  1. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but MM has a Gold Edition that has one page of problems per topic...It has a place for your name at the top and is structured like a one page worksheet...It cost an additional $7 or so, and has the same problems as the 1A, 4A, etc., just less of them because they are only on one page... If someone doesn't mind spending the extra money, that may be an option for people who only want one page with problems on them instead of a few... The Gold Series doesn't have any explanations, so it is not a stand alone...
  2. I would like to start participating in the weekly reports...Mine is up...We are not schooling now, but it has plans for January...
  3. Did you get the CD's or downloads of the stories being read?...I am debating this, but wondering if others found it useful... Also, did you get the downloads or the CD's? I just got my MOH vol 1 today!
  4. :iagree: I would try MM before buying something else...We like it here so far
  5. I am wondering if you looked it over yet and what you think of it if you did?
  6. I am also printing out Math Mammoth today!...Glad your printer is fixed...I hate when I can't print because of a problem or no ink, or whatever :)
  7. My father gave me a VCR tape rewinder shaped like a red sports car when I turned 16...I didn't even have my own TV, let alone a VCR!
  8. I'm sure I have posted this somewhere, so sorry if you keep reading it ;) We are also starting in January...This is what we are using... Keanu (10 - 9/4/00) 5th Grade - Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, Rod & Staff Remedial English then level 5, Writing With Ease Level 0ne and Two, Math Mammoth Blue, then Light Blue 4A & B, Mystery of History Volume 1, Elemental Science Biology, Prima Latina, Logic Countdown, Calvary Chapel Bible Study, Homeschool PE Mekai (6 - 9/9/04) 1st Grade - Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, Rod & Staff Grammar Level 1, Writing With Ease Level 1, Math Mammoth 1A & B, Mystery of History Volume 1 (mainly listening in), Elemental Science Biology, Calvary Chapel Bible Study, Homeschool PE Noali (4 - 7/3/06) - Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading, Rod & Staff Preschool, Calvary Chapel Bible Study, Homeschool PE I think that is everything...I hope I have everything covered!
  9. I am going to use Mystery of History...I am still waiting for it in the mail though, so I am not sure how it is yet... I didn't want to get something that required a lot of other resources...Not at this point anyway...
  10. I never thought about that...I live in NJ, and there is no one to report to here...
  11. I can't give expert advice, but I can share what our plan is...We haven't done it yet, but this is what I am planning... School starting in January, 4 days a week...We plan to school about 45 weeks with seven weeks off (my husband's vacations which are one week in May, one week in July, and one week in September) and the 4 weeks in December... I will see how it goes...If I see that we need more time off, I will adjust our schedule since 45 weeks is a long school year anyway...
  12. I just smile and don't really say anything...Most people are just commenting and don't really want to hear anything more... If one of my friends seriously asks me, then I will discuss it with them by asking them why they feel like they couldn't...Then we start from there based on their answers...
  13. I was wondering if this would happen...It seems to me that most people (not all) who are able to school for 4 days a week and have summers and December off have young children, in grades 1-3... My oldest son is going to the fifth in January, and he is behind...We are going to do four days because I don't think we can do five right now...But we will plan to go through the summer... The boys want to ice skate on Fridays...We bought them skates for Christmas, so we will plan to go skating on Fridays and park days on Fridays during the warmer months...I will also go food shopping on Fridays and run small errands... So it looks like we will have a four day week and a longer school year... I can't wait to get all of my curriculum so I can really start planning...Mail during the holidays take so long!
  14. What is this?.... Also, you only actually do lessons for 4 days then right?...The fifth day you use for activities?
  15. I am back again with another question ;) Do you school 4 or 5 days a week?...Almost all of the curriculum I bought has 180 lessons to complete it...I really want to complete what I bought, and I figured that 180 lessons done 5 days a week would take 36 weeks, but done 4 days a week would take 45 weeks...That would give us vacation during December and 3 other weeks during the year...My husband has vacation 3 weeks during the year, so we would take off those weeks... Just wondering what others do...I never thought about having a school year without summer vactaion...But maybe it would be better to do the 4 days... Any advice?...We are new to this and I am still figuring things out...
  16. Just wanted to say thanks for this info...I ordered Logic Countdown and got the free shipping from Rainbow Resources...My son is starting fifth in January...
  17. Hi "Hen Jen"... I prefer the Stockmar paints, only because those are the ones used at school so I never thought to get anything else...The PPS ones may be good, but most I know choose the Stockmar... "Heaven on Earth" by Sharifa Oppenheimer is the best book I have read on Waldorf style rhythm at home...It has a lot of early childhood information, but the rhythm info is good for any age...There are also sections on discipline and general home life, Waldorf style... I was never able to bake bread with the boys...It was something I wanted to do, but couldn't manage it because I have never baked bread...I had a friend who did it (she use to work in a bakery and was use to baking bread without a machine), and she enjoyed it...This is something I would like to do though... Another element of Waldorf that we love here is beeswax modelling...They sell beeswax at Paper Scissors Stone and it is a nice activity...There is a book called "Learning About the World Through Modeling" by Arthur Pittis? (I believe that is his name) that does a great job of explaining it... Hope this helps...
  18. This is making me think that i should order level 4 and not 5...My son is only 10 and starting fifth in January...He is doing remedial work now, but it seems that others are doing level 5 with 11 year olds...
  19. Welcome :001_smile: Congratulations on your new baby, I also have three kids (all boys)... "See" you around!
