  1. Is there a website that I can go to that I can print off FULL lessons for free. I have a friend that is starting to homeschool her son and I told her I would try to help her find some stuff to print off that would get him through the rest of this year so she would not have to buy any books until next school year. He is in the 5th grade and only has about 3 or 4 months of school left. I have found lots of sites with printouts but they are just about all worksheets, not FULL lessons...... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.....
  2. Thank you everyone for your help. I showed my daughter the video demos and she wants to go ahead with the bju DLO and so do I.
  3. Can anyone tell me anything about BJU's distance learning online courses or their dvd program? Do you like it? Do they give a lot of homework? ETC....... My daughter is going into the 8th grade and for her 8th grade year I want to put her in a dvd program of some sort but I am having trouble deciding between ABEKA and BJU.
  4. I have been looking into bob jones to. I have enjoyed watching their video demos
  5. I checked into the Bob jones curriculum and I am going to try to go ahead and do the individual online english course for my daughter. It is very much different then the abeka academy. Thanks to each and every one of you for your help and advice. I appreciate it very much/.
  6. Thank you for your help. I am going to look into this more before I do make a decision. I did not like the ABeka Grammar book this year. I didnt know how to teach it because there were only a brief discussion about it in the book before each lesson. I did Bob jones english with her last year and liked it better, it is more explanitory to me. I may just go ahead and use the bob jones english with her. I willl also check out their dvd program. I may call them and see what they have. She did not go through her whole english book last year because it was so big and we started homeschooling after she had already gone through 9 weeks in public school but she seemed to like the bob jones english better than this Abeka.
  7. Thank you for your help. English would be the only thing that I will be enrolling her in.
  8. Thank you for your help.... I really appreciate it. Is the Abeka dvd academy worth it.
  9. Anyone know of any other programs besides abeka that offers a dvd program for individual courses?
  10. I am homeschooling my DD who is 12 (soon to be 13) and will be going into the 8th grade this upcoming school year in August. I am just going to be honest I am NOT good at teaching English. As a matter of Fact I dont even know where to begin. I am not good at math either but that is taken care of. I would like to put her in the 8th grade English video streaming in the Abeka Dvd academy but I would like to find out more about how it works first before I do it just to make sure it would be right for my daughter. I know that they combine the Grammer and composition, literature and Vocab, spelling and poetry but how do they teach all 3 at once in the dvd's? I guess what I really want to know is does the teacher on the dvd give assignments for them to do in all three books everyday or are they alternated? THanks in advance for your help.

  12. I think there is alot of busy work in the books. I am going to try a different strategy with her and see if we cant make things more fun for her.
  13. I think Abeka is going to be the best for her. she likes the curriculum and I think she will like the dvds. I have shown her sample videos and she says she likes it, I guess we will see.
  14. May I ask what united streaming is? I am looking it up now but if you could tell me a bit about it I would be greatful.... thanks.
  15. I was just wondering what your typical 7th grade school day consists of if you dont mind sharing. I am trying to figure out if I am making it to hard or to easy for my DD who is in the 7th grade and will move on to the 8th grade in August. We use Abeka curriculum for english, spelling, history, health, and science. For math we have used different things because she struggles in math. I also have an Abeka of people literature book but we have not gotten to use it much. I feel like we do not have enough time in the day to do all that we have to do. She wants to learn spanish and she loves to practice her typing with her Mavis Beacon software but we dont seem to have enough time in the day for her to do the two. The spanish we have is just a simple hooked on spanish program that is for beginners but we still dont seem to have time. Any suggestions would be great....
  16. thanks for letting me know. I am looking for something that she can understand. I have tried several ways to help her and to teach her math but for some reason she just cannot remember what she learns. I am so very surprised that she did not learn more than what she did in public school. I thought I was sending her so she could learn but I have found that she does not know alot of what she should. She is in 7th grade and can hardly do subtraction. I have been homeschooling her now since October of last year. and have tried and tried to help her learn her subtraction and multiplication and it is just so very hard for her for some reason. She gets so frustrated when she cant get a problem right and she cries. I tried Teaching textbook with her and she liked it at first until it got into multiplication and then she got to where she didnt want to do it. This morning she was doing a lesson in the teaching textbook 7 and she got a problem wrong and went all to pieces so I told her not to do the math in the TT 7 today and I gave her a subtraction work sheet to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Does anyone know of any other DVD programs besides Abeka and Bob Jones that is cheaper? I Have looked into both of them and they seem to be pretty good but I am on a very fixed income and I am just not sure that I can spend that much for curriculum. I will spend the money if I have to but I am afraid that I will spend that money and my daughter will not like it or it will be to hard for her and then I would just be stuck with it. I am thinking about doing the Math U See for next year because there is a teaching DVD that comes with it and really the only other subject that she needs the DVD teaching program with is English because I am horrible at English and I have a hard time teaching it to her. Maybe I will just do 1 subject in the Abeka DVD program with her if I dont find a dvd program that is cheaper. Thanks in Advance for everyones help.... Also my daughter will be in the 8th grade.
  18. I homeschool my daughter and plan to homeschool her through her high school years But I have no clue where to start with her transcripts and credits. She is only in the 7th grade right now so I figured that if I started trying to learn now I would know more by the time she is in the 9th grade..... Does anyone know where I can find out how to make transcripts and how credits are figured out? I thought about putting her in the abeka dvd academy through her highschool year but someone told me that not all colleges would recognize an Abeka diploma........
  19. I am just looking for something to start with at this point. I think I will try it out. If it is not right for us I can always resell and get my money back...... Thanks for your help.
  20. I live in Kentucky and I want to continue to homeschool my daughter through her Highschool years but I dont know anything about Transcripts and credits and that sort of thing. Anyone living in Kentucky that homeschools their Highschool children can you help me? I have thought about putting her in the Abeka dvd academy through her highschool years, would that be the best thing to do?
  21. Has anyone here ever used Hooked on Spanish? If so did it work and was it worth the money? I was at biglots and I found the hooked on spanish with 3 levels in it for only 20 dollars. It has 3 discs, 3 workbooks and a bunch of other stuff. My daughter has been wanting to learn spanish but I dont want to spend the money on this if it does not work. Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks in advance.
  22. thank you all for your help. I think I will order her the teaching textbook after I sell the Saxon math and dive cd. She told me today that she DOES NOT like her saxon math. I have some placement tests printed out from the teaching textbook website so I will have her to take the test.
