentioned she was expediting the issue while on chat, the order suddenly was back to "preparing for shipment". How crazy is that! She assured me that couldn't happen, and then when I mentioned that this policy was giving a lot of people difficulty, I was promptly disconnected from chat. I thought it was a fluke so I chatted again, and at exactly the same part of the conversation with the new person, I was disconnected again! Not sure what to think of all this!
  13. Yes, this past weekend I chatted with them to find out where I could see my credits. They assured me this was not possible on my end. Something fishy is going on with this. Think I'll just stick to my prime 2 day shipping.
  14. Interesting! I chatted with a regular customer support person and then the supervisor about this policy and they both said the same thing about it being chosen at random (the supervisor said she would be irritated too, but that is how they are doing it. She said she would forward my complaint to the appropriate department) My credits are divided up between 2 media types... I hope you are right!
  15. Let me know what they say. Maybe if enough people complain, they will realize their policy isn't written the way they are carrying it out! I have no use for the video credits they gave me and wouldn't have wasted my prime shipping on that!
  16. Thank you. I just checked and my credits are divided between videos and mp3 music. I just chatted with Amazon and they said Amazon just randomly picks which media type to put it in, and that you cannot switch and use it in another type. I find this policy highly misleading as I don't use it for some of those media types. Is that what others are finding as well?
  17. Where can I find out how many credits I have available?
  18. Yes, that is what confused me a little. All the other reviews said it looks thorough and rigorous, but it was 2 reviews on the CLE yahoo group that discussed what I posted above. I looked and compared the samples as much as possible, and I think we are just going to do it! We love CLE here!
  19. Okay, I found the review where someone listed a negative. She said that it followed a very different sequence than other Algebra I curriculums. Someone else agreed and also said that it followed a different format than other curriculums for how it asks the questions. Does anyone have any insight to this concern? I think these were beta testers, so perhaps some of it changed.
  20. Thank you both. OneStep- we aren't trying to rush. I mean, he is in 9th grade, so I'd like to complete Algebra 1this year, but we don't mind stopping and working on troublesome areas. The biggest issue he is having is how it is explained. He isn't mathy, so the technical math terms being used in the explanation really throws him off. I really need this to be as independent as it can (I know algebra, so I don't mind helping, but I need someone to be the main teacher.....good explanations, DVDs, etc). Ktgrok- thanks, that is encouraging!
  21. I just went and read it. Thank you! I feel that I want him to know algebra well enough that he could go into any program, but I just am not seeing that happen yet.
