  1. My mom plays. I hope she wins!! They say money doesn't make you happy but I bet it won't make me sad either. 😊
  2. They have input with the decision, however, the details and final outcome belong to the parents.
  3. She's just looking for an alternative to being the main teacher until everything settles down. With a brand new baby and three small children I can understand that. I think online learning or DVD based learning is a great choice in her situation. It will keep her son at home & she can still oversee his education.
  4. I usually buy used off ebay. There are always specials if you buy 2 get 1 free-- plus there is always free shipping... at least from the sellers Ive used.
  5. We did. My son started public school in 5th grade & stayed through 7th grade. At the end of last year he was over it and asked to come home. He made good grades, but he just got to the point of hating school. We had him finish out the year & now he's homeschooling and will do so through graduation. We are part of a co-op with 80 kids & he attends there Monday from 8:30-1:30. We are also part of a support group that organizes field trips. As for his friends, he attends middle school youth group on Wednesdays & is part of the set-up team too. On Sunday he serves on the production team for when high school youth group meets... he has a lot of friends that serve with him so that works out well. No regrets. But so glad he is home!! My daughter went to public school in 6th grade. She's in 10th now and doing great. She has no desire to come home & Im okay with that. She's got a great group of friends & is doing so well academically.
  6. I'm 46. I just tried. I could touch them but I felt the pull in the back of my legs. Guess I need to add stretching to my exercise 😊 My 13 year old son can touch them. My almost 16 year old daughter cannot. ETA- I assume you meant with legs totally straight so that's how we attempted it ðŸ‘ðŸ»
  7. Yes, they sent out a letter explaining their reasons, which were mainly focused on the safety of the students. Our county purchased NASA approved glasses for 5th - 12th grade. They are having a safety seminar beforehand & students with signed permission slips can see it outside. My daughter is pretty excited. I didn't purchase glasses & now I can't find any for me & my son. ☹ï¸
  8. I grew up in Atlanta. My only real thought of the confederate flag is it reminds me of the laser show at Stone Mountain. I also think of a man at church that has a huge collection of confederate war stuff. (Uniforms, guns, cannon balls, bugles & much more). He's 70 and from New York, retired now in FL.
  9. Most kids here eat lunch that the school provides. My daughter hates school food so she packs a lunch. She has a cute insulated bag (it's for an adult and large enough to hold some tupperware) ... today she brough water, taco salad with a side of ranch & chips from home.
  10. We have 10k on each child. I think it's $100 a year or less. It will cover the cost of funeral basically.
  11. The county next to me closed all public schools on Monday due to the eclipse.
  12. I haven't read the other replies. Prayer for me is simply talking to God about a specific situation & trusting Him with the outcome. A friend of mine just passed away from cancer. She was only 32 & left behind two children that are too young to remember their mom. Our entire church rallied around this family in prayer. Did we pray for healing? Of course! But more than that we prayed for God's peace, guidance, strength, and knowing & understanding that simply surpasses our own ability. We provided meals, yardworj, housecleaning and tangible love that made life easier. But the most important thing was prayer. Her husband says it sustained him through every difficult day & is what he needed the most then and now. I agree with him. My friend's number one request through her cancer treatment was prayer. Even when it doesn't heal it works.
  13. I'm so sorry people are giving you a difficult time. Four kids isn't even a big family to me, so I'm genuinely surprised that people would be so weird about it. ((Hugs to you)). I totally understand your feeling upset.
  14. My mom has always had short hair & wears very little make-up. I have long hair & wear make up, but it's very little time for me to apply (anything more than five minutes is too long imo). I'd say we are different but both low maintenance. My mom tends to dress trendy but comfortable, and I'd say I try to be the same. My daughter has a huge kaboodle filled with make-up. She only buys expensive name brand from Sephora (while I'm a cheapie and wouldn't dream of what she spends). She wears full make-up and introduced me to wearing highlighter, (which I had no idea existed). She gets her nails done & brows waxed - while for me, that's a waste of money. She's very fashionable. All that to say, I don't see too much influence from my mom to me or from me to my daughter. All three of us are similar in personality though 😊
  15. I have Level 7. We will begin it next week. I can't speak to the younger levels, but Level 7 looks amazing. I've looked through all of the lessons & they do not contain busywork. I'm excited to see how it actually works with my son & if it will live up to my expectations.
  16. I had kombucha, water kefir & milk kefir going for a few years. I've since switched to drinking water only and my family doesn't drink it so I stopped. My favorite was probably grape "soda" with the water kefir. My first fermentation was with the grains, sugar, a dab of molasses and a couple of raisins. My second fermentation was with the water kefir only and organic grape juice. It tasted so carbonated and so yummy!!!
  17. I've not read the replies. I eat plant based/vegan with little to no oil, sugar, processed foods and try to stick to water as my beverage (although I do have coffee). I do not count calories or focus on portions. I love to eat high starch foods and incorporate potatoes in just about every meal. I specifically love Dr. McDougall and The Starch Solution. For recipes, I have several cookbooks (plant pure kitchen, forks over knives, etc. type books)... but honestly my favorite is youtube. I particularly love a channel called High Carb Hannah. She has great food recipes and has lost over 70 pounds. I eat everything I love still, just healthy plant based versions (Mexican, pizza, Italian, Mac and "cheese", queso dip, etc). When I want something sweet, I make "ice cream" in my vitamix with frozen bananas. It's unbelievably yummy.😊
  18. Oregano oil and vitamin C Oh, we like D3 too
  19. I don't have any social media except Pinterest. I definitely prefer it and somehow manage to still stay in the loop. My friends are very sweet and send me pictures and invites via text. It's all worked out fine. And if I am missing anything I'm oblivious so it's all good ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ˜Š
  20. I spend a couple of minutes on my hair. It's longer & I like it completely flat and straight. I do have it cut with layers so it looks less like it is just hanging. I brush it and flat iron it some days (if I sleep with my hair wet it needs ironing). Im kind of a minimalist with make-up and hair. I'd love some help with an actual style that's low maintenance but more than what I do. I'm 46 this month and my hair is just kinda ...meh.
  21. I like make up, not a lot though. I wear Dr. Pepper chapstick, mascara & I use highlighter around my cheekbones and eyebrow bone. I also like wearing cute clothes, perfume, having my hair straightened- it all takes little effort but I feel prettier. The same way I eat well and exercise, I just feel better all around. 😊
  22. I worked as a receptionist at Spa Sydell in Atlanta (like 22 years ago) but the estheticians there made very good money. I definitely think where you go to school and where you end up working (and living) plays a huge role in your income. There is money to made in that field though for sure.
