  1. Shift here. There is Christmas day holiday Monday , boxing day holiday Tuesday and new year's holiday on Friday. So 3 days off or if you have to work triple pay. Most businesses shut down for the whole week across Australia
  2. Hugs My year wasn't so crash hot either. But at least twin one recovered, I am still alive and I didn't end up having lung cancer I have only had about 4 vacations in my life, so if you manage one every other year you are way ahead of lots of people
  3. The only thing I can do at the moment is sew. I can't do housework or anything like that yet and am completely housebound. I can sit and would rather sit and do something, hence I am sewing for at least 4 hours a day. Patchwork with simple designs is less mentally taxing than garment sewing. Even then, I am doing lots of unpicking.
  4. 10 quilts for my sister's children, plus one for her. I feel quilted out now
  5. Personally I would assemble the quilt before washing. Mostly because the seams in quilting are not finished, as they are hidden within the quilt. I would feel it would frey terribly if just the top washed. I don't know why the ink colour just changed. There was a flash on my screen and now it is red. I don't know how to change it back to black
  6. I have done it, finished the Double wedding ring quilt. I pieced it 20 years ago when pregnant with my youngest. Then put it aside and forgot about it. Early October I joined the circles and started hand quilting. Today I completed the binding.
  7. I can't see what the man did wrong. Sounds like he was nicely mannered and it was a reasonable question.
  8. 8 patchwork quilts completed, one to quilt and one to piece together for my sister's 10 children. Hoping to have them all finished by Thursday
  9. Here there are lots of birds that call or make sounds at night, especially if there is some light, like full moon. I am sure if you have light from your window and there is a bird trying to sleep in a bush close by it would be making noise.( Maybe it is yelling in bird talk to turn off the light ) Bats hibernate I think, so if it is winter there I wouldn't think it bats
  10. I always slice thinly and warm up with leftover lamb gravy from the night before. Served with mashed potatoes peas and carrots.
  11. A dress for my granddaughter I did a lot of unpicking, And my machine seemed to have it out for me today, continually unthreading the needle or running out of bobin thread
  12. Don't be intimidated by your machine. The more you use it the more confidence you will feel. I do just about all my sewing on an old treadle. Just about everything with just straight stitching. I pink the seams on clothing
  13. Has anyone here put binding on a double wedding ring quilt ? specifically how to do the part where the 2 circles met. I understand the theory of how to do it.and have read up on it but thought someone might have some advice from experience. I think I will be hand sewing it on . All tips most welcome Thank you
  14. Can they be donated as public land? Here you could donate to the shire and it would become crown land. But I don't think it would have same terminology there
  15. A summery dress for my granddaughter.it is made out of thin muslin and will be good for the hottest days in summer
  16. Last month I decided to make patchwork quilts for my sister's children. She has 10. I am hoping to get them all finished by the end of this month. I am doing simple patchwork. Things like Chinese Coin, scrapy strip, and Nine Patch patterns Her children are a bit on the rough side, I mean rough on belongings. I have so far 5 completed 3 tops pieced and one at piecing block stage
  17. Hugs My MIL has had it 3 times. She is nearly 102. One of the times she temporarily lost the ability to walk. But she rallied round
  18. Thinking of you Ausmum we have been flooded in for a week, road only just opened last night. If we get any more rain it will flood again. River is still lapping the road I would rather be flooded in any day over bushfires
