  1. Thanks!...SWO isn't really expensive, so I will just go for it as well...
  2. We are planning to use a spelling book...We are starting in January with WTM and are only doing remedial math and phonics now, but will use a spelling book in January when we start our entire workload...
  3. I have a question that may be kind of silly... Would you spend $100 buying new turtlenecks for three boys?...My boys have some long sleeve tees, but they are not warm enough for outdoor play, and I feel turtlenecks would be more appropriate for this weather...I hate buying really cheap stuff because it doesn't last to hand down, and I have checked our local thrift and can't find good turtlenecks...There is a sale at Lands End and I love their clothes...Sooo... Would you spend $100 for ten turtlenecks for three boys?...Or is this a waste of money that could go towards homeschooling stuff? :bigear:
  4. If you are going to use Rod and Staff English or Reading, do you still need Spelling Workout?...I was wondering if spelling is included in Rod and Staff...
  5. I feel like we are spending alot now because we are just starting with this style...We do not have outside classes at the moment, but I voted for $1000 - $1500...I am not sure, but I did not want to underestimate...I have 3 boys...
  6. I just found this topic, but I am loving this thread...Thanks to everyone for the great advice, even if I didn't ask the question :) I just had a "Family Meeting" with the boys and told them what our days are going to look like...They are happy to have the structure ...My oldest actually said he thinks things will be better from now on, knowing what will happen...They are upstairs cleaning out the shelves in their room now... Thanks so much again...I love this forum :001_smile:
  7. Thanks so much for this link...I have checked out the website and sample pages and I am going to try this...I think it is just what I have been looking for...
  8. I was wondering this exact same thing!...I am trying to form a budget now...The $400 each looks reasonable to me...
  9. Do you just want info about Waldorf in general, or mainly the pros or the cons?...I am not sure if you are looking to use the Waldorf method and need info to support you or if you are still researching the idea...
  10. Thanks so much for sharing this...I bookmarked it so we can use it :001_smile:
  11. Thanks for this info!...I just bought MM and we are starting it next week with my oldest and in January with my middle son...
  12. I would just wait until September to do SOTW with all of them...Just eliminate history for now... I am new, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but that is what I would do...
  13. We have been Waldorf inspired since we started homeschooling...My oldest son did first grade at a Waldorf school, and has been home since...He was also home before first grade...We have been heavily involved in Waldorf education for the past 6 years...I even took the beginning courses to become a Waldorf teacher, so I learned alot of Anthroposophy, which some here may have never heard of... Within the last two months we have been moving away from a Waldorf style of education, as I see that I favor the classical method now that I have actually read it...I would never read it before as I thought it would just contradict what I already believed and I didn't want that...I equated wanting a Waldorf type of lifestyle with needing to do everything Waldorf, although being a Christian there are many things about Anthroposophy that I disagree with... This was probably way more info on this topic than you wanted, but my quicker answer is that we definitely are influenced by Waldorf when it comes to our lifestyle choices - my children don't watch television or use the computer yet...They also don't play video games at all...They have never been to the movies...Their toys are all made from natural materials and we have a nature table in our home and another one in our school room...This won't change...But we are going to follow WTM suggestions as far as the actual schooling goes...
  14. Hi "OregonNative", I was wondering if you decided to go with this?...I am planning to get it for my boys...
  15. I bought the download...I plan to save it to my own CD for no extra cost and I will only print out one week at a time... I didn't get the print because I have three kids who will use it, I tend to like "extra copies" and would have copied the book anyway, and I wanted color...Plus the cheaper cost of the downloads was a big plus ;) Thanks so the tips about printing in draft...I would have been the fool printing it on regular high solution!
  16. I was wondering if anyone out there deviates from what is suggested in WTM?...The people I know keep telling me that they take ideas from WTM, but can't do all of what it says...So I wondered what don't you do and why?...Would you do everything if time allowed?...Is there something you just don't agree with? On the contrary, did you not follow something that you wish you did? I am just starting out with WTM, so I have nothing to add yet...I just don't want to end up frustrated a year or two or so from now with unrealistic expectations ;) Thanks for all replies in advance...
  17. I am not sure but am also wondering the answer to this...
  18. I have "Making Math Meaningful"...It talks about teaching math and gives examples of what kinds of problems to teach...There are also downloads to practice problems online...You will have to rewrite the problems for your child, as it is not in workbook form for grades 1-5... It is a "whole to parts" method of teaching math, so if you agree with WTM where it speaks against that, then you will not want to get it... Hope this helps...
  19. So am I! :001_smile:...Welcome Beck!...I am new but I am lovin' it here...
  20. I have never used this...It looks interesting and I would love to use it if it had the NIV version of the scriptures...We read the NIV and not the KJV, and the change would be hard... Maybe if I could tweak it to use the NIV...
  21. What is this?...I have never heard of "Easy Classical"...
