  1. Hi, I am loking for a new reading/language arts curriculum for my first grader. He is not yet reading more than three letter words and still struggles at that. We tried OPGTR, and struggled through most of the lessons, he was very bored with it. I stopped for a good 3 to 4 months, and am wanting to get back into the swing of it. But should I start again with OPGTR? we also did explode the code workbooks. It was like pulling teeth, lol. He LOVES to be read to, and from the way it looks in the last couple of weeks, is becoming a bit more tolerant of workpages.. What phonics/language arts/reading program would you suggest?
  2. It looks good, is it?? I need something engaging for my 4 year old. He does not yet know ALL of his letters and sounds, and does like doing some workbooks work. It seems very affordable, and I like that it is a christian curriculum...is it a good one? thanks!!!
  3. Who all is using this for their History this year? Is this all you are using? Just wondering, I was thinking of adding in some of the lesson ideas from Lesson Pathways to beef it up a bit..
  4. How does it compare to Right Start, Saxon? I started with Right Start, got frustrated with it, and moved to Saxon, looking at the Saxon 1 book, I see nothing but frustration for DS6, I think he will get very bored, it moves soo slowly it seems. How is Miquon? I hear so many good things, but just not sure.. I knda wish we had stuck with right start, but how easy is it to start with a child that is so used to counting on an individual number basis, rather than visualizing in groups?? I would really like to hear more about Miquon..I dont know much about it, is there a website with good info? thanks so much for your input :)
  5. Not harsh, I would just go with what the others say. If it is really hard for them to just drink plain water, I would start by diluting whatever else they have half and half, then up the water concentration. Even 100% juice isnt that great for kids to drink, so I would definitely try to think of a way to get them used to water. It shouldnt be too hard, your children are super young!
  6. Prolly be much less confused than I am about all of the choices out there, TBH..
  7. Saxon Math is very scripted, and basically is scheduled for you also. You have a meeting book that you go over with your child so that you can teach them calendar, and all the lessons are scripted
  8. 6yo DS: Elemental History Elemental Science Intro to Science OPGTR w/ ETC Bob Books FLL 1 Copywork Saxon Math 1 Art Program, not sure what yet.... maybe a foreign language 4YO DS Tag along for History and Science Language Arts from Lesson Pathways Saxon Math k Zaner Bloser HAndwriting K Lots of read alouds for both :) Am I missing anything?? How does this sound? Thanks for critiquing :)
  9. Sounds like a great plan! Do you mind sharing the "beefing up" part? :bigear:
  10. I just got elemental history. Looks great, and I love love the way she lays it all out for you so there is basically no thinking involved!:tongue_smilie: I was thinking that the SOTW was going to be a bit over their heads, so I like the idea of waiting a couple of years. There is a great study from Confessions of a Homeschooler that I may do next year with the boys, called Expedition Earth, and then jump into SOTW when the boys are 8 and 6 also. SOUNDS GREAT! Finally have it figured out :)
  11. My boys are young, 6 and 5, but I want to do a chronological type history with them, one that doesnt jump around too much, such as SOTW. The only thing I am worried about is not having enough American History, or Geography. Does SOTW incorporate Much AH? Is there another history program for elementary that you would recommend? Thanks :)
  12. HAAA! Thats what Ive been doing! Thats why I need a new plan, because that has stopped working:tongue_smilie:
  13. Do you use Flylady? Motivated moms? Anything I havent heard of? I NEED motivation, and I work better with a plan....Just wondering about what other people do..
  14. I have not had a period since June 8th, I am on nuvaring, but there was a 2 week period last month when I ddnt have it in. I have taken 3 home pregnancy tests..first was negative, and then I took one the next day, got a vague positive line. So then I went to the doc, got a blood test, and it was negative. That was a week ago. Still have not started..and took another home test that was negative..but still no period. I have NEVER missed a period, exept during pregnancy..Could it be from this darn BC??
  15. Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely look into it:001_smile:
  16. I am obviously very confused about what curriculum I want to use with DS's, I have 3 posts about 3 different ones..LOL. There is just so much out there!! I just think I need to pick something and put my blinders on and go for it..
  17. Ok, thats how it seemed to me, very interesting, maybe for History, because I need HELP with that, lol..but it seems like alot of work, going through all of those links, printing instructions, getting it all organized..
  18. Does Sonlight REALLY work? It just seems too good to be true..I am not a big hands on artsy craftsy type, and I like the idea of reading so much..But do kids actually retain the information well?
  19. Ya my kiddos do the same thing. Or when you have something planned early in the morning they sleep in, and you have to wake them up, and they are super cranky all day :glare:
  20. No TV on between the hours of 10-6. I let DSs watch cartoons in the mroning, and sometimes in the evening. But daytime hours are to be spent on school or outdoors playing
  21. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0935607099/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Here is a link to amazon..
  22. Has anyone used this art curriculum? It sounds very interesting, and the art projects seem engaging..
  23. :lurk5: I have the same issue with DS6, will be watching suggestions also.
