  1. I know what a kilt is, but it doesn't sound like you are referring to a skirt:001_huh:
  2. It's so hard for people to follow instructions:tongue_smilie:
  3. Nope! I'm not new. But I've read posts here and will not have any nastiness in this thread. Therefore, NO DEBATE!
  4. No debate! I'm just wondering who thinks what and if they base it on scripture. I've seen it argued with options 1 and 2 Why I'm asking this question: Someone I know believes Bible scripture tells us that a child is not living until it has taken it's first breath. Therefore, you are not killing a living being during abortion.
  5. Thank you ladies! Roller Skates is about an 11 yo girl in the 1890's who goes to stay with a women in NY while her parents travel for a year. It's actually quite neat. But for me and the kids it wasn't engaging at all. We are also reading The Reluctant Dragon which is a picture book altho, lengthy. So far, it's not too fab either. The only series my kids have LOVED is Toys Go Out. DS loved Wind in the Willows as did I. None of us are fans of audio books, but I may have to give them another go.
  6. Doesn't care for books like Roller Skates, The door in the Wall, etc. I don't know what you call these kinds of books with language that makes no sense to some children and stories that all of us seem to find very dry. We have attempted these two as read alouds as they go with our curriculum. Roller Skates we just tossed aside. I have a feeling we will do the same with The Door in the Wall even tho we have read only 3 chapters.
  7. Thank you ladies:001_smile: I wanted to use TT because I am not good at math, nor teaching it. I've tried w/DD before and she is totally confused when I am done. Having the explanations done by TT seemed like a good way to go. Last year in 3rd we used Horizons and she couldn't grasp that in a double/triple digit subtraction problem like 246-309 the 9 couldn't be subtracted from the 6 and so on. My DD's friend is has actually learned how to add and multiply fractions. Her class is beyond the pizza slice phase. As far as supplementing=any recommendations?
  8. We are using 4 for my DD(4th grade). By lesson 36 she hasn't even touched multiplication, division and fractions! Her friend in 4th grade public school has learned all of them. Multiplication was covered in 3rd grade. If I was required to test her I have a strong feeling she would do very poorly. Thoughts?
  9. We weren't. We were doing nearly all MFW and dumped it all. I love the curriculum, but it just wasn't a good fit for us. We also decided to dump science for this year. The only thing we might make another change to is DH's math. We are currently using MM which I think is great, but not sure if it's a good fit for DH. Looking back at Horizons.
  10. Any one else not looking forward to it? I'm in my 2nd year of Hschooling so I'm not sure if this is a typical feeling of burnout. Maybe I'm just being a baby.
  11. I have not tried this-I assume you also read the material so that you know the narration is on the right track?
  12. I agree with you about it being more than just completing the information. We do not do written narrations or oral-we have tried. My DD just can't seem to remember anything that is read to her. Right now she does her Math and Writing/Grammar by herself. Next week she will start SWO which she likes (because it is independent) rather than Spelling Power. Other than that we do STOW together, but she doesn't like to sit while I read.
  13. My 4th grader wants to do all subjects on her own. She only wants to ask for help when she needs it. I don't know where to go with this. Any suggestions? TIA:)
  14. Yep-me. We started out with MFW ECC and have dropped all of it. My kids are both doing BJU English/Grammar. I also tried WWE for my 4th grader (again:001_huh:). We have stuck with TT for my 4th grader, but switched from Singapore(again) to Mammoth Math. We went from MFW Geo. to Expedition Earth created by Confessions of a Homeschooler. It's a lovely program, but my 4th grader tunes out during the reading. Now I have ordered Little Passports for Geo and am praying it works. We also started SOTW 2 which my 2nd grader loves, but my 4th grader hates. Science may just get a complete pass this year. The MFW ECC science was not a good fit for us. I just have no clue where to go with the subject. BTW-we aren't even 8 weeks in:willy_nilly: My 4th grader would like to do everything independently so that she doesn't have to listen to the reading aloud.
  15. It's a gorgeous dress! Too bad it's not longer-then I would let my DD wear it.
