  1. Same here. I don't really have the time to search for threads I participated in. I really, really miss the email notifications.
  2. Welcome to the party!! It's NEVER too late to talk about Johnny Depp. We have seen the trailer - it's awesome!!!!
  3. Oh Cecilia, this would be wonderful. Thank you so much for offering this! I'm doing the happy dance.
  4. A Little Garden Flower. Here is the link to it: http://www.waldorfjourney.typepad.com/ I have used some of her material in the past and really enjoyed it. :001_smile:
  5. OMG - I'm speechless. I'd like to say more - but I'm afraid I might be banned. So, I just go into my closet and scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I AGREE wholeheartedly with you. Sean Connery is my FAVORITE as well :drool5: . I haven't posted a lot in the past - BUT I just couldn't resist the kilt topic. It's more addicting than chocolate chip cookies! :D Best of all - I can enjoy it over and over without any guilt "feeling."
  7. I'd never assume that Non-Christian means non-believer. However, personally, I do never answer the question what religion I belong to or whether or not I am Christian -just as I never answer the question what political party I favor. I keep my mom's advice and never discuss religion and/or politics with others. I do ask people whether or not my answer will make a difference in their perception of me. And then I quote my grandpa who used to say: "I believe that 2 pounds of meat make a great stew.". I know this answer will ruffle some feathers and I know that a lot of people will not agree with this answer. BUT it does (at times) make people chuckle and they come to realize what I mean. Hopefully, no one will throw tomatoes at me after this response (even though I do love them:D)
  8. I feel for you, 'cause my husband who is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish did not teach our son (11) any of these languages. Now, he realized he did make a mistake and would LOVE to teach our son at least Russian - but ds has NO desire to learn Russian at this time. No help here - but I can understand how you are feeling.
  9. Joanne, I applaud you for speaking up so openly. I know there are others who feel just like you. You are NOT alone.
  10. Thank you everyone for your posts. I was thinking about using OM 5 (bought this last year used) - but after reading all the encouraging posts about this program - I don't know anymore. I might just buy the CDs - we have a lot of the books in our hs library. I just wished I could see this one in person. It's so hard. My ds is only 10 - so, this could work beautifully for us agewise. At first, I thought he might get bored doing one topic for a prolonged period of time, but we are doing the time travelers CDs right now - and he is having a BLAST (we started 2 weeks ago). So, why am I having such a hard time deciding on a curriculum this year??? Michelle, thank you so much for your post. I'm so glad to hear that it can be used for secular homeschoolers. It seems, more and more people are using this curriculum and talking about Trail Guide to Learning. It's encouraging to see. I guess, I should just go with my intuition on this one and stop worrying so much. My ds LOVES history, geography and nature studies. We can always add in books, discussions, etc. to dig deeper, make it more challenging.
  11. After contemplating for weeks about whether or not we should use this program for 5th Grade, I decided to go with a different program. We will be using OM. Trail Guide to Learning seems to be a wonderful program BUT I need to make sure it's a program my ds would enjoy. This program seems to move too slowly for my son and at this point, I just can't afford to make a curriculum mistake (dh is unemployed since August of last year). So, I'll just use some of their book recommendations along with the time travelers CDs to give OM a little bit "pizazz."
  12. Nan, I'm glad I could help :001_smile:I was really, I mean, really lucky. Someone on Ebay sold the complete K12 Literature Set including the Teacher Guides for less than $15.00 (w/shipping). I wanted to try K12 literature for a long time - but could NEVER afford it - until NOW. Honestly, I am really impressed with their literature program. I LOVE the Teacher Guides. They provide all the answers, thought provoking questions, web pages for further digging into the subjects, etc. And, they provide just the right amount of hand-holding for this mom to make the program work. Can you tell I am excited? :D I wish we could start OM next week. But we need to finish 4th Grade first. The 5th Grade K12 literature program just seems to be the perfect match for us to make OM 5 even more exciting and interesting. Sonja Living in a Natural World
  13. How about K12? At times, you can buy their material on ebay or other homeschool places. I just picked up the complete K12 literature set for 5th Grade (under $15.00) to use in conjunction with OM 5. The price was too good to pass on - and so far, I really like what I am seeing. It includes books such as Don Quicote, When I was Young in the Mountains, Paddle-to-the Sea, Bard of Avon, American Tall Tales, American Lives and Legends, as well as Classics for Young Readers Volume 5A and 5B. According to the book selection, I think it will be a neat addtion to OM 5. Just a thought! Sonja in CO My Blog
