  2. What a breathtaking picture. The colors are just beautiful. Looking at this picture provides instant peace. Sonja ____________________________________________ Homeschooling "Just One" - ds 9
  3. We are using R.E.A.L. Science (Level 1) as our spine this year. My son loves the way it is set up. We don't do all of the experiments or lab sheets. We add a lot of living books in as well. It is a fun science curriculum for the lower elementary grades. Sonja ____________________________________________________ Homeschooling "JUST ONE" - ds 9
  4. :iagree:I have a college education as well (worked in the medical field for many years before) and more than once I heard this: - how can you waste your money and your potential. I was told to get a life, to help contribute to society, what about women movements, and on and on..... I have had to develop very thick skin as well. 5. We don't celebrate it either. It was my son's decision NOT to celebrate Halloween this year. We have done so in previous years - but will not celebrate Halloween this year. Sonja ____________________________________________ Homeschooling Mom to "JUST ONE" - ds 9
  6. Laurie, I'll keep you and your dh in my prayers. :grouphug: Blessings, Sonja _________________________________________________ Homeschooling "JUST ONE" - ds 9
  7. Hello Donna, I am homeschooling "JUST ONE" - ds 9. He is in 3rd Grade right now. At times, it can be quite challanging to hs just one. But we are LEARNING - this year has been by FAR our best one. Maybe, it's because I have changed our curriculum to a more relaxed form of schooling. It means more work and prep time for Mom, but ds is happy doing school :Dand that's all that counts. Only Math is giving us still some problems - so, I might give MUS a try. Just don't know yet. My son is a visual learner, very artistic, but can be bored easily with too much handy-work as well. I am trying to find the golden balance at this time - but it's hard. Since my son also has mild ADHD we stick to a daily schedule. School starts at a certain time, breaks are scheduled as well as lunch. Just the curriculum itself is flexible - it means, I don't schedule when we do what subjects, how much we do a certain subject, etc. I know what needs to be done in one week or a month and just go from there. Hope this makes sense. :glare: We added GWG 3 (as wee see the need for it), Song School Latin (my son's favorite), as well as PLL (for copywork, picture study) to our curriculum. I am glad to see others on this board who hs "JUST ONE" :D Sonja ________________________________________________________ Homeschooling "JUST ONE" - ds 9
  8. We are doing GWG 3rd this year with my ds 8. We love GWG at our house. This curriculum has been a blessing for all of us. We used R&S for 2nd Grade and my son just didn't care for it. :tongue_smilie:This year, we switched to GWG and it finally "klicks." Diagramming is intruduced in 3rd Grade (Chapter 1)!!!! My son needs to diagram Simple Subjecs and Predicates, Compound Subjects, Compound Predicates, Subjects and Predicates in Questions, Subjects and Predicates in Commands. In Chapter 3 kids will need to diagram Direct Objects, in Chapter 4 Adjectives Quite a bit of diagramming for 3rd Grade - but that's just my humble opinion. 11. We are using Growing with Grammar 3 and Grammar Land. Both have been a great hit at our house. My ds 8 loves Grammar - can it get better than this? :D Sonja __________________________________________________ Homeschooling an "one and only" - ds 8

  14. I would really freak out. I just can't stand anything crawling - and guess - hubby wouldn't be a great help either. He's even more paranoid when it comes to insects, arachnoids, amphibians, etc ....... you get the hint..... than I am. Ds 8 has more "stamina". I guess, it runs in the family. :glare: I am just so grateful we haven't encountered one of the black widows yet. 18. I would recommend Saxon or R&S. My son struggles with Math as well - it's one of those subjects :tongue_smilie:. Last year I tried a mix between Saxon and R&S and it was a huge hit. He FINALLY is getting his facts. He is in 3rd Grade know and we still continue to use both programs. I just alternate between these two on specific days. Let's say Mon-Wen-Fri we use Saxon, Tues and Thur we use R&S. So, maybe you want to look into both. :glare: Sonja
  19. Thanks to Song School Latin, Latin has become my son's favorite subject. He loves this program so much that we do Latin every day!!!:D I just wish the rest of our hs program would be such a success. :001_huh: Sonja __________________________ Mom to ds 8
  20. Thanks for sharing this site. It looks wonderful. Sonja _________________________________ Mom to a wonderful Ds (8)
  21. Aaawww.... how nice to find a soul mate. It's not my first year homeschooling - but I did exactly the same this year. I thought that my son needed more hands-on experience in science (so we added TWO, nut just one - TWO science programs), I changed our math curriculum but still keep the other one on hand - just in case :001_huh:, I added a different grammar program, switched the spelling program -and now, what do I have? A major headache trying to combine all things........ At least one good thing came out of this.....I finally figured out my son's learning style. :tongue_smilie: Sonja __________________ Homeschooling a one and only ds (8)
  22. I have used MFW for 1st Grade, 2nd Grade (Adventures), and now I am using MFW EEC for 3rd Grade. So far, I haven't noticed any typos in either one of their TE's. I am very happy with MFW so far, and my son it having a blast. :D Sonja ________________________ HS a one and only ds (8)
