Hi, I know there are some folks here from New Orleans. My family and I are going to NOLA for Christmas. There are going to be 10 of us there and we'd like to get some photos taken. We are looking for a portrait studio or a inexpensive photographer who is in or within walking distance of the French Quarter. Our hotels are in the French Quarter and only one family has a car. Does anyone know of a studio or photographer? Thanks SO much! I have looked and looked online and called a number of places, without much luck.

Wanting Ideas for Book List
alamama replied to alamama's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Honestly, they aren't much into reading too much. This will be for when we read together. I will have to look up your suggestions. Now that is a list! Will have to go through the list. Thanks. -

Yay! Looks like cafe du monde is a must. I have had 5 people recommend it already. Thanks everyone for the info. I kind of want to get some ideas as SIL always plans for everyone, usually without talking to us first. Oh, our kids will be 16 & 14. Cousins about the same age. Keep the ideas coming. :bigear: Also, would LOVE to ride a steam/river boat, tell me which ones are good.

Ladies, thanks! Jabberwocky...I like the idea of a clock nearby. May have to hang one up. He isn't slow with much of anything else, just school work. I will try the praise with him. Parrothead...thanks. Will try that too. -
Our son (13) is a slow worker. I have tried different things I thought would help him move along faster on his work. Do any of you have any suggestions? The new school year is just around the corner.

Can't stop crying -- Marine OCS related too
alamama replied to Nestof3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My hubby is a former Marine. Like everyone has already mentioned, life in the USMC isn't a piece of cake. That being said if our son were to join any branch of military I would hope it would be the Marines. I would feel like he was safer and better trained. I was sure glad when hubby got out though. :grouphug: -

Can we talk about bloody noses?
alamama replied to Jennifer in MI's topic in General Education Discussion Board
DD has been getting them too. It's very dry here so doc told us a humidufier, vaseline in the nose will help. Last year she had them so bad it bleed (BAD) for three hours straight, the seperate days. It freaked me out, I called the ER twice. They kept telling me it's ok and what to do. -

I might add that for the most part you will be under ground where it is cool. So summer isn't all that bad.
-
Hmmm...something to think about.
-
We live in NM. I believe there's a White's City that is close. I am not too familar with lodging as we using drive there from where we live. The summer is hot and crowded. But I would try to go when the bats are there. Totally worth it! If your kids are older (10+) and you guys are in decent shape I would take the natural enterance in stead of the elevator. They also have tours. Good luck to you. No matter what you'll find it interesting!

Thanks for the encouragement ksva. Loved the "shut up and do it" part!

I hope this makes sense, and please excuse all of the grammar mistakes. I am writing this in the midst of frustration. I need your help. DD is 15, just finishing up 9th grade. I have only been hsing her since 7th. She is bright and always got A's in ps. However, once she closed the book the information she learned would be gone. One of my goals in hsing her was to teach her to learn. So, with all of that said, the stumbling block we are having is her mindset of "I won't ever use this.", "Why do I need to learn this?", and so on. So if something is hard for her she automatically thinks those thoughts. While I agree with her on some of her points, that mindset is really making it hard for her to learn and for me to teach. I am honestly struggling with the thought of "Can I really teach high schoolers?" Another note: she finished her 9th grade grammar and is starting her 10th grade grammar. We switched from Wordly Wise to BJU. I know that BJU is more challenging and that is part of the problem, but her mindset goes for all subjects. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions as to how to help her to change her mindset? Thanks for any and all of your help.
