  1. I’ve seen a few recommendations for it on Facebook. Curious if anyone else has tried it or another kit they recommend more?
  2. We both loved the maze runner series! Can you provide a link to the water fire saga? I can’t figure out what it is!
  3. Thank you all for the great recommendations! Will spend some time reading about them over on goodreads :)
  4. That's part of the problem - has only been reading "school" books lately so I'm not sure. She loves the show Stranger Things and wasn't at all scared by the movie It (both old and new...I can't watch either). She loved Hunger Games (books and movies). She liked The Fault in our Stars (I know, not great literature, haha!)
  5. I would love to get my daughter some new good reads for Christmas. She used to be a voracious reader but hasn't so much lately (she's in high school now -- no longer homeschooling). Would love some top reads to gift her! I'm fine with whatever content.
  6. I have seen numerous people with their dog in the grocery store - this is Trader Joe’s and the local health food store. They had a blanket down in the top of the cart (where a child would sit) and that’s where the dog was.
  7. I’ve been considering this subscription for my 11 year old son also. I’ve read all good reviews so far. It is pricey though, so I want to make sure it’s of good value!
  8. No way. Unless she gets them from an optometrist, never. There was a recent article about why it is never a good idea to do this.
  9. Both Guardians of the Galaxy - loooooove. We just watched Swallows and Amazons yesterday and liked it.
  10. We do 1 to 2 hours a day - my son is 11 doing AOPS pre-algebra - we do one chapter per day generally.
  11. Check out Schitt's Creek on Netflix. I absolutely adore it and find it so funny. But warning - it won't be everyone's cup of tea as one of the characters is pansexual (I had to google it, lol). It stars Eugene Levy and his son Daniel, Catherine O'Hara, and is a Canadian show written by the two Levy men. Love.
  12. Go to Nordstrom if you have one close and ask them to help you.
  13. Actually longer pants are coming back this year. But I will mention that I notice a lot of the images that show up on pinterest for me are older (like a year or two older) so that could be part of it. This might be a good blog for you to follow, but see this one thread she did recently. https://youlookfab.com/2017/09/14/wide-legs-with-flats-for-fall/ Here's another post on that topic that might shed more light: https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/fab-full-length-dark-jeans
  14. San Diego - our charter partners with parents. In the younger years it's all kinds of homeschool/on-campus blends. Last year we were completely at home with my son but we did get money to use and we met with an educational specialist every six weeks (so easy). We use the curriculum we want but do hand in samples every six weeks (one page sample for each of math, history, language arts, science). This year my son will do classes on campus one day a week (science, writing, art, PE) and I do everything else at home. My daughter goes to the charter high school this year and it is four days a week and one day at home doing assigned work for the day. We love our charter.
  15. We use build your library grade 5 and 6. Best history we've ever used.
  16. I know this is an old thread, but couldn't find any others on this topic. Any further reviews on this product? Just saw it mentioned on a FB group and am now curious.
  17. Last year we tried Tinker Crate, but he got bored of them pretty quickly. Thinking about some other new kits -- possibly an electronics kit or something (he loves to tinker -- right now he's into taking apart all his Nerf guns and "modding" them). I recently saw this mentioned on a homeschool group on FB, MEL Science: https://melscience.com/en/ Am just wondering what are some things we should consider? He loves engineering / building types of things, plus cool science, tinkering, etc. I would prefer to buy some kits that are easy for him to get started with (we ordered the Make Magazine but so far haven't spent a ton of time reading them). Any suggestions?
  18. Kut jeans DEFINITELY stretch out, so you definitely need to buy a little tighter.
  19. Oh wow, I had no idea about this! I am a huge Nordstrom shopper, and have a personal stylist that I use on a semi-regular basis. This sounds like a cool thing too! And it would be easy for me to return because I have many stores around me. I can't wait to hear what your results are! One thing you might want to do is start following bloggers. That's how I get a lot of my clothing ideas -- I follow them usually on facebook and they link directly to stuff they recommend and then I pick the things that are my style (I follow bloggers that are only my style anyway). It's a super cool way of shopping for me!
  20. Horrifying. I'm beyond disgusted. My daughter is a dancer and spent years getting her full splits. You don't just do them.
  21. When my kids were little we would listen to SOTW cds and supplement with other living books, movies, and documentaries. In grade 5 I started using Build Your Library with my son and I LOVE it. So good!
  22. Good thread. Beef jerky. Bars (Lara is a super healthy one). Squeezable fruit/veggie (like applesauce consistency).
  23. I buy a lot of my stuff there. Off the top of my head, things I focus on (I mostly focus on organics, but not 100%) - bagged salads - bagged kale (I freeze it immediately and use in smoothies) - fruit depending on how it looks - yellow onions - garlic - potatoes - cheeses - american slices, whole milk mozzerella for pizza, parmigiana, etc. - meats: chicken breasts, chicken legs, some "deli" stuff that's organic or nitrite/nitrate free, hot dogs - flour, sugars, spices - chocolate chips - honey - peanut butter - whole wheat pasta - chicken broth - thai curry sauce - teas and coffee beans - olive oil, coconut oil, coconut oil spray - breads: sourdough sandwich, wheat sandwich, tortillas, some of the artisan fresh breads - dairy section: milk, honey greek yogurt, sour cream, whipping cream, etc. - eggs - frozen section: pizza (surprisingly good), orange chicken, potstickers, fish sticks, naan bread, blueberries, chocolate croissants & regular croissants - cereals, various, plus they have a great instant flax oatmeal - vanilla ice cream (I have yet to find a better one) - bars, eg cliff, lara, etc. - shampoos, conditioners, body wash - vitamins - clothing detergent pods - dishwash detergent I have to say I love their sample section. Usually gives me ideas that I wouldn't have tried otherwise. And they sometimes pair things in interesting ways.
  24. I do use Barnes and noble sometimes but mostly Amazon, though we are running out of space so I do mostly Library these days.
