  1. attachment- I struggle with this all the time. I don't make friends on purpose ( easier to remain friendless than lose a friend). I really struggle when DH is away in Canada - I have had mental breakdowns over this.
  2. no. I live right at the estuary of a large ( to Australia) river system, it floods regularly. We see what comes down in that water and we see the destruction that water causes. It is not just muddy water like as puddle at all. Enough people have died that Australia is atm having a big advertising program warning people to never go into floodwaters.
  3. We have to watch out for deer as well. same son had to break suddenly just 2 weeks ago to avoid a deer and had to get all new tyers afterwards. He is working in a very remote area of the state in very heavy bush ( forest ) . the heaviest bush in the state in fact.
  4. never rains but pours, DS18 hit a huge Kangaroo and totaled his car. Even the chassis is cracked. He is shaken but unharmed.
  5. solar hot water service. has saved us thousands over the years solar electricity panels. - so nice to receive a check in the mail every quarter instead of a bill
  6. DH and I are perfectly matched in many many areas. the ones that we are not perfectly matched in are the not so important areas
  7. Made it through the day. It is now Monday here and I feel so mentally fatigued that I am not sure how I will go. It is only 8 am and I have already broken into the hidden stash of dark chocolate.
  8. Ah, I see. It is a North American word. I have never heard of the word and have no idea how it would be pronounced
  9. not sure if I have ever heard the word before so I will have to look it up to see what it is before I can vote
  10. DH's father died suddenly on Tuesday, He was 93. DH has madly been traveling to Canada ever since he heard the news, absolutely devastated. He got there today and found out that his brother and sisters started fighting over the estate even before the deceased father was removed from the bedroom ( mother is still alive but in shock and completely confused even denying that she was ever married). My poor poor DH. He cannot believe what is going on. He is absolutely distraught . So wish I could be with him in his time of complete distress
  11. Hugs I remember telling a mum that I thought her son was maybe experimenting with drugs. It didn't go well at all. Mother was very very upset with me. About 2months later the boy stole a gun and traided it with someone for drugs and that person used the gun to kill another youth. Son ended up in a juvenile detention.
  12. Dh's father died this evening ( morning in Canada) he was 93 :crying: . :crying: Dh will be traveling to Melbourne tomorrow and flying out on Thursday.
  13. I just walk in. As does DH to his parents you should have had a poll :toetap05: ( love polls)
  14. ds22 is provided with a 3 page formula sheet for Aerospace exams ( of course he has to know which formulas are used and how to use them). also on some exams he is allowed to bring in one A4 sheet of paper with as many notes as he can fit on it.
  15. 32, 11 years younger than my actual age
  16. depends where in Australia you live. To me it is one of the biggest insults to call a child 'a cheeky little bugger. I ripped into my MIL once (the only time ever) when she called my child a little bugger. He is absoultly not involved in sodimy at all and how dare she make a comment like that.
  17. No I don't allow it. Unfortunatly the twins do it every single time there is nobody in the room. That is why the couch has a big wool blanket over the seat part. Every single cushion now has a full sized rip right down the middle. :cursing: :glare: :cursing: We daren't leave them for a second alone in anybody else's house as the cannot be trusted.
  18. I am starting to feel really tired. Daylight savings ended which means that the clocks go back an hour, which means that the twins are now getting up at 5 am instead of 6 am. which means I have to go milk the cow at 4 am by torch light ( flashlight) as I cannot leave the twins unsupervised in the house at all and nobody else is up that early. As the twins are noisy I have been taking them out for an hour walk - so now people can see the crazy lady pushing the twin pram down the road in the dark at 6 am. court date for twins permanent care order has been set for two weeks :hurray: . Fingers crossed that it doesn't get deferred. went out visiting with twins and they behaved just like NORMAL children. unbelievable - we never thought we would get this far. So far they have been like normal kids for weeks and weeks. RAD type behaviour has lessoned to almost non-existent in the last couple of months. cleaner , after not turning up for 3 weeks, sent me a text that she has quit. bright side is I can now advertise for a replacement without feeling guilty.
  19. How I learned history at public school over 30 years ago starting at year 7 one year ancients - Sumer - Egypt-Greece-Rome one year middle ages- lots and lots on castle development and defense but included things like Norman invasion of England as well next year industrial revolution and the glorious expansion of the British empire leading up to the discovery and settlement of Australia that was then followed by a few years of Australian history and Politics. ( an elective that I didn't do)
  20. This is my personal observation/experience of "mission trips" there seems to be organizations that are making large amounts of money promoting mission trips to young Christian youth that they have to pay large amounts of money to attend and they get a fuzzy good feeling but really don't do anything constructive. I know 4 people who went on "mission trips" to an orphanage in a neighboring Asian country. They had to pay large sums of money and at the orphanage school they were meant to be teaching the orphans English. turns out that none of them were orphans and even the older students only knew the alphabet up to f as that was as far as they had progressed before the next lot of young Christians arrived and started over teaching them English. in the mean time the organizers of this mission trip are raking in lots of money. My oldest, while holidaying in South Africa stayed at a backpackers that was somehow connected to a mission trip school. He and another (non Christian ) backpacker thought they would go and visit the school. when the students saw westerners coming they put away their sports equipment and pulled out a ball made out of rags. My oldest said that in a disguised outbuilding was a modern classroom with computers etc, but for the public there was a large hut with students sitting on benches and the floor. the students were well versed in acting like very poor so the mission school could hope to get more donations.
  21. :svengo: Your DH wants to do something special for you that is a surprise and involves staying away for a weekend. :svengo: I am green ,GREEN with jealousy :D :D :D :D :D :D
  22. other I really don't know if there is one considered his best friend. He has several friends, mostly in Canada. when he goes to Canada he spends just about every day with them. When he is in Australia he doesn't contact them at all. He has one friend who immigrated to Australia at a similar time. He comes and visits for about a month every year. I cannot stand the person ( bad influence on DH plus a complete moron). DH is mostly my best friend. I don't really have friends outside of this forum. acquaintances yes but not real friends- though I have just met a lovely lady who has many similar interests.... so maybe we can cultivate a friendship...........
